Greetings,

What's Picaday
Picaday (This Thread) is created for you guys to share any interesting pictures that you snap daily and also for those who don't have a thread @ Photo Gallery due to any reason.

Picaday's Rules and Regulations
- No, Picaday is not a place for you to spam or increase your post count. Picaday's main objective is to encourage more people to post their pictures here and share knowledge among each other.
- Only post pictures taken by you using Digital Cameras be it from a Point-and-Shoot, Prosumers or DSLR. Pictures snapped by cameraphones are prohibited in Picaday.
- Use the spoiler tag whenever you are quoting someone's picture in Picaday.
- Photographs posted must not exceed 1024px in either width or height.
- One-liner comments e.g. "Niceeeee~~!!!" are considered as spam. Kindly include the reason why you like or dislike his/her picture or suggest ways to improve the shot should you want to comment on someone's photo. Please do not go off topic.
- Don't post your pictures here if you are those weirdos who can't accept genuine critiques or comments on your pictures. You have been warned. This place is for everyone to share their view be it a compliment or critique on your photos and we don't want immature photographers crying like a little girl after getting some genuine comments.

Just want to share 1 of the photo i took during my Taiwan trip last 2 week. Even the photo didnt show significant landmark of Taiwan tongue.gif

I set my Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 lens to the widest end, use Aperture priority, dial to f11 in order to get the shutter speed that low enough to capture the motion move effect while going down from escalator in Taipei MRT station. The ISO i used is 100 in order to reduce noise in dark area.

Camera Model - Nikon D80
Lens - Tamron 17-50mm f2.8
Aperture - f11
Shutter Speed - 3s
ISO - 100

What do you mean by making it paint brush alike ?
It doesnt seems to look like paint brush at all , maybe you set the power/radius too low ?

OT : Mind to share the performance of the new VR lens ?

ermm.. it is like making it looks like painting..
ya..i set the brush to very detailed, and brush size quite small..
if bigger not so nice as lost much details edy..

u can see it on the tree's leaves area, original one is a sharp and clear..
and the sky also loh.. just abit only lah.. laugh.gif

about the VR lens,
it is good if not better than the original 18-55mm.
The VR performance is good, i can go as low as 1/5 without much problem.

Nice, but for this subject, since it's like "deadly", should play more one shadows I think. Put a few flashes and bounce it around for more effect.
How? How I know? keke..

Miserable dark rainy evening, everything dark n gloomy then this bird with really bright yellow beak n feet landed in front of me. Took this a few days ago.
I like it coz I dont know how to use Photoshop but I like those pics where ppl leave the main subject in color but B&W the rest of the pic. This pic is my natural version. biggrin.gif

Took this shot during Ching Ming. The smog from all the burning of offerings gave the yellowish cast and i further enhance it by adjusting the color temperature to give it a war zone feeling. A timely reminder to preserve our environment....

VK-edit: Follow the format given, don't swallow the aperture, iso, and shutter speed used! vmad.gif tongue.gif

Was shot with a pns so i dunno the aperture, iso, and shutter speed used ok i try but...

[b]Camera Model - nikon e7600
[b]Lens - built in
[b]Aperture - I am not sure
[b]Shutter Speed - auto
[b]ISO - auto

VK - i think the rules shouldnt be aplicable to pns or camera phone.

# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 10/2969 second = 1/296.9 second = 0.00337 second
# Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 48/10 = F4.8
# Exposure Program = normal program (2)
# ISO Speed Ratings = 50

Camera Model - Nikon e7600
Aperture - f4.8
Shutter Speed - 1/271s
ISO - 50

P&S and Prosumers are alright for me, but not cameraphones as we have another section dedicated for that smile.gif

There's always a proper ethical way to post in forums instead of using big red fonts, unless you're asking other forumers to shun you off

When first introed to PP, most people get carried away in my view, it's ok i guess. I worked for over 2 years with nothing but MSPaint, then everyone complain i sark so i take up PP, but at the same time i take over my minimalist tendencies to PPing.

His photo is pretty ok, much better than when i started out lah. Give em credit for that.

You want over PPed. lol here have some of mine.

empire23, truth be told, getting carried away in post processing is one thing, i fall for that old trick as well most of the time, you can make tonnes of layers and tweaks, but the main purpose is to make it barely noticable, so u ought to know when to stop. in your case of your so-called over pp-ed images, its hard to spot the proccessed parts (most noticable at edge/color transitions).

Giving credit is one thing, flaming is another thing. CnCs are a norm after being posted into forums, that dude/dudette should live with it. You know what I mean right?

Well, like i said lah, people get carried away because they think "WALAU WHE, I CAN DO LIKE PRO", it's a hard trap not to fall into. And some people tend to be defensive loh, you tell me my shots suck after i spending atleast a good 15k on this hobby and i'll bengang too.

Not justifying the dude's rudeness. But i guess i'm just pointing out probable reason why he's not happy/ticked off.

not really high key lah.. i just bounce the flash to the ceilings to bring down the shadows so that PP would be easier. and yeah, it will look better with empire23's awesome gear. glad u like it. Ted Adnan also gave good comments on it.

yea yea got... sorry forgot to include... but cpl introduces color banding when shot thru polymer. so have to be vy careful in turning the ring to get the least color banding.

