1) is it true that only 3G phone will be able to roam in Japan and older model with GSM cannot roam?

yes, if im not mistaken u must be using a 3g phone to roam here. i dont think there's a gsm network here.

2) are the phones in Japan cheaper than Malaysia? is it advisable to get one there?
