Hun, if the talk starts at 4pm, we will try to be there to support you and KP:) (KP also giving speech right?)
OT: Ninang is Bonai's girlfriend smile.gif

Since the timing is quite free, and Petster told me it depends on the crowd, so everything should be ok. Yups, KP will be partnering with me on Sunday, Saturday most likely Reanne....

Ohhh.... Bonai's gf... LOL.... aiyah, I cannot remember names. My brain too many of my pets names. Sometimes I go around and bump into LYN people, kinda malu that they can recognize me and my name, but my brain becomes blur and clueless when I meet them sweat.gif

Mosquito tend is dangerous for gliders. Their nails can get trapped if they manage to grab it and more problems will just come about like injury....

Why you ask such thing? They are gliders, not hamsters.... what food can be taken and cannot be taken by gliders already listed on the 1st page....

ohhh shit buy already... ehh .... hun, i got a bigger cage, but gab also bigger, can i use the mos tent to wrap the cage?? cause that cage real big orh (3 ft length x 3 ft wide x 4.5" ft height) i thought i dun want to waste so expensive cage, got any idea how to mod it?? the gap is 2 cm (bar to bar) [consider got 15 - 16mm empty space] it was originally design for bird.
*
Those mozzie tent cannot wan lah. Firstly it is cloth-like, means it can tear and trap claws.... use PVC mesh lah. Bonai never ajar you meh?

ajar wat? if ajar to modify a cage sure no.. why would i go ajar everybody how to modify a cage.. go buy from pet shack much easier..

if you're asking didn't teach him how to house his glider, erm, come on la.. don't ruin my reputation.. he bought from me at Pet shack, no way he don't know how a glider cage should be..

i already thought all my customers what and how to take care/keep gliders.. what ever they do/buy after that is beyond my power.. what i can make sure is the condition of current setup when they bought it from me.. btw, i offer lifetime after sales service, so they can consult me anytime they want.. so it's not me to blame..

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

anyway, here's how a clever person will do to solve a problem:

[attachmentid=481360]

how can i not get mad when easy things like this have to ask other people to think or research..
internet is nothing if you not used it wisely..
PLEASE FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW REFER TO 1st PAGE BEFORE POSTING/ASKING/BUYING! doh.gif
*
Coz he bought from you, assuming he got ask you bout DIY mah since you are kinda good at DIY and you provide after sales service tongue.gif

Actually, I think alot of newbies lack in reading. This thread got so many past postings on DIY... why so malas to refer back rite? There is already a search button, can always type in DIY...

Ok, here is Luna and Moka latest pict. I was feeding them strawberry yogurt. I need to get some mealworms one of these days.

Luna: She is a little more grumpy today. She is crabbing more than yesterday. I havent done anything besides putting them into their bonding pouch at 10am - 6pm. Then I put them back into the cage without disturbing them.
[attachmentid=481274]

Moka: She is a little more friendly today. Terbalik from Luna, who was friendly became crabby. Moka was crabby became friendly.

HAhah... I missed this post. This is how a 7.5 week and 9 week old glider looks like. Mikozai, I hope you refer back to Pennywise's picture and look. Compare it with your joeys.

so far my casper is always hugging cindy in the pouch i think he will be warm enough inside there while i hav put some tissue and also my old cloth inside.. and i always saw casper was eating most of the slurp + milk inside there wor.. he got sick meh ?
while cindy is just active in the midnight =.= .. even i try to wake her up at evening around 8pm++ she oso wont bothered to crab at me...just pop her head up n c is me..den go sleep back..zz
*
Mikozai, I hope you refer back to Pennywise's picture and look. Compare it with your joeys. Sickly.... is not mean sick like fever and diarrhea.... sickly means the condition. Fur, body structure, means not develop nicely lah and it can bring about problems later in it's life. I'm not the breeder so I do not know what kinda treatment it got.... but this is why we are concern and you should open your eyes a bit to hear our advice.

Breeders and keepers who care for their gliders and joeys sold would only visit this thread. Where are the other sellers then? I don't see other LYN sellers coming in to share their experience. They may give excuses like "no need lah", all rubbish lah or waste time lah.... but this is the way for you to find a dedicated breeder and seller. Well, you already bought so I won't say much anymore.... Just that hear and understand what we senior keepers are telling you coz our experience is loaded with our hours of research and proper care.

QUOTE(mamata @ May 27 2008, 10:32 AM)

Mana you dapat? Endangered lah....

There is also the Biak Glider, coming from the Biak Island.... we may have them since our gliders are normally from Indonesia.... but there is so little research and practically no pictures online, hard to know how it looks like.

