maybe you should ask this in the strings family thread. laugh.gif

4 months, unless your foundations are solid, i wouldn't say it's enough to prepare 3 songs for average student.

Just bought my first 88-key keyboard... The Korg M50... Now waiting for my Ultimate V-stand to come in...

Really cool board! Build quality is pretty impressive for an assembles in China product...

Hey guise,

Wanna ask, how many grades are there in Piano? Grade 8 or Grade 10? In order to complete all grades, how long will it takes? 2 years?

I'm currently looking for a music shop that provides piano lesson. Yamaha is one of them, if you guise have any other suggestions, please shoot.

Totally is eight grades. All depends on your progression. If you cope it well, you can skip some grades when you are lower than grade 5.

Have you completed all grades?

ABRSM certificate, is it recognized? If I've completed 8 grades, will I be quality to be a music teacher?

I had completed the whole grades from ABRSM. You are qualified to be a music teacher if you have completed the 8 grades. One of my friends and my cousin are a music teacher recently. They have not finished grade 8 yet. My cousin is still struggle at there. However, they are not teaching high grades like 6, 7 and 8. I think it is because of their maturity in music and experience. ABRSM certificate is recognised. However, if you get Diploma certificate from Trinity, it is accredited by relevant regulatory bodies in England, Nothern Ireland and Wales as well as a number of countries around the world. This is what I know.

Do you mean Diploma course or grade 1 to 8? I have not take Trinity Grade 1 to 8 course before. I think you can skip some grades when you are lower than Grade 5 like ABRSM even though it is offered by Trinity.

So how long it took you to finish all grades? And how much have you spent? I'm trying to plan my budget now to complete all grades and also the duration. Need to plan properly.

I stared to learn piano since 7 years old. I took my Grade 1 examination when I was 8 years old. When I was in Form 2, I finished my Grade 8 course. About the budget I cannot said much about that since the examination fee is more expensive now. Anyway, the examination fee will be more expensive when you achieve to higher grade. Practical fee is comparatively cheaper than theory fee. The only thing I remember is my Grade 8 examination fee is around RM 340. The piano lesson fee will depend to your teacher.

7 years to complete all grades? If I put more effort into, can I shorten the duration ah? Let say maybe in 2 - 3 years? Will that be possible? All 8 grades.

Grade 8 Examination fee RM340 = ABRSM certificate? In the certificate, it will state that you've completed from grade 1 to 8?

All depends on your progression. Hence, you can shorten the duration. In my opinion, I think it is quite impossible for you to finish the 8 grades within 2 to 3 years. This is for non-music background. Even though you have music background, it is still hard. It depends on your teacher too. If he or she do not want you to skip, you cannot do anything. Furthermore, your fingers are not nimble anymore. You can skip very fast when you are in grade 1 to 5. When you reach to grade 6 to 8, your progression will slower. You need to cope well in practical and theory in the same time. Grade 8 examination fee is not equal to ABRSM certificate. It is only for your Grade 8 certificate. Therefore, it will not state that you have completed from grade 1 to 8. It only state that you have pass, achieve merit or distinction for Grade 8. I want to remind you again. I think nowadays Grade 8 examination fee is not RM 340 anymore. The examination fee will increase.
