Call me blur la .. but as alrdy known software is limited ( I hv a handful of 6.1 dts es discrete ttls which are true 6.1 ; de ddex is a matrixed software..) n mostly its ur avr doin de dsp's to get back surr sound from wat surr signals there are in ur discs n talkin from hindsight its not worth de extra expense to go 7.1 fr 5.1( wif extra cablin n 2 extra spkrs ) I think it would be better spendin on better surr spkrs n more clean/true power ..

Stereo to 5.1 is a great improvement but 5.1 to 7.1 - I think maybe 10% better at most..

But of cos tats just me la

I am running a 6.1 setup (old) since DVD only has 6.1 channel at most. If more movies coming up in 7.1 BD, then I will buy a pair for my 7.1.

I do have a few 6.1 disc. I guess LOTR extended ver are the best DTS-ES by far

Basically 7.1 means two surround backs instead of 1 surround back, izzit? Currently, I'm just running 6.1 (6 speakers & 1 sub).

Yes. Since DVD has only 6.1 (max). I didnt bother abt it. But, if BD does come up wt more titles wtih 7.1, then I will seriously consider.

A 7.1 setup will thrash a 6.1 setup (tak yah cakap). But, it takes up more space and I guess it's worth it since you have better surround ambience.

The 7.1 sound used by BD movies are not discrete, right? Meaning the two surround backs are only matrixed and not discrete. Am I correct? This is because I went to check the specs for Yammy's RX-V3800, the surround backs are not discrete even it supports 7.1 lossless audio so will we have future amps that can do 7.1 discrete? hmm.gif

should be 7 discrete surround channels for the audio codecs..

maybe yammy amp design limitation rather than source..?

Wat moral? U hv to make ur own conclusions on whether its worth goin 7 from 5.. I m only stating tat IMO I'd stop at 5 good bookshelves plus a good sub.. More doesnt neccesarily mean better..

Yes, that's what I read about it. It should be 7.1 discrete surr channels; not matrixed for rear surr

bi-polar speakers?! Are you sure? Wouldn;t be a bit too 'overly' spread if use 2 pairs of bi-pole spkrs?

I thought bi-pole spkrs are only recommended if it's a 5.1 setup. No?

Bi-polar speakers very syiok I tell you, the rears sounded more expansive and lively. I don't mind getting another pair if it's needed for 7.1 but frankly, I don't care what the experts say. Even THX certification means nothing to me, most important that I like the sound cukup ler. I'm not a Hi-Fi purist anyway so I'll just buy whatever I hear is nice.

I have tried the AAD bi-pole speakers. Yes, it does help in making it more expansive effect but a little 'overchoke' esp for DTS-ES6.1 encoded discs.

At the end, didnt buy to upgrade my KEF standmount spkrs. It just aint my cup of coffee.
