most of older games won't get a patch for trophies or in-game mp3

from your description, it looks like the update process must be somewhat corrupted

just a suggestion: try dis-engaging the HDD 1st and see if the PS3 can boot normally. rmb to use a correct size-screwdriver.

yup, the 40Gb model is different, u need the FW ready when you boot with fresh HDD. 60/80GB models can just boot directly.

need to download the latest FW on your thumbdrive cos when you boot a 40GB with a "new" HDD, the system will ask for the FW

on the 60/80GB, even with a new HDD, i rmb the system will just boot.

the 2.40 FW link on 1st page was removed for bug-fixing by sony cos some PS3 is corrupting its HDD after upgrade. i think a new bug-tested FW will come next week.



after 24.0, the proxy method still works for same game link , its the proxy redirecting method - DIFFERENT GAME LINK not working.

so need to wait 2 weeks for naruto demo

well, the theory does make sense. some of those unofficial user created XMB themes may have certain bugs in them. maybe, after updating, the HDD simply find a conflict with those XMB icons and failed to boot? next time, i will change back to default XMB theme before any FW update to be safe.
