I've never own any above 30khz...mine untill 25khz nia so no comment but I've seen some the spec said 50hz - 50khz...dunno true or not...
*
I think anything above 20khz won't be noticeable since our human ears can only hear up to 20khz but that depends on our age, as we get older, our hearing range will decrease so uncompressed PCM might sound just like normal DD track. Better enjoy while we are young, if not later old liao, DD and DTS also sound the same. doh.gif

QUOTE(htkaki @ Mar 20 2008, 04:16 PM)
why aims for those high frequency when our ears cant? I would prefer the speakers to be able to go low. If possible, lower than 35Hz. But, pricey
*
Most good floorstanders can do around 30hz to 35hz like that, anything lower than that, can only be achieved with the help of a subwoofer.

I guess decent subs can do at least 26HZ, the lower the better. I guess I'm used to the bass generated by REL and Velodyne subs, really convincing and power. rclxms.gif

wats with this reon? if im not upscaling any source, then no poitn rite?
*
Well, the Reon processor is used in Denon's high end dvd players but if a Denon high end dvd player is priced around RM6K plus, then getting an Onkyo receiver will be much more worth it for the price.

I am running a 6.1 setup (old) since DVD only has 6.1 channel at most. If more movies coming up in 7.1 BD, then I will buy a pair for my 7.1.

I do have a few 6.1 disc. I guess LOTR extended ver are the best DTS-ES by far
*
Basically 7.1 means two surround backs instead of 1 surround back, izzit? Currently, I'm just running 6.1 (6 speakers & 1 sub).

Pray hard that more movies will be encoded in 7.1
*
The 7.1 sound used by BD movies are not discrete, right? Meaning the two surround backs are only matrixed and not discrete. Am I correct? This is because I went to check the specs for Yammy's RX-V3800, the surround backs are not discrete even it supports 7.1 lossless audio so will we have future amps that can do 7.1 discrete? hmm.gif

should be 7 discrete surround channels for the audio codecs..

maybe yammy amp design limitation rather than source..?
*
QUOTE(htkaki @ Apr 7 2008, 04:14 PM)
Yes, that's what I read about it. It should be 7.1 discrete surr channels; not matrixed for rear surr
*
That one I dunno ler .......... wait till I get the amp end of this month baru I tau. If it really can support 7.1 discrete channels leh ....... I guess I need to order another pair of Wharfedale's bi-polar speakers. sweat.gif

bi-polar speakers?! Are you sure? Wouldn;t be a bit too 'overly' spread if use 2 pairs of bi-pole spkrs?

I thought bi-pole spkrs are only recommended if it's a 5.1 setup. No?
*
Bi-polar speakers very syiok I tell you, the rears sounded more expansive and lively. I don't mind getting another pair if it's needed for 7.1 but frankly, I don't care what the experts say. Even THX certification means nothing to me, most important that I like the sound cukup ler. I'm not a Hi-Fi purist anyway so I'll just buy whatever I hear is nice.

I have tried the AAD bi-pole speakers. Yes, it does help in making it more expansive effect but a little 'overchoke' esp for DTS-ES6.1 encoded discs.

At the end, didnt buy to upgrade my KEF standmount spkrs. It just aint my cup of coffee.
*
Well, bi-polar speakers need to have proper placement and they need space to breath too plus you need to do some tweaking from the AVR so that they will sound even much better. Honestly, it did improve the soundstage of my setup.

i also interested in bi-pole speakers but haven't got a chance to demo it myself... got real difference from normal speakers? night and day diff?

is this considered a bi-pole speakers?
http://www.axiomaudio.com/qs4_info.html

cost around RM1300 + shipping to here...

wanna add 2 more speakers! hehe smile.gif
*
Apis,

Yup, they're considered bi-pole speakers. Some ppl dun like bi-pole speakers as they diffuse the sound, they prefer downfiring rear speakers but diffuse sound is more natural and it's the way intended by movie makers. It sounds more natural and expansive. You can do an A to B comparison before making your decision.

my house got 1 set whafaDIU bipole surround

not day n night difference la

but got better also  rolleyes.gif

Which model you're using? They're one with Kevlar drivers one for their bi-pole speakers, the bass is more geng even driven hard.

As I've mentioned placement of the speakers are important to get the best sound if compared to normal surround speakers but no regrets despite all the hassles. I wanted to buy B&W DS6 bi-poles last time but at RM4K, I nearly fainted, now discontinued pulak, the latest model pulak around RM6K. doh.gif Damn ....

ya...my whafediu all kelvar.... diamon8 series

B&W bipole??

yeah yeah

the price always very "NICE" also

wat speakers u using now bro ??
*
B&W speakers are really nice and I'm happy with the sound but when I wanted to buy the B&W bi-pole speakers, they said discontinued liao but the new model is available and the price more than my Full HD LCD. doh.gif

The only thing I don't like about B&W is their subwoofers, overpriced and too tame, still prefer something like REL and Velodyne.

QUOTE(htkaki @ Apr 9 2008, 10:48 PM)
At that time, B&W bi-poles are almost same price with KEF Q bi-poles and Klipsch bi-poles. Now..... *sigh*
*
Yup, my friend already stopped selling B&W speakers b'coz the price went up so high and furthermore, some are made in China, mana ada orang mau beli. At least my B&W speakers are all made in UK and they can be driven real hard without any cracking sound. Damn impressive. Luckily I bought them early, if not, now also cannot afford lah.

so if i find used and vintage b&w, its worth to buy?
*
The answer is a big yes if you find a good pair of used B&Ws. There are imported B&W speakers from the UK but according to my friend, you have to pay more than RM10K for a pair based on the current prices. B&W speakers are not that expensive in the UK, our local distributor goreng the price and blamed it on the British Pounds, macam-macam punya excuses pun ada.

If RM2K++ too mahal liao ........ unless can nego less than RM2K then maybe lah ... you know hi-fi speakers lah, if I trade in aje, I already loose at least 50% of the market value.

The specs don't mean anything to me, most important we personally audition them and we'll know whether the speakers are up to your expectations.

If not mistaken, it is Wo Kee Hong, the same distributor for Denon and Marantz.

Mega, whose setup is that?  sweat.gif

I can double confirm this, Rogers memang distributed by Wo Kee Hong.

what's wrong with your speakers?

if driver cone broken, v expensive to repair.

If the speaker surrounds are broken, those can be replaced but if the voice coil is fried, you gotta change a new driver and yup, pretty expensive.
