will dell replace the minor crack on air vent or not? and the sticker as well.
*
you're not the only one with the sticker problem. Haha.. I'm having that problem as well.. good thing is i always push it back once it's loose.

Recently my gc hanging a lot already. I think I'm facing the overheating problem... sigh.. luckily my warranty is 3 years complete cover. I pray by the 3rd year they'll run out of T7250 and have to replace with a faster processor. LOL... (not likely though.. i'm bloody sure they'll keep old stock)

beware, to all nvidia 8400gs user out there, sooner or later this might happen to you..hehehe

btw, i'm in the middle of emailing dell asking about their action in case it happen again after my warraty has expired.

huhuhu.. whistling.gif

It's already happening to me. I have to reboot the whole system. Called dell already and I think they're gonna replace the whole bloody mobo.

QUOTE(M4A1 @ Aug 19 2008, 12:06 AM)
my bios is still a07
so far lappy no problem....
so i dun update ...ok?
i worry once update , many problem occur
and how much to extend and upgrade my warranty?
my current warranty is 1 year , which end at dec..
i wanted to extend it...any idea?
*
Just call Dell customer service, they'll explain it to you. If upgrade to 3 years it should cost you around RM750. I think it's safer if you upgrade the warranty... take it as an insurance. I'm sure you buy insurance for your car or your health right? haha.

yeah it's just bloody unfair.. I only found out about the defects after buying the laptop. It is a damn good laptop apart from the overheating gpu.

Regarding the 1 year extension: I still think that's a pretty fu*ked up 'solution' to their problem. What crap is this? I could use the laptop for 5 years but what if it breaks down sooner despite having that 1 year extra? Plus all the time+money wasted by us to contact dell and have our motherboards replaced. We should be given some sort of rebate or partial refund at least for all these hassle. What i can't accept is this-> despite knowing that their system is faulty, they still continue to sell and ship those affected models. mad.gif mad.gif

For what reason Dell extended another year FOC?
*
It's not confirmed yet.

Anyway, it's due to the faulty 8400 and 8600 gpu which overheats too often.

*
Yes it does get slightly hot.

QUOTE(5564321 @ Aug 20 2008, 03:23 PM)
I mean the bottom part of touchpad, its very hot after using for a while, isit our wifi card down there?

Added on August 20, 2008, 6:00 pmJust serviced my xps at 4pm, the technician changed my motherboard and apply new thermal grease on my gpu and cpu. After that I check my temperature, no much improvement on gpu side but cpu temperature decreased by few celcius to 76-80+c.
*
The wifi card is somewhere below the keyboard if I'm not mistaken. The receiver is just behind your integrated webcam.

I've just received my XPS stickers today. They took the trouble to put those sponge over the stickers and place it in a box. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(seale_navy @ Aug 20 2008, 09:52 PM)
sometimes we cant give reason why dell extent warranty because dell do monitor this site.

well, what is most important now is to get some sort of redemption from dell for those using nvidia apart from their poor build quality.

we have to proof that the nividia graphic card is a common defect that is inherent in the product itself.

what dell will commonly argue is that their laptop is build according to factory standard and industry standard and with usage of the nvidia card definitely in turn causes depreciation hence we cant factor that the nvidia card is faultly as it is working fine on day 1, 2nd day and for a month.

The best way is to request dell nicely to extent the warranty period of some sort, or to give a free upgrade or to give some freebies for example.. a mouse pad, ram upgrade...

but having receive those freebie will nulify any more further special request. the best is ask for warranty extension apart from the dell 12 month free extention annnounce recently.

more importantly, it is also important to get a good customer care representative. the best is go for some high rank people. but however some high rank ppl are very stubborn and dont want to give in.

I remember my time about laptop build defects, the hassle of calling them daily just to get things done. and they will sort of like dont trust what solution u suggest to them.

in the end, i was correct with my solution haha..but the hassle is really waste of time.

my next laptop will probably be a fujitsu or a sony. but one thing that is lacking from those fujitsu and sony brand. CUSTOMER CARE!!! so buying a dell is some sort of double edge sword haha...
*
indeed dell has one of the best customer care service. That's the main reason why I buy my computers from them. On Monday 1am I called them... tuesday the technician called me and asked whether I'm free so he could come change my motherboard. Later in the afternoon I messaged them about my missing sticker letter 'S', today they just sent me one small set of 'XPS' stickers nicely wrapped in a box. Honestly you can't find that kind of support and response that fast.

If you open your 'Dell Support Center' program you'll be able to find your service tag and express service code as well. I don't think there's an actual 'serial number'.

The copper mod does seem very effective based on feedbacks. I'm just wondering why neither dell or nvidia wanted to do it themselves.

Many claim that it's capable of reducing 10 degrees at peak usage. At idle around 5 degrees. I saw someone saying that while playing devil may cry 4 the temp is only 84 with copper mod. It's considered very good as my gpu goes up to 97 when playing warcraft. Idiotic.

It's already mentioned that the 'extended' warranty isn't confirm yet. Anyway.. good luck with your nvidia card... chances are you'll face this problem as well.

You have another option actually.. do a copper mod. That's definitely the most effective method. You'll be able to reduce the temp by 10+ degrees at peak usage.

OR another method is to force your laptop's GC to overheat. Trust me it's not hard to do at all. Just run an endless loop of 3D rendering for few days.. sure your mobo gone case. lol..

@ 5564321 & David900924:
not sure whether you guys aware sometime really depend on luck on replacement part. as the part might take from recon/refurbish part or new (T&C stated, no discussion or no complaint once you buy you agreed, all other OEM brand are using same method too), not 100% confirm as brand new as direct from manufacture as your notebook using now.
sometimes the replacement part might bring you more other issue.
*
yeah i'm aware of that. haha...

anyway, you can call today... then they'll process the report first thing on tuesday morning. There's no need to wait till tuesday.
