Just tried on System Update...you can't reinstall the firmware, you have to wait for the next 2.40 firmware update..

It was a 80GB HK with a dead lens . After replacing the lens, only the BD movies can't be detected but a Digital Video Essential BD (it's a calibration BD) was detected and can be played. All BD games, DVD game NTSC/J (GOW 2) and even a AVCHD DVD+R disc are fine. It was the first case I encountered (I've repaired a few PS3 with dead lenses). The owner later sold it (quite cheap) and bought a new white 40GB SG PS3 as he don't play games on PS3 but only watch BD movies.

So basically this issue I encountered is so rare that only Sony could fix it?

Think Sony Singapore would help. Need to check with a fellow forumer regarding that. I tried googling and hardly find any PS3 owners who encountered this problem. I am just damn fcuking "lucky"...

Lol yea man..

I tried everything, using HDMI, trying friend's Blu-ray movie, reset to factory setting, FULL PS3 FORMAT(!!), changing the BD/DVD video output, even the sound output! And nothing seems to help...

Left two things to check. Firmware and lens =/

just play, you dont play, you will never know what would happen to it. im sure the shop you bought from give like 1 week warranty or something. Play to the fullest and exchange it if you encountered any problem
