finally saw it after so friggin long..
bugger.. i was expecting jack soolley to die throughout. yeah u know who u r, u still suck ayways as some have said, its nothing original. i am with the same tone. but i also appreciate the great amount of work and detail that went into creating pandora, it is i think the best visual effects use for this year.. some stuff: - the humans so advanced, they cant even dig under ground and just steal the unobtanium from a few clicks away. sure those network trees mightve sensed some presence but they wouldnt act if ur just burrowing the ground and then go bliztkrieg stealing the mineral. - humans mapped out the brain function to link with genetically engineered creature (avatar), but yet, why not just make it quite simply; use the avatar while you are sleeping. let your body rest but your mind is working the avatar like a controllable dream-like sense. this way, the human controller can still have enough rest and perform other stuff (although most would be at night time) - humans can play God and create avatars but cannot place nano-cameras or nano-gps or nano-machines inside avatars to see their locations and see what the avatars are seeing and feeling. - the cameras shouldnt have be almost static as in a way that its handheld, like is shown in the making of. i think some scenes would have been better if the camera angle and movements were dynamic. kinda hard to explain. - i didnt like the boss guy, the guy that always plays like an idiot and a burden to others in other movies. he just didnt have the charisma or the intelligence of a leader. also i cant accept his trademark stutter-ing to be a quality of a leader. the colonel or general though was spot-on as always with this type of character, and played the bad guy role perfectly. im sure i had more thoughts leaving the cinema but some are already highlighted by others so wont rehash here. but i'll say this to the movies defense; it is simple enough that a kid can understand it. which in itself serves a purpose to teach the young kids of these 'issues' that are of course, unoriginal to use that have been around longer. i say that but yet the natives are nearly naked, also not good for kiddies. but hell, this might be the one movie i may buy in blu-ray just to get that 3d affect... maybe... atleast this movie is worth rewatching a few times before it gets boring i believe |

QUOTE some stuff: - the humans so advanced, they cant even dig under ground and just steal the unobtanium from a few clicks away. sure those network trees mightve sensed some presence but they wouldnt act if ur just burrowing the ground and then go bliztkrieg stealing the mineral. like i've explained before, it's all about economy. u can dig a tunnel and gather minerals, but it's way too expensive. look at today's method. it's no where different than it was 200 years ago. so why should it be different 200 years in the future? it's all about the money. they want unobtanium because of what it's worth. why increase cost and decrease the profit? QUOTE - humans mapped out the brain function to link with genetically engineered creature (avatar), but yet, why not just make it quite simply; use the avatar while you are sleeping. let your body rest but your mind is working the avatar like a controllable dream-like sense. this way, the human controller can still have enough rest and perform other stuff (although most would be at night time) sleeping is not just resting the body, but also resting the mind. when we sleep, certain functions in the brain go to hibernation, while others go to sustain mode. there's a very limited function in this state. control requires brain function, even if it's a dream. wiki "sleep" and u'll understand what i'm saying. QUOTE - humans can play God and create avatars but cannot place nano-cameras or nano-gps or nano-machines inside avatars to see their locations and see what the avatars are seeing and feeling. mmmm... why? I went to see Avatar with very high expectation!!
This is one movie I know I'll walk out with a big smile on my face. But.....I just wasted 3 hours and a hundred bucks (yeah..ticket+food+parking+etc) watching it in JB!!! Now I feel Pissed off, CHEATED and hurting inside by it!! No...it was not about the movie..it passed my snore test I mean the subtitle covered almost half of the screen...and the images looks like DVDish quality!!..more like cam quality!! Yeah..JB dun have Digital Projection cinema and it was sadly needed for the movie to be believable...wow..wat a waste.. It effected the view so much. But one thing is for sure...McG picked the wrong person for the John Connor role in T4 This post has been edited by azbro: Dec 31 2009, 08:19 PM |

