Hi folks, I've got a very basic question... for unit trusts (UT), do the returns performance % include management charges? Or does that have to be factored in separately?

I asked a UT agent before, and he assured me the published numbers take management charges into account, but I can't find any B&W statement to that effect in the various prospectus' I've seen. Even fundsupermart doesn't seem to list that info in its FAQs or whereever.

p/s... I do know that initial sales charge and subsequent transaction charges aren't included inside. Any other "gotcha's" to watch out for?

Thanks!
*
u can find this in financial annual reports.

or in the distribution voucher.... gross distibutin and nett distributions, the diff is the charges include tax.

ah wong....... corrct me if i wrong.

I dunno how it do not accept digitally scanned IC & printed out black & white in A4...
As long as it is clear, front & back in 1 page...thats all...

This is first time i hear this...

Maybe, the agent just wanna play safe...coz EPF r quite strict, even some little smudges on the form, they oso reject.
*
its become worst now, the photocopy now must hv UTC name/code/sign/etc. must follow the RULES-mah.

The new fund has introductory low 0.25 service charge now. That's why was thinking to take up the new one instead of old ones which also has appreciated value per unit. Not sure it's a wise choice.
*
its not because new funds, its due to bond fund(low-loaded units) where the SC is always 0.25%, equity/balance funds (loaded units) always 5.5%.

Er.. TakoC & Kitty, sorry for butting in ar.

I think the terms/jargon used may be confusing identification of the matter.
May i try?
Redeem / Sell back to Fund House: AMDynamic Bond whacks U for a 1% exit fee

Switch from AmDynamic to another Ambank's fund: no idea for AmDynamic but fund houses like Public Mutual (PM) and Eastspring (was PRU), $0, $25 or x.xx% depending on switching from loaded to low load OR low load to loaded funds.
Low load = very little service charged up front, like PM's bond funds 0.25%
Loaded = service charged up front of 3% to 5.5% like PM's equity funds for EPF (former) or Cash (later) investments.

Transfer is to legally move the units from one registered owner to another

KParam, Transit & Pink Spider - correct ar the above jargon?
Please correct me if i'm mistaken - i've been reading & hearing those terms since 1990s, may have slightly changed with time & usage notworthy.gif
*
yes, u correct. transfer fee for PM RM25.oo per acc.

term n condition for PM switching at http://www.pk31-switch.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the explanations, Wong and Transit.

As mentioned by Transit, a transfer from bond fund will subject to 0.25% or RM50 charges. So back to the original question, by transferring to another type of fund, is the original fund is deemed sold (capital + profit yield [if any]). And which means after deducting the charges, your remaining investment will be transfer to the other fund?

That's my understand of transferring.
*
ur understanding is SWITCHING.

TRANSFER meaning transfer the owner of acc.

if u hv Fund A, u r the owner for the acc Fund A. later if u decide to give this acc to other, let say to ur spouse. the Fund A acc will transfer to ur spouse name and u NO more hv any right to Fund A acc.

Alright. My bad for using the word 'transfer'.

By SWITCHING to other fund, after deducting the necessary charges, that means your investment in the initial fund is deemed sold, alongside with the profits is SWITCH to the other fund?
*
yes, u correct.

example: loaded units. Fund A.

u invest rm10,000,

the current ur Fund A value when u do switcvhing to Fund B (assmume more than 3 months) = RM10500.

after deduct Rm25 for switching fee = Rm10500 - RM25 = RM10475.

This RM10475 will be invested in FUnd B without any service charge.

How do I invest using "e-Pilihan Pelaburan Ahli"? I logon to my EPF account but could not find any link for the e-Pilihand Pelaburan Ahli

Tis is about the online system between UTMC and EPF. UTMC can update the applications and get the approval fast via online. it will cut down the processing time by EPF as last time need to send the application forms manualy to EPF off for approval.

its not for contributors to apply online.

No. Investment with UT involves three parties. Investor, utmc and trustee. Trustee will hold your money. Anything happened to the utmc, the money will be given back to u by the trustee. The value will follow the current day price.

For me, ut investment risk is very low because we can manage the risk.
*
and also the trustee or/may/will appoint ohter approved UTMC to manage the fund.

Hi to all investment gurus here,

I have invested a bit in UT. Although i understand that it is a mid-long term investment, i don't understand why all product brochures indicates that you have to wait at least 3-5 yrs to see any meaningful gains.  I read a lot of reading to find out
Question is, if a fund reports growth every year, shouldn't i be making profit after Year 1 investing? Why wait 3-5yrs?  Switching out before 3 yrs just because it's not gaining enough is also a bad idea, right?

Please enlighten a newbie.  Thanks!
*
UT is medium to long term. the disclaimer is recomendation for 3 - 5 yrs.

yes, u may gain the profit within a year if market up...up ...up.

u can switch any time u want, just follow the term n condition.

I see.. then what is the indication that i should switch away since generally i should wait 3-5 yrs? What does the term 'break even' means?

Thanks again!
*
recover back the SC or recover the lost in investment.

if u invest, SC will deduct from amount u invest. so, it will take some time to recover SC. when it recovered, its call Break EVen.

or, if u lost money, the time it recovered the lost, its call Break EVen too.

Thanks!  What does dollar cost averaging mean?  I see that most UTs encourage monthly investments to lower the average cost per unit.
*
DCA is the method, where u get less unit for higher price and more unit for lower price. the cost per unit shud be cheaper than market price to give profit for u.

so for those that don't have SC, you're just generally waiting for your targeted profit?

I'm actually waiting for opportunity to SWITCH to another fund. My bond fund ONLY have a 1% exit fee. So i figure i make use of the no SWITCH charge and switch to another fund.
*
switching from low-loaded bond fund to loaded fund, need to pay SC.

r u sure switching no charge? PM? or FSM?

A mutual fund giving out dividend.

Should invest before dividend or after dividend?

Taiko opinion? brows.gif

Im planning to go after dividend because the price will be cheap.
*
if u opt for re-invest option. better after dividedns.
but if u go for before divideds, the dividedns will be reinvest without SC.

so, do homework.

the price only re-adjust, so its not concider cheap ( the holding value may/almost same) unless the price drop due to market drop.

my personal opinion, its better after to avoid MER charges/fees.
