Hi all, still missing Judy badly.. According to my friend,  Judy seldom sleeps in the sleeping pouch nowadays but sleeps in my baju which I left in the cage for her.

Judy misses you alot. The same thing happen to Spel'it's gliders. Today she got her CK and KC back already, and KC has been nibbling and grooming her neck. So sweet.

Who in the world told to give bread and jam to gliders? I remembered someone said bread and kaya can or not. Come on lah, gliders should not be eating cooked and processed food that is meant for humans, same with all types of pets. Natural foods, safe foods, all listed on the 1st page. If tak faham.... then baca lagi. If tak faham lagi, then baca baca baca or might as well don't have a glider if still ignorant with the facts.

Like KP said, we have seen, heard and gotten so many complaints and stories about their gliders dying. Some would cry when they tell me, some would lah and have this tak apa sound in his voice. We are all concern, me may sound like nagging and marah but we are only doing it to get the facts into you guys punya kepala. We cannot take animals for granted, we cannot just biar coz they are just haiwan.... benda hidup kita kena jaga baik baik lah. We are their guardians.

Bread bloats, soaks water really well and has yeast, which gliders may have allergic reactions.... so never feed bread.

About the cage thing. If they do not sleep in the pouch but in newspaper.... it's cause their breeder or seller or supplier never gives them anything to sleep in but newspaper. Gliders that have never experience high sleeping areas tend to not want to sleep high up.

About getting a pair. Start with a female first coz females need time to mature properly. They should only have their 1st breeding when they are about 10 to 12 months old. If you put a pair of male and female together when joeys, the male matures faster, so he would breed early when the female is sexually mature. Females can get sexually mature at 6 months old, and breeding too early can cause health problems, shorten lifespan..... this happens in the wild. Wild gliders can only live up to 5 years... sometimes a bit longer if they have never gotten into the tummy of a predator. In captivity, with the right diet, husbandry, care and no early breedings, it can go to 10 or 15 years.

That's weird.... none of my gliders or any of the gliders that have boarded with me have ever lifted the mesh. Maybe your cage is not suitable.

If you want happy long lived gliders, get single sex pairs. Or neuter the male.

I tire out.... really tired with 9 gliders. Crazy crazy tired but worth it.

Oh, there is a method to stop pairs from breeding.... but I still am learning. Apparently breeders overseas separate when the female is on heat. How to know? You really must monitor very closely. If a female is on heat, the male will groom the female more and try to clean her privates.... then this means female is ready to breed so need to separate for a week I think.... I'm still researching on this.

Bubba is now 30 days old. Yesterday Jamien and Neshie came over, and saw Bubba... they too were surprised that he was such a nice size. The ones at Ikano were smaller and sickly looking. Many callers I get about their joeys dying are because of getting from Ikano or some pet shop or a supplier friend. They say "feed apples and mealworms can already" or "give susu kucing can" or "get the gerber jar apple sauce and dogfood"..... these are where the joeys suffer and die from malnutrition and starvation..... so macam ni lah kes kes yang kita dengar. Sangat menyedihkan. Yang I sangat tak suka is bila orang yang menjualnya cakap bela glider sangat mudah macam hamster.

Wah, like that also can lift up? I think is from previous living conditions. Try putting the pouch at the lower part of the cage, and increase the height every 3 days till you reach the top of the cage you are comfortable with.

Some gliders like the feeling of the food bowl. Some may find it cool, some may see it as security, some may just enjoy sitting in coz the size is just nice. Stoning, or like what you said, stay like statue is actually quite normal with gliders.

If your glider still is scared of you, means not fully bonded loh. You never play and bring it around in bonding pouch?

Sugar gliders are legal here and there is no need for license as they are not an endangered species. US and certain places in Europe need licenses. Some Asian countries like Singapore and also oversea countries put gliders as ILLEGAL.

KJ, thanks for loading the pics. I will surely update it into my Event list in my blog.

yah, no new articles yet coz my connection was damn bad. Imagine few seconds can online, then later no connection for like 5 to 10 minutes then later 1 minute can online then later cannot. LOL.... frustrating to post new articles. Anyway, look at the blog later. I got new stuff to share.

Also, new thread will be up soon but please try not to post "Yay! Congrats!" coz it's a waste of posting..... lets keep it with info, discussions and chats about our gliders. Old treads always close at 2500 post, not 2000 lah.

how bout trying this, whenever you don't have internet connection (adsl blinking), try to call your house phone or use your house phone to call you.. emino thought me this.. and it works sometimes.. kinda cool!

"Yay! Congrats!" post could be done after typing a few sentence.. then it won't be a spam..  thumbup.gif

Yah, if post with a few sentences then ok lah. I look back, some just post 1 or 2 words.... then got those emoticons added LOL.

I tried.... my phone line works alright..... even after calling the house phone.... the connection for Net still cacat. Tonight thankfully no cacat case yet.

To all NEWBIES

Beware of sellers on the Internet that are selling joeys on classifieds. Knowing a seller's trade background on those classifieds like Adpost or Mudah is not reliable. Recently got 1 guy posted 2 joeys for sale... of course the price is cheap.... but man oh man... pity those joeys. Selling at 2 weeks OOP but go state 2 months old.

Some of the sellers would say "Is alright wan, I teach you how to nurse or feed milk" or some would say "Is healthy, eat babyfood very well".... then stay away from these sellers. It would sound cruel not to buy the joeys off their hands to save them but then you would just be supporting that particular seller to buy more and breed more joeys to sell off to gain profit. Because if they feed crap food and sell for Rm300... don't you think they earn more?

I can honestly tell you guys this.... some people actually thought that breeding gliders is a profitable hobby. Got a few people ask me to buy 100s so that I can make money. I was like.... "Er, can't make money coz of their food, cages and care" and I get back answers like "No need feed good stuff wan, as long they alive is good enough, produce you joeys for money is enough"...... I don't see it that way..... breed as a hobby, don't use gliders as your way to gain money into your pockets.

So to anyone who is scouting out online classifieds for gliders, do be careful, do not buy on IMPULSE. Do not buy coz you feel the price is cheap, do not buy coz the seller tricks you with sayings like "if buy very young, it would cling to you more".

Why underage joeys cling more and why proper age joeys do not cling much? Underage joeys have this instinct to be close to their mother, so if you separate early, it sees you as mom so it would cling on to you more. For 8 weeks OOP joeys, they are not so clingy, they dare to jump around to explore, they dare to show you their emotions, they dare to defend themselves if they feel threatened. Underage joeys have no strong teeth to defend themselves....
