hi. what is the life expectancy of a hedgehog and how often do the females get fertile in one year?
*
Life expectancy according to some website said 5 years, possibly more. Females I believe can get fertile 3 times a year. Possibly 4, but the hoglets won't be healthy and you'll also kill the female in the process.

Why do you want to breed them? You cannot house them together for too long. How old are them? If you seriously want to breed them. You need to separate them. Try 1 - 2 months or longer, then put them together. Usually if you wake up around the wee hours you might be able to see the male 'harassing' the female (can be quite noisy). Keep them there for 2 weeks (as recommended by some breeders) then separate them again. Wait for 1 month plus to see kena or not lo. Before you breed them, you should also be prepared with a proper house for the female and the babies, don't be like me caught off guard, lucky my female friendly and don't stress easily or else bye bye to the babies. A very sad sight.

Mine 2 days kena already, not even 48 hours. zzz, now I have lots of trouble taking care of the bunch of hoglets. Hope you consider properly. 2 female reserved, 2 more males to go.

Usually the hide out place for nursing mum will need to be bigger to accomodate the babies as well, if you can help it, you can get the one with a base at the bottom with an inch high curb (so babies won't wander all over the place). If you can't get one with curb, you can put in tissue papers, the mum will collect it to make a barrier.

Already one year ago? Erm, if assuming you bought the hedgehogs at 2 months old, they are atleast 14 months now. The suitable age to start breeding hedgehogs are at age 6 months to 12 months < as what people say.

Try separating them now for a duration then put them back together. But I'm not sure a year plus virgin hedgehog can still breed ot not. I myself am not familiar with the outcome of the 6 - 12 months start breeding period statement.

@zoeyhanz : Hrm, hedgehogs aren't good jumpers, they are fat and clumsy. Haha. Atleast they're to me. the cage should be atleast 1.5 ft - 2 ft height (just incase they step on their hideout box and climb out). weight and length the bigger the better. Just make a box should be okay already.

The colour is people to people preference de. Albino, all white white kind of no colour to me ma. Hehe

It will breed after age 1 year old. But people say a good time to start breeding is from 6 - 12 months. Any younger will cause female uterus to spoil or something. Too old only breed don't know why can't. Wait other experts or breeders clarify lo.

As a note, breeding is not easy as they need a stress free environment while nursing the hoglets. Cannibalism rates for hedgies are quite high.

Mable the hedgie for adoption. She's grown on me as she's very healthy and quite chubby, but no choice. Aihhh...

Wherever whenever wha.tever u do with hedgie = please keep an eye on him/her.

They r noctorious little fella, so keep double extra effort to make sure they r still safe.

They r so cute that i dont want to risk them with the walk on the grass, unless i know the grass is safe from pesticide, dogs/cats pee poo, n sorts.

Please take note ya. It's FUN but not HEALTHY for them.

Yup, but its quite fun. plus the attention from the kids at the park watching a durian run a round..
But today not much people, juz kids playing, so plenty of room to run & run hehe...

Depends on what you decide to feed it, house it on and in. Not very high maintenance, easier than a glider. smile.gif

Mable is defensive but can be handled. Tame in a sense she doesn't bite.