Didn't use a Polarizer. Very little editing and generally just sharpened. Used the EF 50mm 1.2L to take the shot.

For other pics of mine that use a polarizer, i use the B+W MRC KSM FPro Polarizer.

Thanks razuryza, say if I have taken only one pic, and than manipulate the exposure thru pshop making it 3 pics, and then processed to HDR, will it work? In simple layman term, what does HDR do? sharpenning the image? or bringing different color? etc

Both of u n nairud..nice gorgeous pics.

HDR programs basically compares all the shots and aligns the pixels and creates a value which is about the median over the entire image. thus keeping the whole image in balance.

as for the 1 pic into 3 images, if your single pic doesnt have any blown out highlights or lost shadows... then your way can be used, since u cant 'create' missing pixels in there. if u get what i mean..

If that one pic is RAW, it's possible. But it's still better to take multiple exposure. HDR does what it stands for. Bringing out High Dynamic Range in your images so that you can see more details and colours in it.

Looks foggy/blur/misfocused. Are you using a tripod for this long 1/3s exposure? Built in IS won't help very much in this long exposure. As mentioned by da3shou3, WB seems incorrect and some details are lost due to overexposure. Aperture should be narrower in my opinion.

Yup. You gotta remember that what you see in human eyes most of the time will be different from what you snapped. You can get only one part of the photo captured with all the details while the rest in shadow, or blown out in highlights.

In order to get good details from the whole pic when the spots are not evenly lit up, you'll have to do multiple exposure and HDR processing. biggrin.gif

Sell off your SAL-75300 - 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 and get a Siggy 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro lens? biggrin.gif

If you plan to shoot macro with a telezoom lens, bring a tripod along in case your hand is not steady enough. Use high shutter speed, easiest way is just use 1/(the focal length that you use)

E.g. If you are shooting @ 300mm, make sure your shutter speed is above 1/300s.

Try not to shoot at the widest aperture, lower the aperture to have more clearer details of your macro subject.

In terms of metering, usually I'll start with partial or spot, then only go to center-weighted or evaluative if I didn't get the result I want.

If you want good bokeh, frame your subject so that the distance between the subject and background is far.

Nice efforts, at least no lens cap. biggrin.gif

#2 increase your shutter speed. 1/13s is not enough for you to shoot @ 200mm.

no IS mah. LOL. i ask my cousin to look at me, she was busy looking at the slide, waiting for a next round.

btw, i got guts to post the big size of it. if i post smaller size, the blur at the head won't look obvious.

Pardon me, I thought that IS is to prevent blurness from handshake and not to prevent blurness from subject movement?

You should bump ya shutter speed a little moar to freeze ya subject better.

Just a humble suggestion from me.

well back then on the lcd, everything looks pretty crisp to my eye. even when i zoom it out.

btw, i still like the picture despite all the comments here.

there goes the challenge if i were to 'bump' a little more shutter speed up.

icon_rolleyes.gif

btw, i've never handled an IS lens before. i just assume it could do better.

I never trust my pictures until I view em on my 22" LCD. I'm using IS lens myself, it only allows you to lower your shutter speed a little more but not freeze the subject's movement. Freezing the subject's movement can only be done by tuning the shutter speed.

Having said that, good effort there. smile.gif

well actually the bolded part goes without saying. plain common sense i know. but yeah, sometime, we get tensed up a little when kids dont follow our orders, and leave it to photoshop for the sharpening. nonetheless, thanx for the heads up. i knew i should have shot with other than the 50mm f1.8 for this pic.

i'd leave the fast autofocus part for better systems. this is all i can opt for at the moment. muchas gracias lord!

Sorry if you feel disgusted with this pic, I went out for dinner today, while having dinner this hungry creature was begging for some food. My camera was ready as I was looking for a shot to experiment and practice and click it became my model for the price of food it wanted. Sometimes I always find a beauty but neglect a 'being' so unfortunate. The only thing that hindering the shot was my amateurish photography especially in low light. Once upon a time the cat might have the photogenic traits.

Hi all! I'm no pro, and I'm new to the forums as well as photography, but since my dad got a new camera very recently, like last week, and passed me his old Pentax Optio E10, I have been taking a photo a day to document my life for 365 days.

There's a story behind this picture, or the subject in the picture.

I was visiting my husband in the United States, and was to leave on Valentine's Day back to Singapore due to travel visa issues. The week before, he was happily bouncing about the room, and when I asked why, he replied, "I don't know if I should give you your Valentine's Day gift now or later... what the heck, open it." with that big grin on his face. When I lifted it out of the box, I was surprised. And now that I have a new camera, I can finally take a picture of it.

It was a lavender jade pendant on a silver chain. Notice the middle of the pendant? It says prosperity in Chinese. Now, my Chinese name means "to adorn with jade" when translated, and when I asked him why he bought the pendant for me, he went, "Because one, I know what your Chinese name means, and that means 'to adorn with jade', two, I know you absolutely adore purple, and three, lavender is your favorite scent."

I cried. It was such a perfect gift.

