How much depends on your source lo. Now garagesales got people selling. You can go there to check. Buying from petshops will cost more and is not really recommended.

Maintaining is easy, it requires little attention but if you don't like a pet that hides itself throughout the day, then this is not for you.
Setup cost below RM 200
Monthly expenses on food around RM 20 - 30 depending on quality of it

If you're up to it, maybe you can adopt Reanne's if you don't felt like buying.

Depends on what you decide to feed it, house it on and in. Not very high maintenance, easier than a glider. smile.gif

Mable is defensive but can be handled. Tame in a sense she doesn't bite.

House depends on your liking. I'm keepig mine in a Toyogo Box (< RM 50). Some people buy ZooZone 1 / 2 (RM 50 - 150)

If you can afford a bigger place, then you can just fence up a corner in your house and keep it there. Generally the bigger the place the better.

Good luck in your research =)

like what empty_reg said, most owners keep their hedgehogs in either toyogo boxes or zoozones, just make sure it has enough room for them to move around. just make sure it's not the wired-cages like those you keep sugar-gliders etc. hedgehogs are pretty clumsy pets, they climb around but aren't very good climbers, and there are high chances that they can get their fragile legs stuck in between the wires.

You can buy a wheel for it. Then it'll more likely to be running on the wheel than prison break. hehe

younger hedgehogs (less than 6 months old) tend to eat a little bit more than adults. when i first got mine it takes about one and a half spoons of RC, but the older it gets, the lesser it eats. now it takes only about a spoon, and sometimes can't even finish the spoonful, but is still a bit obese despite running in the wheel every night.

just monitor your hedgehog's intake of food for about a week or two, you'll roughly get an estimate of how much your hedgehog eats in a day. start with one spoonful, if the next morning you see the bowl is empty, add a little bit more on the next day, and so on. but i'd advise not to put more than 2 spoons of RC per day. RC catfood has the most similar diet needed for hedgehogs but in actual the percentage of fat is still too high for them.

i started off feeding RC34 kitten before changing to RC32 fit which has lower percentage of fat, but my hedgehog is a little bit picky and won't eat, so now i have no choice but to revert back to RC34 and monitor its intake.

How many spoons are you feeding your hedgehog? If it's eating none stop and yet *thin (not tiny), then maybe you can bring it to the vet to check. Thin in sense till can see backbone shape. You can consult a vet for supplements too.

If it's just tiny, then you can adjust the hedgehog's food intake according to livingmonolith's method. =)

Is no surprise the hedgehog you get is tiny, cause you just got it recently ma. Hehe, so don't worry so much.

Usually they'll drink the water. But is still better to use a water bottle if you can help it. So less wastage on bedding if he turn the water dish upside down.

@vincent09 : I thought about it too, and ask other previous keepers, they say hedgehogs no need to give extra calcium like gliders. But mealworms should be fed sparingly. Mine doesn't take mealworms now, I give her sausage, chicken and hard boil eggs whenever I come across some.

In that case, remove the wheel if u have one. Scared he will injured his legs more if not strong enuf.

Start feeding some mealworms that has been gutloaded. Gutload with foods that r high in calcium like choy sum, rolled oat, wheat germ, so on.

I'll try Dr Jenny on weekends. Shots, I'm not sure, you can consult her. = )

Sausage, oily, yes even after boiling. but still as long as feed abit is alright I think. Cause I only come across sausage like less than once a month. Most often I give hard boiled eggs, hehe.

@Vincent09: I'm not really sure as I never come across such problems (leg shaking). How long has it been going on? If problem presist for quite some time, maybe you should check the vet or see if any other forumers here can help you. Hope it's nothing.

@zoeyhanz: erm, if can help it, don't disturb it, like harrass it, using things to poke it, it scare of people later on. Handle it with care by *gently picking it up and playing with it is alright. Never try picking it up with cloth (unless necessary) or by pulling it's quills.
