the calculation u do most spending is on accomodation...the accomodation u get it like 1 whole aprtment for yourself..thats y so expensive..for students dun need the whole apartment just 1 room enuff..is it possible to rent just 1 room and how much will it cost? and for the food lets say according to your 1000 yen per meal, is it a good meal?? can full? japanese ppl small size only they eat a bit full.... later 1000yen can  get 2 piece of sushi only fat ppl need to spend a lot only can full hehe
*
Bottom-line : accommodation is expensive in Tokyo. I don't know how much Firedauz is paying since he's also staying in Tokyo, but I pay around 68,000 JPY for a 1K (1 room + 1 kitchen (separate) and 1 bathroom (separate). The accommodations here are pretty different in the sense that you can hardly find room for rents like back in Malaysia where you got 1 house and like 3 rooms rent to diff people with common living room+kitchen etc... There are specific 'mansion' (apartments) that are catered for single person and they'll usually be the cheapest form of accommodation here.

As for food; frankly YMMV depending on what you tend to eat and how much. 1000 yen can generally get you a very decent meal in a normal Japanese restaurant so that's definitely filling. If your budget is 1000 yen/day for food - then you'll probably be looking at cooking your own meals (at least once) cause I don't think 1000 yen can buy you 2 meals unless you really plan on eating soba noodles / McD burgers (no sets) daily. tongue.gif

i dont think okinawa is that cheap. and i dont think tokyo is that expensive. the major difference is rent.rent can get even cheap if u stay in kanagawa. i would think transportation in tokyo is cheaper (dont use JR, the KEIO lines are freaking cheap,subways too) groceries, sometimes rural areas might be more expensive due to lower volumes. students adapt, students hardly have any financial commitments making them more flexible. and i think there's more Malaysians in tokyo than okinawa tongue.gif

@f4t3

no bathroom means there should be a shared one, just not private. might not include shower though. for student accomodation, there's always house sharing, student houses and so on.

Okinawa is CHEAPER than Tokyo, btw you ve been to Okinawa before is it?
Tokyo is more expensive than Okinawa...
my brother in laws studying in Okinawa more than 4 years already there...so he knows more than me...and he has been in Tokyo than of course he make the comparison then...some more he is using Toyota Estima for commuting in Okinawa (i'm not telling he is rich but, in Okinawa is cheaper than Tokyo)
Unless Cleemong you've been living in Okinawa and Tokyo before...Kanagawa also got expensive rent by the way..Kyushu is cheaper then. icon_rolleyes.gif Students also depends on their lifestyle, like my frenz. He is scholar from Monbusho...he afford for everything already for what he compulsory need for living in Japan..but then his lifestyle make him have to works for part time... thumbup.gif
FYI, I already survey and do researched with most of FUDOSAN in Tokyo...so I quit confident bout the rental in Tokyo compare some other place out of Tokyo...

hi, wanna ask sumthing about visa application ,

ok, i got relative in thailand that married to japanese people, currently she is staying at osaka with his husband and daughter , so last time i go thailand her mother said to me if i want to go to jp got 40,000Baht enuf edi (Rm4000) maybe coz when they applying visa at jp embassy at bangkok easier i guess...
And when i come back check visa application process at msia so mafan..

So my question is should i get Visiting relatives or friends visa or Holiday or Stopover / transit visa?

but if i get visiting relatives visa so mafan for me. coz i need to get the copy of geran rumah from them since my mom name is on the house, and that the only thing can clarify the relationships between me n the jp guy.And if he willing to be the bearer(on the visa application only) then nice lor coz i dont need to bring so many RM since i'm staying in his house..

1 more question can i apply visa at jp embassy at bangkok? and usually how long will it take?
