I just called up P1. Got the following info :

1. Speed is capped at 2.4mb because that is what the GOVERNMENT allows. P1 can go up to 10mb now. Sad innit.

2. Not on best effort basis but they guarantee 70% to 100% speed. Means on a 2.4mb, it will go as low as 1.6mb.

Point 1 worries me alot. If that's the case, any other good competitor to streamyx will never make it.

Currently i am very satisfied with P1, I watch 3 episodes of sitcoms direct stream yesterday. It was really good. saw 2 episode of top gear (streaming) try doing that on Streamyx or any other ISP. Latency is low, played some online games on my ps3 yesterday. Worked like a charm. ahhh.... bliss i tell u. For the time being, i am gonna give it a 5 star. Dont mean to be pesimistic though, but some of you have a point about the service is still new hence its not crowded. For now i am gonna enjoy the excellent speed.

I've tested it and the speed is amazing. The problem now is sometimes the signal just disappears for a while and it is not useable.

If you are having slower download or upload speed, just move or turn the modem and test it until you get a good speed. The placement of the modem affects both download and upload speed.

I can confirm with you guys that their customer service and technicial response is much good than TM. Even there's a upgrading their network, P1 will auto send a SMS to inform the customers. If you got problem with your speed at your area, just give a call with them, and later on they will give a call back to confirm everything and what was happened on their network.

and for your information, TM's streamyx also do have a data limitation on their services which i heard from their internal staff who told me about that, the limit they set is under 30gb.

They still can't give the actual answer to the customer, that how much they cap.

I believe at the moment due to the fact that their network is still new and they need to gain customer signup, the 20GB will not be imposed. The T&C is to protect their right to implement the 20GB cap when the time is right. Just that they have the right to implement it doesn't mean they will do it. Since they have bought the backhaul bandwidth and it's under utilized in the beginning, it's better to let the users to use as much as they want to gain positive feedback. IMHO.

There is no competition at the moment, I will foresee the available speed will be higher as other ISPs are offering higher package. If you look at the box, the CPE can reach up to 10Mbps. But I believe it's unwise to offer so high as the current market speed rate is only around 1-2 Mbps. I think it is more or less also a business strategy.

As compared with current mobile broadband like Maxis 3G, Celcom 3G and UMobile 3G ... P1 W1MAX current speed and reliability have won. At least you get at least 70% of what you subscribed as compared to 3.6Mbps of what promised by 3G ISP.

Yup, only 1 RJ45 port. So you'll need to connect it to a LAN/wireless router to share the connection.