Homer: Doh' Added on January 1, 2010, 5:49 amas for the army dude, he could use the video feed for early advantage, get a map of the tree early on etc. the avatar can be a useful spy as a side effect. Doh' indeed. even if the troops werent all attacking, being stationed there, paying their wages, providing accomodation, food, operational costs, im sure wouldve costed a lot of money. the digging tunnel is just an example of other methods that could have been used instead. i accepted the way they went with the movie as they wanted to tell a particular story and get a message across. it was just like the red matter star trek thingy. so do you have any thoughts on my sleeping gas method? you gotta admit thats pretty smart and would have saved a whole lot of money if executed perfectly. as for the Boss, yeah he can be a prick if he's paying them, if its out of his own pockets. i dont get the impression he owns the whole company, just that he runs that operations. which is why its confounding. not enough managerial skills and not smart enough to come up with options etc. which is tne end wouldve costed more money in the long run. thats not only counter-productive id say if its all about the bottomline. huge running costs wouldve gotten him fired in the long run, even for the whole mess thats happened. which is why back in the first place i dont think he'a a good Boss. almost a non-performer, not to mention not a lot of managerial skills. the camera part you didnt really have a proper retort. yes of course you cant survive in jungle just by watching discovery channel. thats not the point. the advantages are a lot. not only can you tell and gauge the avatar surrounding but as mentioned you can extract the avatar much much faster when any goes missing. a cheap camera versus wasting a few million quids investment? id say its a no brainer. i understood quite well cameron wanted to tell a particular story. diplomacy versus military might or imperialism oppression. im just saying there are other ways to get the job done if they thought it through. drilling one option. sleeping gas one option. lets see lets try to come up with other options.. hmm.. -maybe trick the natives. give them gifts or food and drug them. incapacitate them. detain them. take over. wipe their memory. - err.. did they even use diplomacy by just asking them if its okay if they drill below the natives land? im sure itll still be no but still, gotta exhaust all options. hmmm thats about what i can think of in such short notice, but i do think the sleeping gas method is the most humane, least expensive, fastest method. can just trick the natives by rounding them all up for some event of cultural exchange or whatever and just put everyone to sleep. detain them. then the army occupy the land and make a base and fortify the area just in case if other tribes comes by. im just saying it can be done, but i understood they went that way to get the point across as it needs to make a statement in a bold way. in any case, your arrogance is astonishing. you just brandish off everyones and anyones ideas aside without trying to come up with other solutions rather than just justifying whats done to no end. its like some people who like listening to their own voices in tv or radio, id say you are nearly the same. you like to read your own writing and maybe get slightly proud? oh yeah, im psycho-analyzing you now buddy. heheh come on, you gotta admit the sleeping gas method is a viable option and a camera is necessary or even a gps if it can be done. you're just probly upset coz you didnt think of it earlier when you accepted beforehand theres just no other way. or perhaps youre just still bitter over the star trek red matter thing. sheesh, get over it Doh' haha... p.s. would you drive your ferrari, then leave it in some jungle or rural area where theres a high chance for it to get damaged or stolen while you take a cab back home? |

sleeping gas is the most humane option? You have got to be kidding me! If we go by your logic, then whenever there's a development like for example building a dam in the forest. Instead of relocating the animals and villagers that are affected by the dam water catchment area, we should gas them and dump them somewhere else?

QUOTE anyway what does the rock which sells for 20 million do? QUOTE Unobtanium proved to be the most baffling of scientific discoveries in the area of superconductors as it had a extremely strong magnetic field, reversing prior knowledge that all superconductors repel magnetic fields. Furthermore, unlike the fragile crystals of human-created superconducting compounds, the substance found on Pandora was a stable quasicrystal with its atoms arranged in a never-repeating but orderly pattern with fivefold symmetry. This structure was not only structurally rugged but also has mircoscopic voids in the quasicrytalline structure that contain the magnetic flux lines. Unobtanium has a unique magnetic field and properties of superconductivity, causing it to levitate. On Pandora, the magnetic effect causes huge outcroppings of Unobtainium to rip loose from the surface and float in the magnetic vortexes. These huge islands, named Hallelujah Mountains by Earth's explorers, are called Thundering Rocks by the Na'vi, who hold them sacred. The unique magnetic properties of Unobtainium are used to contain and direct the energy of the Matter-Antimatter annihilation which propels ships like ISV Venture Star. Without Unobtanium, interstellar commerce on this scale would not be possible. Unobtanium is not only the key to Earth’s energy needs in the 22nd century, but it is the enabler of interstellar travel and the establishment of a truly spacefaring civilization. Making a feed back loop, the more Unobtainium is mined, the more ships can be built, and more mining equipment can be sent to Pandora . copy pasta from a wiki. |

