Guttentag from Frankfurt!
Guys, from the information presented here by Psyeo, if you ask me, I would think that the state of the NZ iPhone 3G is still "unlocked".
Further confirmations would come from:-
1 - Goldieboy's iPhone coming this Sunday. We shall know if that staff is blowing smoke up to deter non-contract purchases, or if it is unlocked in any form. I see this more as a scare tactics by those staff to keep their stocks up and deter non-contract purchases.
2 - Confirmation from Cocklea himself. From what I hear, stocks is depleted at his store, so he is anticipating new stock. From Geekzone forum, new stock is expected to arrive on the 5th next month, so we may not know until then.
Further investigation from this
link, after checking the Parts number on the rightmost column on that table, points towards the same model parts number on both mine and Psyeo. And if I read this article correctly, Apple is implying that iPhone 3G with those part numbers would "require Carrier unlocks". This contradicts the very nature of my iPhone and Psyeo's, since ours are unlocked without the need of any Vodafone intervention.
Again, all this are educated guesses. Confirmations will only come this Sunday (from Goldieboy) and on the 5th when Cocklea gets his new stock. Until then, I leave it up to you to intepret this.
To the failed "Tumpang" guys, please be informed. Decision is still up to you, I will not be held responsible if situation dictates otherwise.
