Now with MSN you might face some problems such as frequent disconnection. Yes , maxis does give their WBB users an External Dynamic IP Address (not an internal one). This allows you to use rapidshare , IRC and other stuff as IP is truly dynamic
thanks for answer. how about normal surfing? is it fast or you have to wait seconds for lowyat forum to load?

Latency is the key factor here. It takes approx ~0.11 seconds to ping lowyat as opposed to streamyx ~0.02 seconds. So sites do take some time to load. As for downloads , its fairly fast. Overall you shouldn't be facing any problems for surfing and general stuff. Its just that the modem is crappy and maxis broadband is crappy as opposed to their Maxis unlimited internet. Both of them are on different ip range (For maxis unlimited data its not 58.<can't remember>.x.x and for maxis broadband the range would be 121.120.x.x). Oh as for XDCC (DIRECT transfer) , maxis has blocked that as well

hey how about downloading stuff from rapidshare (premium user)
is it ok in term of the speed?
I do believe Maxis is still the fastest if you download stuff from RS as a premium member. I get about 300 kbs MAX, and about 150 average using download managers (with burst download). But that is only when maxis doesn't f*** up.

Maxis = pathethic.

Hello, since everyone here is using Celcom wireless broadband, i would like to gather some feedback from you guys before deciding which service that i would like to get (either celcom or maxis). Could you guys comment about Celcom wireless on the following:

1) connectivity
2) speed
3) coverage (i always travel to Kelantan, Perak, Penang, Melaka and KL)
4) customer service when lodging complains.

please comment.

1) Pretty much it is okay. Its pretty straight forward and maxis assigns you dynamic IP which is way better then celcom !

2) You can't say this for wireless as speed isn't constant and it will never be constant all. Its hard to judge. But i can assure that so far , the speed is good (I can download stuff around 60-80 kilobytes/sec and sometimes it can hit up to 250 kilobytes/sec

3) Whoops , Maxis doesnt cover Kelantan yet for 3G. You might be forced to use EDGE or GPRS. Slower speed but it gets you connected anyway

4) Superb what can I say. They are polite , thats about it. they dont really know in and out of networking but they are pretty polite !

What package are you on? It includes the modem? Maybe you should make official complain to them, record your complains, then make official complain to MCMC. If their service doesn't meets the minimum requirement, MCMC will take action on Maxis and you might not have to pay them RM200. There's a thread somewhere here that guides on complain to MCMC.

To get the wavier of the fees do the following :-

1) Write to mr.darshan or MCMC and complain the speed is slow and say that your pings aren't stable. Facing disconnections and other crap. Include screenshots and trace route results as this will boost them. CC one to maxis

2) Maxis should call you up and follow up on the issue

3) Wait again and then write to maxis and say you're unhappy with the sevice and request for the service waiver

4) Pray that they'll waive. iF THEY don't just send a complain to mcmc again

It works !

I think we should complain about Maxis big fat white lie "No contract period". They just changed the term to "handling fees" to mislead unwary customer...who wants to complain to mcmc? Or maybe just write to the Star?

Thanks..previously i was looking at the USB modem only...looks like those package applies for the ZTE modem only?

So the small USB modem is much expensive than the ZTE modem i suppose!

RM 68/RM 98 package is meant for the ZTE Modem. I'll have to tell you that its not worth it to use maxis , unless you're just into surfing only
