Thanks for bringing your questions up here.

I'd like to share my view.

There are a couple of things very wrong here.

First, the basking lamp you are using is actually a general heating lamp, they emit heat.

But if you are not careful, you will very lightly to overburn your critter, esp when your lamp is placed at such close distance. Even with star torts, the amount of heat must be carefully regulated to avoid overheating, dehydration and discomfort.

Sugar gliders are creatures with night vision and we have discussed previously that their eyes are extremely sensitive to light, even the normal candescent white fluorescent, it is still consider not suitable, but can be tolerable if place at certain height.

Even you decide to put a lid over the container but lights can penetrate through the sides.

To keep them warm, you can place them at a warmer place instead, at toom temperatere. And you can provide fleece pouches for them to sleep and keep warm. They will hardly catch a cold if you do this.

The best temperature for gliders is 70-90 Fahrenheit. That means, 21-32 degrees C. Our weather at Klang Valley range between 23-32 degrees.
This indicates that current tropical climate is fine.

Personally, i will never resort to put my gliders in a small container with a lid. In fact, i'm in the process of expanding my cage, a 5 x 7 ft will be good smile.gif I'm a bit worried when you said you want to put them in the container.

Do what seems best to you yeah?  smile.gif

i got 2 cage, one is 5 ft x 4 ft x 4ft cage... that is my DIY cage.. but it is too big them.. currently may b.. n my another glider.. i put her in the 2ft x 2ft x 2ft cage now... separate them.. so.. the container is juz temporary... for this small one... i mean the younger one...

Spirit,

Why do you need to put your joey with the heating element in the first place?

Your joey too young?

Any sort of "Light" is a BIG NO-NO for gliders.

If in any case you need to keep them warm you can get those heating plates for small animals(but must read and cover with cloth before use) or search for how to DIY the double container warmer.

The DIY double container warmer is basically 2 same sized tanks stack together with the bottom one filled with some hot/warm water. This will create a warmer temperature for the top container.

But everything need to be done carefully and must have some cloth or barrier to avoid the joey getting too warm.

If your joey is not too young/underaged or in dire need to be kept warm, none of the above is necessary... A good thick blanket is sufficient to keep them warm.

-----

thisiskj,

Our SPCA can't do much about small animals. Handling cats and dogs itself is hard for them without the proper support and funds.

Do you know that the maximum fine for animal cruelty is only RM200 in our country?

What is the value of RM200 for big pet shops or other animal cruelty offender today?

Na-da.

Animal lovers has been fighting for this since god knows when, but the fine has not been increased still.

I think Malaysia does lack the heating elements or heating pads/equipment. I don't know whether Pet Shack do have, do they?

I hope to come across one.

But the opposite, a chiller would be easy to find..

I'm looking for chiller for my marine.

I'm not sure if Pet Shack has the heating plate/pads but I've seen it at major pet stores like Pet Safari smile.gif

It is used for small animals most commonly rabbits.

lust.gif hi minnie..

Bonai, thanks a lot for ur technique, i think its really work even its early to say but I see the improvement dat she not nibble my finger, starting I teach her ur technique until now.

The most difficult is to make her eat on the table, everytime I want her eat in front of me, she always just play around, never sit and eat.

I read here dat we can give glider applesauce, is it the baby food one? Its ok if we give gliders dat sauce more often?

We can give Gerber's applesauce to young baby joeys whom in the process of weaning. Applesauce for them to lick on.

When they have grown and more able to ingest solid food, applesauce would often be unnecessary. Fresh food always have better edge on sweetened preserved canned food.

I have been thinking of using rivets and aluminium plate to replace cable ties to fasten the wire mesh to my DIY cage.

But it's A LOT of drilling work, i think i don't have time to do all that anymore.

I will be going to search out for something called square U-Bolts or some other alternatives that will not compromise the overall appearance.