Its hard to find the other pictures. Google, looking at those zoo record sites. Hard lah but I manage to get those few. It's even harder to find the sub species of breviceps.

Added on May 27, 2008, 3:38 pmAlot of petshops do not care about the welfare of the glider and joeys for sale and breeding. To them, they are only money. The adults are their profit machines, the adults are like Rm70 cost to them, so if they breed out a few joeys, and the adult dies from sickness, its ok for for them coz the joey covers their cost and gives them some profit. With lousy rotten food and cheap low quality dogfood, they do earn some money.

There are good petshops which care for them, but this is just so rare. So far I only know Pet Shack. Too bad I can't go to Pet Shack today.

Sugar gliders are curious by nature, so if one escapes, you gotta be careful. They will get excited and explore trees. This is IF it escapes outside, there is little chance of finding it back.

If your glider escaped inside your home, then search everywhere. Even if it normally respond to your whistle, when they escape, they won't respond at all. When mine free ranges and finds a place to sleep, they won't respond to my callings or crab coz they feel comfortable. Search bookcases, cupboards, clothes, towel racks, drawers, plastic bags.... My uncle's maid accidentally forgot to close my glider's cage when she thought she should feed them(I didn't ask her to feed them). 2 gliders escaped. I search high and low, shake every thing but no crabbing or sight of them. But the maid caught them back. How? Firstly, I told her to help me at night. Gliders will come out for food at night, so that is the perfect time to catch or find them. This is when inside your house lah.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SERIOUS INFO!

I wonder if you guys know this..... Sugar gliders normally live in a small group. Normally in the wild, about 2 to 3 males to about 4 females. Out of those males, only 1 breeds with ALL the females. So don't care is daughter or what, will breed. In the wild young females can go to other groups so not too bad lah, the risk of inbreeding is not so high.

In the wild, females have have joeys twice. They mate around June to July and late November.... but in captivity... pitiful, they breed all year round if the breeder is those commercial breeder. How come? Simple, they separate the joeys young. Why? Coz once the joey is away from the mom, the mother glider would come into season and breed again. That is why the suppliers can have so many joeys for sale, that is why almost all supplier stock are underage joeys coz of this breeding cycle. Don't you think cruel? Tires out the female so much.

Should never keep cats and gliders in the same room, same with dogs unless your dog is the kind of breed that won't attack small animals. But never leave gliders with dogs and cats without supervision.

QUOTE(Pennywise @ May 27 2008, 10:00 PM)
Today, I came back from work and got Luna and Moka out of their pouches. They were still hanging out in the pouch. Then, I got them into the bonding pouch - it's getting easier by the day. rclxms.gif

I brought them out with me to a steamboat restaurant with my friends. The girl said so cute and the voice is nice. The guy  shakehead.gif said I'm crazy and the voice is scary. My guy friend is more discouraging but the female friend is more curious on how they look like, what they live on, etc. rclxms.gif

Then, I went to a fruit shop at 9.00pm and bought 1 slice of papaya and 1 slice of honeydew. thumbup.gif  I ate most of them leaving like 1/8 of it for them. When I was trying to get the papaya out from the plastic, it fell on the floor!  doh.gif  doh.gif

So tonight, I will feed them honeydew + blueberries yogurt + lai. I think that's about it. It may even be too little. I havent got the chance to get some mealworms yet. Hopefully can get some latest by this weekend.
*
Good that it is getting easier. Like I said, all it takes is a bit of time and love heheheh. Give another month or 2 of bonding, then I am sure you can have them clinging on to your shoulder without jumping away.

Yogurt, you can cut it down to twice a week, it doesn't need to be fed everyday. Try and get hold of Ciku, some gliders like. The only sort of fruits I have fed Moka and Luna before I handed them to you is apple, pear, mango, plum, carrot, cherry tomato, rambutan.

QUOTE(emino @ May 27 2008, 10:03 PM)
I'm alternating Teddy's diet now. Usually I feed him 3 meals per night. Fruits, slurp and wormies.

But he never seems to finish the fruits. So now I'm trying a day with slurps and worms, and alternating it with fruits and worms the next day.

It seems to be working so far. Teddy finishes his fruits a few days now. Will keep on doing this I guess.
*
Wah, so many things at night. I normally feed fruits 1 night, next night dried dogfood and slurp with mealworms. I guess almost same lah. Tonight is fruits for my babies hahah. I just bought mango and jambu air for them.

I think that'd be jtl or Ms. Joan, the lady boss!
Cut yogurt to once a week eh? OK, tomorrow night, I go back to babyfood. It's good that there's a fruit shop near my house that opens till 10pm. Everyday I come back from work, I can stop by there just to buy cut fruits. It ease things and its RM1 per fruit. I get to eat 7/8 of it and Luna and Moka share another 1/8. Too bad they're the small shareholders.

