Lol, a normal 4870 is already madness in performance and temperatures. How the heck are they doing 4870 x2? That deserves 2 months smile.gif .

the power delivery system is quite impressive on 4870x1. the 2nd generation plx chip should be generation, hopefully this would remove the pci-e bottleneck effect on 3870x2,

btw what cooler would amd provide this time.

Pre-announce price is $499, may change depends on market/DAAMIT itself

Anyway, to discuss of future product might be a little odd. Anyway, we can expect from current performing 4850 CF to measure 4870X2. Bear in mind that 4870 is about 1.3 times the 4850.
*
4850CF to measure 4870x2?
or you mean 4870 CF?

Highest end card is always more popular for those extremist who is less price sensitive but extremely demand for performance of their GC.

2900XT is quite expensive but when compare to 8800GTS it is still cheaper though, but now AMD/ATI is aiming at mid range market, rest assure there would be a lot of affordable and powerful graphic card available to more end user........

Radeon i think slayer meant 4850CF, both have different memory architecture, in this case 4870X2 have some serious advantage here when compare to 4850 even in crossfire mode.

Earlier than expected?
The ATI Radeon HD4870 X2 codenamed R700 is slated for a week 4, July release. This dual-GPU card which features two of the RV770 graphics processors which have been an overnight success for AMD/ATI in their single-GPU avatars, the HD4850 and HD4870, will be priced at US $499. AMD will be in a position to supply samples for internal testing and quality evaluation by 15th of July and July 24th is slated for completion of testing following which, the product could start shipping. Partners will receive chip samples for non-reference designs. Volume shipments of the chips could commence sometime in August.

LMAO laugh.gif if ATI still remain alone, i think the 4900XT (4870 in AMD terms) card today would be priced at 1.8k instead of 900 bucks we have today laugh.gif
