For anyone that still thinks the iPhone 3G will cost USD199 (with 2 years contract), Telecom Italia (TIM) announces Pre-Paid iPhone 3G pricing.

"Unlike many carriers, Telecom Italia will offer a selection of pre-paid plans alongside its standard contracts, the 8GB iPhone 3G retailing for €499 while the 16GB iPhone 3G will retail for €569"

8GB = €499 = RM2519.95
16GB = €569 = RM2873.45

Conversion rate of €1 = RM5.05

Thats not including any taxes (if applicable) plus the 'profit margin' of local sellers and unlocking fees. My prediction for local price if its available here (like they said ... underwater sets):

8GB = RM3k
16GB = RM3.3K - RM3.5K

Mmmmm ... reminds me of the good old days when iPhone was first sold here, RM3K for 8GB and it can't even be used with maxis (that time la)

its ok to bear in mind that the price is ranged at 2k-3k, still underwater set and its reasonable enough (genuine ipod touch cant go 1k, rite?). street sellers also want to make money, give chance la kan? i reckon iPhone sellers @ LYP are selling at rm2399 for 8G now, and its not surprising if the 1st batch of iPhone 2.0 sells at 2.5-3k. sellers and buyers mutual consent should, agree the price. smile.gif

its the 'to avoid disappointment game'.

raise the bar, so when the real price is lower than the expected, we'll be happy, but if it is up to the expectation/higher, then we'll be less dissapointed as expected.

all we know it wont be $199 for sure. though i agreed that the price of gbp199 + 18 months contract with o2 uk is reasonable.

mmm...as for me i don't see it as a brain wash at all, but rather looks like that's the most probable scenario that will be.

it's all based on the infos that's available now, such as from this official site:
http://www.iphone.vodafone.it/

and plus after doing some math on the price + taxes + profit margin, of which has been shown by frozzbyte.

but if the price becomes lower than expected, then it will be great for all potential buyers. but at least, next time there won't be so much noobs that say "hey iPhone is $199 only!", "wow cheap iPhone, do u regret buying the 1st gen?", etc etc.

so which u think is better to say,
a) iPhone is $199!
b) don't expect iPhone to be $199!

for sure, it won't be $199.

actually there is way to get it cheap.

unless some dodgy people can sell it secretly from the china factory (like how they sell genuine nikes, ralph lauren etc outside). they are slightly imperfect but no visible problems overall. hey, i dont mind my 3g iphone having some minor scratches so long it works well and cheap!

the hong kong people are experts in this 'field' because they can usually market their products better than their mainland counterparts.

It's not always accurate, heck even The Star published some articles about the iPhone and state the price $199 (RM609) and this line may confuse alot of people thinking it's cheap. shakehead.gif

nah... won't be so cheap.. but thats in europe.. even the first gen iphone unlocked the price was ridiculously high...

i'm still guessing it will be about 2.5k when it comes here...
but 16gb model for sure will be close to 3k la..
its not gonna be cheap at all

i'm holding off until i move to australia next year.. will get mine then.. hopefully before that the 3g would have hit our market and drop the price of 1st gen..
wanna get a 16gb 1st gen for collection purposes... still love the aluminium back

lol even the early "insider" news is not that accurate bout this iPhone 3G. even the pricing infos aren't that accurate before it's officially announced.

euro euro euro, myb u wonder why izzit right? these r the aswers:
1. the ONLY official pricing on contract-free iPhone 3G we have here is from http://www.iphone.vodafone.it/
2. in most countries in europe they are required to make contract-free unit available too, while in US they don't have to. and most likely there wouldn't be one.
3. u need to perform registration before u walk out of store for contract iPhones, thus eliminating the possibility to get it at discounted price

ok if u still wanna buy iPhone in US, maybe u can terminate the iPhone account after u have registered with AT&T. just pay another $175 for Early Termination Fee + $30 for registration (not ure the right amount, u can check around this thread) + your monthly usage. check the earlier part of this thread in case i got the calculation wrong. but most likely people will buy an unsubsidised unit as it will be not that complicated as buying an iPhone with contract and proceeding ETF. and we even dunno yet if this iPhone 3G is applicable under the ETF.

and yeah, if u have read the price of RM1999 etc etc anywhere else, myb u wanna consider reading on macrumors, tuaw, 9to5mac, engadget, etc etc. still no word on the other country's pricing on the iPhone. nope, i still haven't seen the price of around RM1999 yet.

but, as some had said before, if the price becomes lower than expected then it will be great too. why not raise the bar to avoid disappointment.

hahaha...even the 1st gen iPhone can easily reach RM3xxx (near 4k) when it is first sold in malaysia. so i don't see the price of RM3xxx to be impossible for this iPhone 3G.