This is quite embarassing to say... plum, I have no idea what's that. My family isnt the type to buy fruits and I've hardly ever consume fruits. Now, it's a time for change and change is good. I will try to get some rambutans from pasar malam tomorrow.

Added on May 27, 2008, 11:42 pmBy the way, Hun, what is dried dogfood? Also, slurp has calcium and protein or just one of it? I know mealworms can make up for the protein needs but what about calcium? Anything besides Rep-Cal?
*
user posted image
This is plum loh.

Babyfood? You mean the jar babyfood? That is best not give too much coz the nutrients is low. The best is still fresh fruits and gliderSLURP.

Anyway, try and get hold of water chestnuts. Just get sweet nice fruits from the fruit seller, you can even try guava on them but I dunno if they will eat or not. LOL.

Dried dogfood is kibble, but your joeys still not old enough to chew on kibble, and normally if we soak in water or juice they don't really like. Wait for another month, then offer a kibble for them to taste. Limit to only 1 piece of kibble per day. I use Orijen coz is the safest along with Eaglepack Holistic.

Papaya, jambu air and sugar apples are high in calcium.

This is a sugar apple, also known as custard apple. Grown locally, very sweet and tasty. My gliders love it.

For me I gotta alternate coz they always attack Slurp first. So I give alternately. Best thing is that they will finish 3 bowls of fruits. Heheheh.... that stainless steel bowl, imagine 3 bowls for 4 gliders, all bowls full till wanna tumpah. I tried 4 bowls but they would have leftovers, so 3 bowls so far so good.

QUOTE(thisiskj @ May 28 2008, 12:15 AM)
actually.. guyz.. mealworms and crickets have the same amount of protein right?

i feed mine during day.. whatever fruits i eat also i give one la.. dried fruits.. steam chicken pieces.. =P twice a week during day.. and sometimes some egg..

at night.. 1-3 different fruits + choy sum + Slurp alternate days + mealworms x 5-10 + 2 -3 drops of vitagen + wake up middle of the night to let it bite my finger.. =P
*
Forgot, crickets have slightly more protein than mealworms.... but then mealworms very high in fat. These days crickets can easily get contaminated if the petshop buys crappy crickets to sell, so it is ok to just stick to mealworms, as long you don't go overboard with feeding and always gutload.

QUOTE(bonai @ May 28 2008, 01:03 AM)
hun got new siggy...

cricket contains more protein than mealworms..
*
Kena loh.... my siggy damn outdated.... kena make it attractive a bit. Hahah., I still need to do more thumbnails for my website and other stuff.

QUOTE(Pennywise @ May 28 2008, 01:13 AM)
Okok, I will find plum but its quite unlikely the fruit shop I spoke of earlier has it. I didnt see it earlier. They have cherries though. A small pack for RM15! I will probably get them tomorrow. I havent been feeding them babyfood since the first day I brought them home. I'm just rotating.

Water chestnuts? No idea what's that either. I really am not a fruit kind of person so the normal fruits I know, all these canggih fruits - really dont know la. I will find more choices, no worries. Guava is a good idea but that's NOT sweet at all.

OK, will wait on kibbles. Moka dived into the strawberry yogurt and dirtied herself. Then she grabbed onto the cage bars and walked around leaving trails of yogurt. Have to wipe before ants attack. I also need to buy ants chalk or something.

Yes, I saw these custard apples at the fruit shop earlier but I didnt buy because I wasnt sure what the heck was that. Hahaha... I will get some of each tomorrow. Look forward to my next glider meal updates. Now just mealworms belum dapat because the nearest pet store that sells them is in the opposite side of town (which means I have to go through jam to get them).
Wowww... that's A LOT!! How many gliders now? 7? 9?
Eggs, did you take out the yolk? I havent try steam chicken pieces but that has gotta wait for a while.
Mine is served in 3 of the stainless steel bowls.

Bowl 1: fruits of 2 types
Bowl 2: slurp or yogurt
Bowl 3: vege (baby carrots and cherry tomatos)

All the cherry tomatos i've given them, the skin drop on the tray. They dont finish it, only eat the good parts. Is now a good time to feed them eggs? I can try giving them eggs tomorrow if its allowed. Boiled eggs, shell removed, yolk... remove it too?

Added on May 28, 2008, 1:17 amWill swap bowl 2 for mealworms once they get it started.
*
Skin never eat is ok, normal lah. Gliders don't like to eat the skin. You can try boiled egg. Yes, remove the shell.

