Guys, I am having a problem with reading SMS. I currently choose to save all my messages in memory card. This morning I received an SMS from Maxis and all of the sudden all my previous sms-es cannot be opened, not even new ones. I was wondering if there's a solution for this.

Anyone has this problem before?

Yup, did everything I can think of like restarting phone, removing battery, removing sim card and memory card. I even re-set the date and region. But I am still facing this problem. This problem occurs even before the firmware upgrade.

What do you mean you cannot open the sms?
If you saved all the sms to your memory card then maybe your memory card is defected?
try changing it to Phone memory

The thing is I am able to read and write from the memory card. I have reformatted it and restore all the files. Problem is still the same. I am even able to execute programs from the memory card. Doesn't seem like a memory card problem. Sounds like phone software problem pertaining to memory card handling. Changing storage preference to phone memory solves the problem. But I am still unable to open/access my sms in the memory card.

Added on November 21, 2008, 12:23 amMy battery seems not long lasting at all. Using E71 for one whole day, for calls (24_avg_2mins) and smses (16) only. No web, GPS, yada yada. From 9am till midnight, it drops to 2 bars. If there is any similar user out there, please do tell me it is normal. Thank you!

24 calls and each call 2 minutes? And it drops to 2 bar from fully charged? Better get it checked then.

Standard battery cycle should be charged at least 3 times.. after that you should be able to enjoy a more longer battery life..

hey.. try out Fring. Combine all your skype, MSN, Yahoo, Google chat, all under one nice looking client. I tried the call function too and it works great!!!

Check it out...

Thanks buddy. I have fring installed. Too bad I cant try it yet because my data plan is only up to 20MB and 4000 minutes of Skype. 3 Mobile uses iskoot's program for Skype. The program really sucks, it takes ages to connect and gets disconnected often. I have yet to configure it to work with my uni Wi-Fi. I actually dont know how to because my uni wi-fi has strong security.

Worldmate is nice, have you guys tried the Psiloc Remote Presenter that comes with it? I cant seem to get it to connect to my laptop.
Next thing to do is to get a larger memory card.

One question about the GPS feature. There is Nokia Maps preloaded in the phone and if I am right, after the trial period, we will be billed for it right? The software connects to the internet to get data. About Garmin Maps, say if I get the full software on my phone with the full map installed, then it would not be necessary to connect to the internet, right?

Any nice games? The one that comes with it..the graphics suck big time. I am going down to the city today to look for a screen protector and a 2.5mm to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter.

Cheers

Yes, like others have said first few cycles of charging and recharging the battery is not seasoned yet. My ex-N95 behaves the same way until few rounds of these processes and it can withstand average of 3-4 days. Currently my E71 can only lasts 2+ days and I expect it to be better soon (because the 1500mAH battery capacity is bigger than N95's).

Keep your phone updated especially software updates as Nokia will usually introduce power efficiency and network performance in each incremental software release.

Also, the battery indicator bar is not linear. For each step of reduction, it does not require the same amount of usage. For E71's case, the first (topmost) bar drops very quickly. Eventually when you reach the last 2 bars, it'll take a lot longer before you see battery warnings.

Yes, I notice this. The first thing I did when I got my phone was to charge it till the batt was full, the only i popped in my sim card. I kept playing with it as much as I can, installing stuff, listening to music, etc just to drain the batt and trust me its a difficult thing..hahah The only phone I had with better battery life was my old Nokia 1100 and 6030. But that was because those phones were not "smartphones" ler.. Compared to other smartphones, I think the E71 has good battery life.
