sharesa,

If you BUY high dividend yield stock, you get PAID every year.  Let's say that your annual dividend yield is 8%.  You MADE 8% every year.  You have return of 8% per year WITHOUT SELLING. Why do you CARE what is the CURRENT stock price?

I BOUGHT PBBank at RM7.  Now, the dividend is RM0.75.  So, my dividend yield is around 10%.  Unless PBBank cut the dividend significantly, why should I care even if the stock drop to RM5 tomorrow?  In fact, I will buy a lot more if the stock went down to RM5.

You make money when you buy.  Not when you sell.

I get what you mean, Dreamer, but that's provided you have no intention selling at all until your golden age. On top of that, the company has to be continually a profit-making company.
I envy that you have PBB @7 tongue.gif , but had I bought around 11.50 level, it would be an unrealised capital loss now.(Price may deteriorate to 7.00 level , never know)

Sometimes, we do not know when we would need to use our money even though supposed to be parked as long-term holdings. If I had to sell PBB now @ 10.30 level, then it's immediate loss. icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh..by the way, you give us some inspiration to keep our good shares in these turbulent times. smile.gif

yes, we need the inspiration to go on, no matter how bad the market is.

But just a bit of curious. Some bought PBB at RM 1.00, RM 7, RM 11.50.

Which is a fair price ? The person bought at RM 1.00 may deem RM 7 as not so good also , let say.

To Cherroy & Sky

attended Resorts AGM. Hundreds attended (3x more than last year)
1) they have no plans to distribute share dividends nor cancel
2) when asked regarding higher cash dividend instead of share buy-backs
(they answer: maintain a 20% dividend policy. Next dividend is already higher than previously, they claim. They have plans for the cash but didn't reveal )
3) when asked about the share buy-backs @ 4+ & 3+ but value now @ 2.80+, Tan Sri seems to admit the value they purchased has gone down.(in otherwords, a loss which not mentioned)

The answers are like a broken record .

The Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay is really a serious & glum man.

Tan Sri would surely go back to ask his financial people for some answers too.

At least, you have awaken him up knowing that resort shareholders of a diff ( respected ) group, unlike those days .

its hard to believe that Rosmah witnessed the event instead of Baginda's wife.

RM0.06 dividend per share.
1000 shares: RM0.06 x 1000 = RM60.00

If it is tax-exempt dividend, u get cheque for RM60.00. End of year, you must declare RM60.00 gross and be taxed accordingly.

If it is single-tier tax exempt dividend, u get cheque for RM60.00. No need declare at end of year (not sure about this, but I know no need to pay taxes).

If it is dividend less 26% tax, u get cheque for Rm44.40. End of year must declare RM60.00 gross dividend and claim back/pay extra tax accordingly.

but the par value is RM 0.2

shouldn't it be calculated differently?

RM0.06 is RM0.06 no matter what the par value.

Unless, what u mean is 6% dividend. Sometimes they do this, instead of say 6sen dividends they say 6% dividend of par value.

In this case yes it is different. But from what you said it is RM0.06 per share so it RM0.06 per share, par value does not matter.

That's why stock market is having the risk, no one will say stock market will definitely make money, just we said invest in strong fundamental stock over the long term, the probability of gaining is higher.

Anything investment except FD is having their risk, no sure gain.

one thing I didn't mention, maybe its trivial to most of you, that I was not so happy with shareholders have to fork out $8 for the parking(1st hour free)@ AGM Crowne Plaza Mutiara (Few people brought that up)
Really a kedekut company like Cherroy mentioned.
According to lim kok thay, we need to pay the $8 because its a revenue for the hotel (?), & quote they pay us good dividends to afford that mad.gif

Wah, really kedekut. Complimentary parking also cannot give. sweat.gif
Resorts can easily pay for it mah to encourage people attend the AGM, only once a year only. I don't think many shareholders attend also, may be few hundreds only, so few hundreds x Rm8, Resorts had no problem of paying it nor others absence shareholders will object also to spend those kind of money.

Shareas,
How many roughly people there?

Thanks for you information then. notworthy.gif

Initially, that was what I thought as well.

However, as I found out later, tax-exempt dividends (not to be confused with single-tier tax-exempt dividends) means that the dividends are being paid from tax-exempt profits of the company, hence the company pay out the full gross amount as net dividends, without charging from the S108 account balance.

From the shareholder point of view, it is still taxable.

Sincere management doesn't afraid shareholders to ask question. Any decision made by company which is looking after the company and shareholders' interest, nobody will reject it one.

By right, listed company wish their shareholders to attend to have better understanding about the company. Not the other way round. Only those poorly managed company doesn't wish their shareholders to come to attend, to question why company making losses etc.