I know the color is a little washed out and everything... I blame the lighting in my room. tongue.gif

LWilliam, sorry but to be frank when I first saw your pics posted earlier I thought they were nice but now I think you are a good photographer trapped in stereotypical style belong to many millions others before you (we always be tempted to call it our style). Seems that your pics look the same and can be seen in all commercial magazine style or travelling brochures, started to get boring even if your technical ability is good. Sorry ya, just a sincere comment from someone not good in photog. But before you slipped ... you even posted the beach scene in the competition thread called 'street' and argued you re within rules eventhough I know that deep inside you know. Vis a vis your pics still good.

I relate our photography scenario when I saw a KL fashion catwalk recently where models are generally having similar skin tone (from 10 theres only one from different race), color size and features unlike in Paris where Benetton not just means colors, but ours are mostly just the same mould (I didnt say ours ugly ya just too uniformed up till breast size and eye makeup). Its the same in food, movie industry and many others until we die off getting complacent and canibalising each other.

Back to photography, I think, having good technical ability is a bliss if theres good variations. Even in photoshop they have this function where you introduce 'noise' and thats for bringing creativity according to individual prespectives of art while 'noise' is dreaded in most photographers. Then again, I might be all wrong but I meant well.

Cheers.

I like the silhouette pictures, though like hanafinoor mentioned, it does seem a little stale after a while. You seem like you have great technique though and I like your framing.

Maybe stray a little from your usual?

hanafi, no worries, im open to C&C... in fact, thats the main reason i post my pics up here.

As a matter of fact i agree on your comment regarding me being a stereotypical photog. i guessed my style is majorly influenced by advert/poster pics. i'll try to keep an eye out for more scenes to shoot at, but i guess having my own style of photography isnt a bad thing either.

keep the C&Cs coming... really do appreciate them rclxms.gif

Thanks guys... clem, yeah, they're from the same series... in fact i still have 1 more yet to post up... i'll post it up after this reply.

prawn, personally, i like to frame my pics in the viewfinder and wait for the moment before pressing the shutter, that way, it feels more natural when it comes out onto the final image.

i guess i would try to stray once in a while... but hey, changes arent easy LOL... i'll try my best.. thanks everyone...

Mmm I have an idea , lets encouraged ppl to use software like opanda or ff plug-ins to find others exif, kind of modern feel and approach (good feel the right clicking) instead of tagging it everytime. Policing rules too tight sometimes kill off creativity and discouraged ppl to post more ideas....than again just my humble idea. Dont you think so.

but why would we wanna do that? its quite a hassle for everyone to do so. isnt it so much easier for the poster to include it in the post, instead of double/triple/quadruple/(u get what i mean) work of other readers?
furthermore, its stated in the rules anyway.

Maybe can try 3rd party macro lens. They are much cheaper than nikkor one.

Or you can buy a MSN202 but beware that it only has a very short working range (1 cm+/-). >_<

IMHO should give more DOF on this. The petals are abit soft due to the DOF too shallow.

Just my 2c.

Thank you very much for your comment and advised notworthy.gif . I just learned how to use angle shooting for macro.
Frankly, I am newbie and don't know how to control Depth Of Field. I use program priority for this pic.
Do you mean I should take this picture using Aperture priority and using higher aperture? icon_question.gif

it's ok if its underexposed, kindda give the natural light ambient of the scene, but try use higher iso to freeze the motion. wink.gif

but careful, high iso will also introduce noise and grains to the pictures, best is to get a tripod and shoot with your current settings with slightly higher exposure.

it's ok if its underexposed, kindda give the natural light ambient of the scene, but try use higher iso to freeze the motion.  wink.gif

u sure higher iso ? it's already 800. I'll suggest getting bigger aperture lens instead. f1.7 / f1.8

People like me has no skill... Solely depends on what the camera and lenses can do for me... And it happen that Canon 100-400 IS L can do 1/100 only... cry.gif

The Canon 100-400 IS L has limitation... If you use 1/60... The success rate of sharp picture will be less than half... or maybe even 1/3... I guess that's the old IS technology... sweat.gif

But as long as use the limitation of 1/100, then it is safe... At least it works for newbie like me... I am very stupid one... only depends on good camera or lenses to cover my lousy skill.... Well... At least it does work for me...! cool2.gif

user posted image

So for others that are also stupid or lazy to learn... but want to better pictures, can consider buying some lenses for dummies like the 100-400 IS L icon_rolleyes.gif thumbup.gif

Well... I guess stupid people has stupid solution after all... No need to know how it work... Just spend the money on the right stuff + make sure enought CF + make sure enought battery = settled ! icon_rolleyes.gif cool2.gif

the car is stunning, but can u get a clean background? just the car, backed with with clean shaded blue sky and make sure sunlight comes from where the shadows will give a creative look of the whole picture. Your take.

DUH. of course it's from panning. thevoip oso knows dat, anyway, high iso speed does freeze motion, and at iso100 it kindda defeat that purpose thus giving a less sharp picture of the foreground.

yup it's the panning, i used panning to give a bit of the moving feel. At the same time not too much panning to reserved some details of the background.
