Thinking of upgrading my Infocus 4805 and was wondering if I should go for HD65 or just skip ahead to a 1080 projector because the price gap is so wide.

Is there a lot of difference between 480, 720 and 1080 projector when viewing DVD on an upscaling player like Sony?
*
there will be improvement, but i think you're probably gonna miss that 4805's awesome Faroudja Dcdi processing capability a bit...used to have a 4805 and to me, back then that processor made most dvds to look and feel a bit more 'natural', with good contrast, depth and all...but since 720p is the way to the future, i got an hd65. Quite happy with it if i use it with an upscaling player...so yeah, no regrets.

my take: try to demo a good 720p player whenever possible. If u can, try to compare side by side with your 4805 for the colours, natural feel, skintone, contrast, etc with your own familiar dvd materials - interlaced, progressive or upscale - and let your eyes be the judge...

I like to enjoy the feelings of getting an upgrade from time to time. So i think it's a good thing to start at 720p. It's like the first time u saw the difference between conventioanl TV and 720p display. You get the 'wow' factor.

So after you get used to 720p and you get to see 1080p, you'll get that 'wow' factor again. But that's me lah, coz no money ma, and some more 720p is much much cheaper than 1080p and yet you can still see pores on the face tongue.gif

Just watched tropic thunder last weekend. Storyline sux but PQ ok lah for 'mkv' file biggrin.gif

I think I will upgrade to 1080p in 2010. No moolah to splurge on it. Have to buy a plasma tv for HM first (since the 43" probably couldn't last til 2010) before proceeding with the upgrade.

Thanks to bro htkaki, and also bro hackwire for the audition last week. notworthy.gif

Currently using normal white wall; no screen yet. tongue.gif At the moment, projected at 70" diagonal screen. drool.gif

Some screenies with default settings (no calibration):

Thanks a lot for buying it from me thumbup.gif .

The temptation and wow effect of big screen is priceless eh tongue.gif Suddenly, you will find your 32" is too tiny to watch laugh.gif

A proper screen will further improve the PQ. Going for DIY fixed screen?
