The cabinet of the Rogers speaker made by MDF
I am not sure on Jamo...but the saleman claimed made from solid wood.
I read the Jamo webpage...their similar subwoof also made from MDF...

Solid wood vs MDF...is it important to take into consideration

I have listen both ...i feel the Rogers look good with the their subwoofer for movie....music...ok also
the Jamo set is ok also.......
I worried the Jamo was made from China....which a lot of people claim will have bad QC

I am new to HT....wanna to purchase one unit....my budget ~ 3K
Please help to advise....any model in the market comparable with above Jamo or Rogers unit

Thanks in advance for advise

Hi,

True wood cabinetry for spkrs are rare n very expensive.. usually in de 5fig regions for a pair of floorstanders (at least) .. think sonus or de higher model thiels .. all budget spkrs use mdf, de one u wanna choose is de thicker n sturdier de internal bracin, de better which translates to wt or de heavier de better.. even de outside skin is usually sum cheap stick one stuff, if its real wood veneer itll look much better..

I think u should just go audition wat ur budget allow or maybe look at a pair first wif de rcvr n then add on when u hv de cash..

I oso suggest u look used .. for good spkrs last a long time n a decent used one usually still hv sum life left.. I hv 3 sets of floorstanders which only de frist set is bought new(abt 10yrs ago) n tats becos I didnt know better .. my subsequent systems all hv used spkrs - Tannoy n Paradigms flrstndrs - bought at least 4yrs ago n still going strong..

Cheers

Haha,

IMO.. unless u hv a huge room, there really is not much to gain in goin 7.1 from 5.1..

7.2 speaks from a 6.1 avr user

Call me blur la .. but as alrdy known software is limited ( I hv a handful of 6.1 dts es discrete ttls which are true 6.1 ; de ddex is a matrixed software..) n mostly its ur avr doin de dsp's to get back surr sound from wat surr signals there are in ur discs n talkin from hindsight its not worth de extra expense to go 7.1 fr 5.1( wif extra cablin n 2 extra spkrs ) I think it would be better spendin on better surr spkrs n more clean/true power ..

Stereo to 5.1 is a great improvement but 5.1 to 7.1 - I think maybe 10% better at most..

But of cos tats just me la

I am running a 6.1 setup (old) since DVD only has 6.1 channel at most. If more movies coming up in 7.1 BD, then I will buy a pair for my 7.1.

I do have a few 6.1 disc. I guess LOTR extended ver are the best DTS-ES by far

I run 7.2 spkrs but only a 6.1avr which has 2 powered back outputs (in mono)..

Oh I donno .. de xmen3 se2disc is pretty good, so is de titanic ee 3 disc ones n top gun se 2 disc set.. I guess all tis ttls have in common is tat when it comes to sp efx, they make full use of audio to make de impact felt..

Wat moral? U hv to make ur own conclusions on whether its worth goin 7 from 5.. I m only stating tat IMO I'd stop at 5 good bookshelves plus a good sub.. More doesnt neccesarily mean better..

All nos can be rigged to look good.. just like cars la can give 220hp @ 8krpms but if u look at torq fig its like 200 @ 5krpms or sumthin - when u drive its like u wanna race all de time.. Ok back to spkrs.. I hv seen really great figs on midi compos too but it dont mean they sound great n de cabinetry sucks oso..

BTW if it sounds good yanked up wif extended listenin, then its good stuff.. oh ya I dunno but at certain price pt de cabinets should look it too.. but tats just me la .. others might differ..
