anyway, you just have to pass me a 500GB HDD.. but it's lossy codec due to compression, not lossless yet, until we get more of those m2ts ISO blu-ray files..

Maybe you're right about that progressive/NTSC/PAL thingy, never bothered about that. But there are no stretching to the actual movie ratios. Movies are shot widescreen, 2.39:1, 2.35:1, 1.85:1.

Actually I don't understand what you meant about that stretching thing, but anamorphic widescreen is 16x9 ratio (1.78:1) so no strectching is needed, only some black bars depending on the movie's actual ratio.

Ah, let's just forget about, don't bother to explain, I'm not that interested about it anyway. All I know is BD > DVD. tongue.gif

Little something I bookmarked, but never really had time to read:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/anamorphic/index.html

Now let's talk BD!!!
*
anamorpic means stretching... digitally or optically..

when you get normal widescreen DVD, it's letterboxed top and bottom (wasted data encoding black bars)
when you get anamorphic widescreen DVD, the data is encoded so that the people have very narrow faces, but fills up the top and bottom with video data (instead of black bars), then your TV (if widescreen 16:9) or DVD player will do the horizontal stretching for you...

this subject is still relevant in Blu-rays cos 2.35:1 movies have black bars encoded in Blu-rays.. cos they are not anamorpic. hence 2.35:1 scope movies don't actually have 1080p worth of movie, instead something like 800 pixel lines only.. the other 200-300 lines is encoded as black bars.. of coz, 16:9 movies like those animation and TV series, will get 1080p's worth of video.. cos no top and bottom black bars..

Just received my BDs today, the postman came early. Thanks a lot to mpyw for sending my BDs and megatron007 for the successful bulk. notworthy.gif

P/S: Dato' M, you didn't forget my CR007 BD, it was in the box when I opened it. I was surprised to see it there. This time glad to report that there were no casualties, all the BDs received were in excellent condition unlike the previous bulk, the postmen probably played Euro 2008 with the parcel. doh.gif I'll get ready for the next bulk, lately seldom touch my dvd player liao except for the Korean and HK TVB movies. tongue.gif

I know about movies screen ratio and leterboxing and whatnot on BDs lar... tongue.gif I just didn't understand about the stretching thing on DVD. So it's just the same as the anamorphic film stock used on Panavision lenses, while non-anamorphic is like Super35. Never thought pixels can also be stretched like film lenses. All right, thanks.

Again, what's BBA?

well I guess the term will mean different type of implementation for different things, say movie cameras (don't know much about this) and dvd video encoding.. or even anamorpic optical Lens used for a 16:9 projector to view fill 2.35:1 screen in a CIH (constant image height) setup.. like one of our elite bro's house here..