QUOTE(sshahar9 @ Jan 1 2010, 07:05 AM) how much do you calculate placing the army there in waiting (nearly) for 3 months (the time jake was given to infiltrate and convinve them). the war in iraq has showned the us spent a lot of money to station the troops there. sleeping gas idea missed the whole point.even if the troops werent all attacking, being stationed there, paying their wages, providing accomodation, food, operational costs, im sure wouldve costed a lot of money. the digging tunnel is just an example of other methods that could have been used instead. i accepted the way they went with the movie as they wanted to tell a particular story and get a message across. it was just like the red matter star trek thingy. so do you have any thoughts on my sleeping gas method? you gotta admit thats pretty smart and would have saved a whole lot of money if executed perfectly. as for the Boss, yeah he can be a prick if he's paying them, if its out of his own pockets. i dont get the impression he owns the whole company, just that he runs that operations. which is why its confounding. not enough managerial skills and not smart enough to come up with options etc. which is tne end wouldve costed more money in the long run. thats not only counter-productive id say if its all about the bottomline. huge running costs wouldve gotten him fired in the long run, even for the whole mess thats happened. which is why back in the first place i dont think he'a a good Boss. almost a non-performer, not to mention not a lot of managerial skills. the camera part you didnt really have a proper retort. yes of course you cant survive in jungle just by watching discovery channel. thats not the point. the advantages are a lot. not only can you tell and gauge the avatar surrounding but as mentioned you can extract the avatar much much faster when any goes missing. a cheap camera versus wasting a few million quids investment? id say its a no brainer. i understood quite well cameron wanted to tell a particular story. diplomacy versus military might or imperialism oppression. im just saying there are other ways to get the job done if they thought it through. drilling one option. sleeping gas one option. lets see lets try to come up with other options.. hmm.. -maybe trick the natives. give them gifts or food and drug them. incapacitate them. detain them. take over. wipe their memory. - err.. did they even use diplomacy by just asking them if its okay if they drill below the natives land? im sure itll still be no but still, gotta exhaust all options. hmmm thats about what i can think of in such short notice, but i do think the sleeping gas method is the most humane, least expensive, fastest method. can just trick the natives by rounding them all up for some event of cultural exchange or whatever and just put everyone to sleep. detain them. then the army occupy the land and make a base and fortify the area just in case if other tribes comes by. im just saying it can be done, but i understood they went that way to get the point across as it needs to make a statement in a bold way. in any case, your arrogance is astonishing. you just brandish off everyones and anyones ideas aside without trying to come up with other solutions rather than just justifying whats done to no end. its like some people who like listening to their own voices in tv or radio, id say you are nearly the same. you like to read your own writing and maybe get slightly proud? oh yeah, im psycho-analyzing you now buddy. heheh come on, you gotta admit the sleeping gas method is a viable option and a camera is necessary or even a gps if it can be done. you're just probly upset coz you didnt think of it earlier when you accepted beforehand theres just no other way. or perhaps youre just still bitter over the star trek red matter thing. sheesh, get over it Doh' haha... p.s. would you drive your ferrari, then leave it in some jungle or rural area where theres a high chance for it to get damaged or stolen while you take a cab back home? what was the reason for the avatar programme? what benefit does it do for the corporation? it's all about capitalism. they sent the avatars first as a publicity stunt for the investors. not for themselves, not for the natives. sorry, i dont think u get the whole act 1 in the movie. they HAVE DONE diplomatic discussions. they HAVE DONE studies. they HAVE DONE assimilative studies. everything have been done. the natives have now been portrayed as extremely hostile, and the investors are becoming restless. they want unobtanium, and since the natives arent going the easy way, they're pushing for the hard way. they could gas them all. but we're still talking about additional costs. time is running out. they're doing it the fastest way, and the investors agree. come on, u should listen to ALL THE DIALOGUES. it's all there. sheeesh. pay attention next time. |