Custard Apple, you gotta remove the seeds, coz this fruit has plenty of seeds but so goody goody sweet that it feels like sugar in the mouth. I love custard apples.

*
Yes, the best is blending with slurp... but slurp already got eggs loh LOL. Anyway, my gliders would only eat the yolk.... whites all leave. So another way to feed egg is scrambled eggs but then must cook without oil lah.

today is the 1st week anivesary for my suggie live in my house tongue.gif

today morning i woke up at 7am and they are so active...i also hear they 1st time barking like dog (means the sound like dog weh weh weh) litat..i duno wat means lo...den i hear they are inside pouch there sound like mouse chik chik chik chik chik alot of time den i mai bring the whole pouch out and play with them lo..the 1st 1 come out is my dear little cindy, she not scare me anymore and when i hold her she not shake like last time liao ^^ so happy tat she nver bite me and i able to sayang her alot..den i let her walk around a my hand and play awhile with her and let her go back her pouch..
den is my casper turn liao, he looks like abit scare of me..but then i gentlely push the pouch until his body pop up, i try to sayang him with my 1 finger til his head pop up and look at me..den i continue sayang him..suprisely he didnt nib or bite my finger ^^ den he come out oso while cindy is waiting inside the sleeping pouch there and looking at me and casper having fun.. haha
but casper de body really very small o...and the fur is not as much like cindy especially the fur around his behind de leg there.. any idea ma ?
btw i found out 1 thing, i put the slurp there and milk..they drink all the milk but just eat abit of slurp...but when i mix up the milk and slurp they ate all.. hmm.. isit ok if the milk + slurp mix and feed em everyday ? i do put some apples and honeydew.. but they eat less fruit de..duno y..
and also how to prevent the fruit dried so fast when put in the cage ? i mix abit bit of water to the chopped fruits there..duno like this can o not tongue.gif
*
Casper is just under develop I think... Anyway, if you are coming to the talk, I can check. If not, I will be at Pet Shack tomorrow to do SLURP delivery at around 3 to 4pm....

Slurp can mix with milk, no problem.

Fruit, you should not put water into the fruits coz it can cause bacteria to build up. Those fruit sellers put salt water, coz bacteria don't like salt but your gliders cannot take salt in that way too, it can cause kidney problems. If the fruit dries, then just cut and give more fruits. This is why I prefer to feed fruits at night, coz it won't dry so fast like daytime. Night time is cool.

QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ May 28 2008, 10:20 AM)
YUP, I know it!

The 2-3 times a year breeding sadly does not apply to captivity ones, so the breeders take full advantage of this and turm the female suggies into breeding machine one after another cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

This will not only tire the suggie momma, but also change her body and shorten her lifespan... cry.gif

Such evil and cruel human beings!!!
With cats and dogs, not so well.

With other small animals okay if the small animals don't disturb them.

But a glider should never-ever be left alone with any other animal unsupervised.
See, great! rclxms.gif

----

Yogurts should be limited to once or twice a week, maximum pun 3 times is enough cuz it's just a supplement smile.gif
I prepare 3 bowls everynight too for my 4 monsters.

1 bowl fresh cut fruits. 1 bowl slurp. 1 bowl mealworms with occasional kibbles.
Water Chestnut is Sengkuang Cina.

The whole fruit looks like this,

Wahhh, I also kena buat siggy lor tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif
Oh actually in the mix already contain egg wor, so no need to feed them hard boiled dy smile.gif

What I meant blend in the mix is if you do the mix smile.gif

You kena buat name card juga hahahah.

When I boarded your 4 monsters, they tak makan banyak. I guess they missed you so not much of an appetite.

so is there any talks about cruelty of petshop on that day?
maybe can show them diff between under age and suitable age

No, we cannot say out names.... we can touch on things about how suppliers breed out so many joeys and how they sell them to petshops and middleman sellers, but that is it.

QUOTE(mikozai @ May 28 2008, 11:43 AM)
huh..there are so many food i put inside there...
got 3 plate..

2.milk + abit of honey
3.chopped pieces apple..

how come they still hunry leh ?
*
Barking, is normally calling one another for alerting and also for communication with other gliders. Since no other gliders, so they are just calling out to you loh. It's normal anyway.

NO HONEY! Your joeys are young lah, did I mention to wait till it is older? I already mention this in the past few post to Pennywise and what honey can do and should wait another 2 months before can feed honey......

The one thing good and sweet for gliders is Agave nectar, but this is only sold at certain Jusco supermarkets under the organic section.

Did we say blend mealworms? In the past post, we already discussed on how to introduce mealworms.

Joeys can start tasting works when they are fully weaned and it takes introduction. No one blends mealworms, it spoils faster and is quite disgusting.
