But I make sure she's clean first lo. At first she'll be reluctant, but you can try to give her some meal worms to let her relax. |

Electroyid: Been keeping for about 3 weeks only. So I still consider newbie also. Haha. They do not keep food in their mouth like hamster. Hamster doing that is a cute sight.
Hiyuki: Aggressive after eating mealworms. Don't think so le. They'll usually looked forward to you for mealworms. Mine roughly knows when she'll be getting it. So she'll wait for it at the food dish. or look up at me when I'm preparing it. Most probably, like Omisa said, is the scent of mealworms. Maybe Echy is excited? They are not aggressive animals but shy animals. They will bite *put any unfamiliar things in their mouth* (observed this with a medicine spoon, clothes, towel and even my finger). Their bite wasn't intended as defence nor attack, just curiousity. So don't worry, doesn't hurt. They'll usually lick your fingers first, then a bite might be on the way. |

Mites ar... This I never encountered before le. You need to wait for more professional advice in this matter. But this usually occurs when the habitat is dirty. So shouldn't be a problem if the habitat is kept clean.
My guess is:- 1st clean the habitat, change bedding, disinfect objects in habitat 2nd give the hedgie a thorough bath 3rd if both above doesn't helps, seek medication help This post has been edited by empty_reg: Sep 17 2008, 06:02 PM |

Found some info, it might helps:
"If your hedgehog is not in one of these typical stages of quilling, or has bald or thinning areas, then you are most likely dealing with a medical issue. The most common is an outbreak of mites, a small parasite that can live on the skin of the hedgehog and cause flaking skin, itching, and quill loss. This usually causes symptoms on the entire body. You can check your hedgehog at home for mites by holding your hedgehog over a peice of black paper and ruffle the quills. When you get some skin flakes dropping off onto the paper, turn on a bright light and get a magnifying glass. If any of the flakes are small white moving bugs, your hedgehog has mites and needs to see a vet. Mites should NOT be treated with over the counter treatments. Some of these can make your hedgehog very ill." http://www.hedgehogworld.com/content/view/105/40/ |

teddie, put him into a small box or u can use shoes' box. Put some bedding for him inside there. And make sure the box u put him in cant let him see outside then he's be find. To make it more understanding, use shoe's box and close the top of the box

Dats y it is best to purchase a mite free hedgie from the start to avoid all stress related probles of mites..My guess is:- 1st clean the habitat, change bedding, disinfect objects in habitat 2nd give the hedgie a thorough bath 3rd if both above doesn't helps, seek medication help empty_reg got the answer, i also wanna add [from what i learn from seniors], after the hedgie has their bath, spray Frontline to the quills/infected area, a spray to kill mites of coz, then leave for a minute or so, then rinse thoroughly with water.. Dry the hedgie.. Do twice a week and see the progress.. |

No idea how to train them not to charge at mealies and biting. Your hedgie is bitey? They don't usually bite unless mistaken for food, atleast I dont think this is their nature to bite as defence.. Don't think is offence either.. Maybe try give him more time, spent more time bonding with him lo. By the way, does the bite hurts?
My friend got one male hedgie today. Condition healthy, very tame, handling was very easy. Bathe him but still smell of urine. *sigh. He doesn't like mealworms, but loves RC kibbles. Personality gua I guess, or was it that he never-ever tried mealworms before? lolx |

Hiyuki : dun forgot... ur echty 'might' be from wild caught so the terms tame u need to take ur time to take him. Most of our pokimon not really bitey... mine never bite me before but I do know some others are mistakenly bite their owners hand as a food. Me, my self sometimes I handfeed him the mealies and yes he's so aggressive when I fed him mealies. But i do handfeed him with kibbles and he never bite me also
empty_reg : have u ever try give mealies for him? cuz mine last time he dun wan to eat at all but when i try feeding him again he likes |

Muchan86: Ya I did tried to feed him mealies. Put infront of him, give it to him, scope and place infront of him. But he have no interested at all. Just run around the place. Then I give them kibbles. he ate considerably more than mine and drink some water. I think the petshop owner might not have time to feed them mealies. Haha. Cause he bite everything, like spoon, chopstick, wheel and my finger. But never bite the mealies. haha. Weird fello.

^It means ur fella has never touch mealies before
nevermind... slowly and take ur time. Mine also like that... try not give him the same amount of kibbles u usually gave... let him try the mealies.. or u try to to cut the mealies into 2 part, half half see if he dare to eat or not |
