They should lower the minimum broker fee to attract small retailers back.

QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Jun 20 2008, 05:00 PM) AGM...my impression is, mostly uncles aunties go there, for free door gift, meals, etc. then they seat there, listen listen, some half way doze off edy. and so happen, the phorographer shot it and the only ones asking questions would be ppl from the minority shareholder watchdog group, and this guy from sg lalang, and another guy from kg pasir. |

QUOTE(cherroy @ Jun 20 2008, 05:59 PM) Plus, buybacks mean the management is not concentrating on their business. Companies should not pay attention to their own shares, instead should work on operating efficiencies.Time spent doing buybacks = time not spent to improve company's operations. |

QUOTE(Crossbone @ Jun 23 2008, 11:20 AM) RM0.06 dividend per share.1000 shares: RM0.06 x 1000 = RM60.00 If it is tax-exempt dividend, u get cheque for RM60.00. End of year, you must declare RM60.00 gross and be taxed accordingly. If it is single-tier tax exempt dividend, u get cheque for RM60.00. No need declare at end of year (not sure about this, but I know no need to pay taxes). If it is dividend less 26% tax, u get cheque for Rm44.40. End of year must declare RM60.00 gross dividend and claim back/pay extra tax accordingly. |

QUOTE(Crossbone @ Jun 23 2008, 01:58 PM) RM0.06 is RM0.06 no matter what the par value.Unless, what u mean is 6% dividend. Sometimes they do this, instead of say 6sen dividends they say 6% dividend of par value. In this case yes it is different. But from what you said it is RM0.06 per share so it RM0.06 per share, par value does not matter. |

QUOTE(lklatmy @ Jun 23 2008, 02:15 PM) Initially, that was what I thought as well. However, as I found out later, tax-exempt dividends (not to be confused with single-tier tax-exempt dividends) means that the dividends are being paid from tax-exempt profits of the company, hence the company pay out the full gross amount as net dividends, without charging from the S108 account balance. From the shareholder point of view, it is still taxable. |

QUOTE(lklatmy @ Jun 23 2008, 04:16 PM) I have double checked with my reference material ,which states that tax- exempt profits received by an individual paid out from an exempt account under the Promotion of Investment Act 1986 or under Sch.7A(5)of the Income Tax Act 1967 are exempt from taxes. Really? I guess my source was wrong then. Have to check back and relearn some stuff. Thanks for pointing this out!(source:Malaysian Institute of Accountants,Budget commentary & Tax Information 2008,page178) |

QUOTE(cantdecide @ Jun 27 2008, 11:06 AM) Can anyone help me to complete this list of all IPP (independant power producers) in Malaysia? MMC Corp owns 51% of Malakoff. And Malakoff's contribution is significant in MMC's profits. Might be relevant to you.To my knowledge, I only know of the following: 1. YTLPower 2. Malakoff 3. Genting 4. Tanjong. I am trying to see if all their share price is going downtrend since the fuel hike and the talk of potential IPP renegotiation. Please help. Thank you. |
