Why brought a spoil and old model unit. Cause cheaper? hmm.gif

Didn't know is spoil till went home tested and fail.
DS109j is cheaper, but rarely available.
Nvm, upgraded to DS110j and using it happily smile.gif

DS109j rarely available cause no more pruduction liau and replace by DS110j. Even I brought the DS409+ is going stop too. I quickly grab 1 cause I get it very cheap and new 1 sure price not cheap. Beside this model can mod the ram.

FTP no problem at all. I always use FTP to transfer file. Best to instal a FTP program.

Lately I found out that I can transfer and view my file using PDA. Last time cannot.

Just normal download in Synology's Download Station.
You can do a lot in it. You can schedule when to download when not.

It will download tasks by tasks depeding on your setting on how much jobs running on the same time.

Anyone use custom build NAS around here?

My 500Gb HD suddenly can't be detected (already send for warranty and hopefully only firmware problem) and probably I will lost all the data. So to avoid any traumatic experiences in the future, I planning to get more than 1 hd and raid them. But I see that 2 bays NAS is expensive and lack of expandability.

I have one unused DQ45CB mobo, 2 x 2Gb ddr2 ram and casing so I think will be better if I build custom NAS from these unused items than buying a proper NAS. I know custom NAS consume more power so what is the best processor suit for this build?

Added on March 5, 2010, 11:43 pmOr the new Atom is the better? But it only support 2 sata.

Custom NAS should be ok if you are not running 7/11. Otherwise consume power alot. Use a low voltage and low speed proccesor.

You can buy a raid card to slot to expand your raid HDD. I ve a raid card which can raid 4pcs HDD. Using it 9yrs already and still good now.

What the expected price for the raid card. If like that, probably will opt to atom setup which use minimal power.
