We really can't compare it which is not under the same technology, Streamyx is ADSL that using copper wire to run, but P1 is under WiMax that depends on mircowave. What i can tell you is that, Streamyx can provide a really consistent speed all the way you downloading a file or surfing a web. Meanwhile P1w1max's speed is not that consistent, it keep jumping from 100kbps to the max speed you can reach. Sometimes you will get speed hang because of the crazy jumping speed. You go those flash speedtest to do some testing, it really can't give a actual speed what you got, We can't judge the speed through those speedtest, because you can't really see the process of downloading a file, if suddenly the speed drop until 200kbps, but the flash speedtest still showing a quite high speed because flash speedtest didn't show a instant drop of the speed, it just slow droping. The best to do a real test, is to download a file with a bandwidth speedmeter. Then you will know the actual speed you got and how consistent is it.

if so..that's mean WIMAX is not suitable to play online game? since the speed keep jumping

Play online game consider no problem, just onces awhile you got 3-4 second delay. If you were on more Dota, You really can't create a game because the CPE already blocked all the ports ^^ only 80 HTTP and 513 LOGIN are open

I think the connection speed and stability is dependent on your signal strength. Im on Wimax, near ss14 subang. Connection is very stable, speed consistent at 100+ kbps whether im on youtube or http downloads. I rarely get disconnected, maybe like 2 or 3 times a week where the signal goes dead, and will come back up in like a minute or two. Latency in online games are pretty good. Comparing to streamyx, i get like 50ms higher, but since its wireless, i think its acceptable.

The signal is just showing how close to the base station, Anyway i'm getting green light all the time and yet this how was the result i got. Frequent disconnected and unstable speed. I think in this area had a problem and others area seemed fine. Or perhaps my area started to traffic congested? I hope not. That's too early to have that.

Too bad i was staying in that area. Full of unsatisfaction. sad.gif

I believe online games is highly dependent on the location of the game server as well. I remember TMNut had so many problems even playing on a SG server not so long back. But if Wimax offers me a consistent 50ms I'd find it more than acceptable. Though ideally, I'd like a ping lower than 30 all the time. drool.gif LOL!

I wouldn't say signal strength but your distance between the base station. LOL! We should try camping outside the base station and test with rain. If can still get disconnected, it's either the waves or something else. brows.gif

Hmm, frequent disconnection due to rain or it's the location? Where are you located, again? hmm.gif

Since P1's modem is quite big (looks like a miniature version of moon cake metal box), I wonder how it can be used on the go...?

A guy came to our office here in JB to demo P1MAX yesterday, I didn't get to see it, but those who saw the demo said the speed was fast, but since hardly any users sharing the connection, of coz fast lah! biggrin.gif

Wonder how strong the microwave radiation is, since the base station may be a few km away...?

That sounds good to me..so it's like when signing up, hoping that we get the right area that has good signal strength..i wonder if anything can be done about the other complaints..did you guys ask p1 about it?

to test the radiation, put a plant beside it, if the plant dies, then you have the answer, i did the same for my astro dish long ago and the plant started DYING. sweat.gif

The ASTRO dish is shooting point to point to the sky, it's not even aiming at you. How do you know your plant won't die without the ASTRO dish.

You stand outside of your house at 1pm for 3 hours while holding a cellphone. You let me know whether you will feel like you are dying after 3 hours.

Count me in...
I'm also W1Max user in Jalan Genting Kelang Area.

When I'm a Trial User, the speed in this area WAS fabulous.
But since after official launch of W1Max in this area, the speed dropped significantly especially the Upload speed and the connection quite unstable.

I want to know how much has it drop? does it go below the speed they promised?

hehe, funny le how you test the astro.

Astro is downlink only, not uplink. Even if you put your plant anywhere in the open sky, it still receiving Astro signal as long as it's under the satellite foot-print.

Your Astro dish is a receiver only. It gathers the radiation that comes from the sky and lands within a 0.3m2 area and focuses it on a single point - the small receiver unit on the stalk. Any plant with at least 0.3m2 of surface area facing that same direction will collect as much Astro radiation as your dish does, even if there is no dish within 1000km. So your claim of causality is preposterous.

Urm...abit hard to believe but yet, possible. Oh well, ain't a scientist or researcher so I wouldn't know. I'm more worried about long electrical cables and their towers than the microwave signals. tongue.gif

Er... I got no digital camera sadly. But you can imagine the size of the modem by holding a Oxford Dictionary or Kamus Dewan Edisi ke 3/4. The modem is roughly that thick and wide.
