Hey guys, for those who KOed their 8400GS and replace their mobos, is graphics driver crashing frequently one of the symptoms that its nearing its death?

Hi all, here's another victim of the NVIDIA graphic card problem. If only I have know about this thread earlier, I won't have to spend the whole weekend troubleshooting and formatting my laptop, only to find out is hardware problem After reading through this thread, the only solution provided from Dell is replacing the motherboard with the same NVIDIA graphic card and an updated BIOS that only try to prevent the GPU from overheating. In another 6 months time, the same problem may happen again, rite? Sigh... can't believe Dell is actually still selling the laptop with this faulty graphic card... Do they really believe their solution can totally prevent the overheating issue? This post has been edited by rickysee: Sep 29 2008, 02:52 PM

QUOTE(SySTeM_eRRoR @ Sep 29 2008, 04:54 PM) What happened before it died? Can share some symptoms u faced before it died? First the Windows just hang suddenly, then after I reset it, the first thing I see on the LCD is white screen. Slowly some black colour vertical line starts to appear on the screen. After waiting for more than 10 minutes, I reset again. A few things may happen here, you will either get back the white screen or you will see windows loading but with many blue/yellow vertical lines on the screen. If Windows startup successfully after around 5 minutes or less it will hang again. Or half way during windows startup, the system will shutdown automatically. You may even see some weird characters appearing all over the screen during startup. I also notice the palm rest and the bottom of the laptop is becoming very very hot. I think the white screen with vertical lines is the most obvious sympton of the NVIDIA graphic card problem.

You might want to check online reviews of what the X3100 is capable of. Also since you have a desktop I would say you would prefer and better of gaming with the desktop.

Those who say that the X3100 is not good are those who most probably are used to a dedicated graphic card so the integerated graphic card is pretty much useless. You might want to check this out to see some of the benchmarks of what the X3100 is capable of. For me, it is already decent considering that it isn't a dedicated graphic card. On the bright side, with the X3100, your laptop will not be as hot as those who are on the 8400M GS.

QUOTE(sayming @ Oct 1 2008, 03:20 PM) Just got my unit yesterday 2nd hand one tho. Anyway wanna ask you guys. Is it possible to upgrade my graphic card even if my warranty is over already? To my knowledge you'll most likely never be able to upgrade any graphic card for any laptop at the moment. The graphic card is soldered onto the motherboard. To upgrade means getting a new motherboard/ buying a new one. Most computer companies don't allow that. Getting Started

hi guys,
juz got my new xps1330 few days back. i've a few questions which i hope those with xp can answer them.
1) grey scales are severely lacking when playing fullhd movies via hdmi output. any remedy on this? it seems normal vga out is perfect for my lcdtv.
2) can xps1330 be connected to a 5.1 channels speaker system? if yes, how?
3) i've heard of the notorius nvidia gpu problem. is overclocking the gpu really not recommended?
10q so much in advance!
