zstan - Google up Penang Heritage and see which site you wan to take picta. Make sure you check 1st can take picta or not. Bring extra batteries and flash. Suggest you visit Penang Nyonya Museum.

Around kek lok si have plenty of choices of food. See my siggy for Penang Food.

If you like durian drive to Balik Pulau in the morning for the local fruits in season. Have Lemak laksa & wash down with fresh white nutmeg juice!

Tune Hotel is good, if only able to get their special rates.

Faezl - HERE is a listing.
Do call for the latest rates and availability.

no.. no car .. heard that the traffic in penang is not so good so decided against it.

assam and laksa juice found together? the location's just nice as it's location south of my farm trips.
anything else to see in that town? after travelling down from BF, i'm not sure to head back there, then to Gurney or head northeast to the Kek Lok Si area (then making my way BACK to BF)
if it's the latter, then it will be a rush, no? because if i do that, i'll probably head to penang hill.. they are so close together!

hmm.. or maybe i should head to queensbay area. but it's so far from BF! hmm.gif

i'm a follower of your thread! are there seafood places recommended there though? looks like i'll have to dig deeper! laugh.gif

If no car then how are you getting about in Penang? hmm.gif

assam laksa and juice found together? Yes.
You could also drive to the new Balik Pulau market for food & nutmeg juice plus jeruk (preserved stuff like papaya, nutmeg) and balacan.
In Balik Pulau, no much for the casual tourist to see except some old Nyonya houses. BTW it's now the durian, mangosteen & rambutaan season till the end of the month.
Suggest you leave your hotel before 8am and drive towards Teluk Bahang Dam direction to Titi Kerawang then Balik Pulau for Brunch. From there via Tun Surdon (do stop at the R&R, if time permit) to Jln Paya Terubong and Ayer Itam Kek Lok Si. No worries if you skip Penang Hill. At Ayer Itam you can have late lunch or early dinner.

Seafood Places? wat's your poison? laugh.gif
My concern is your transport, dunno how you get around?

To be honest, that's a good question! rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif But public buses ply this area, no? Although i must say that the routes on the Rapid Penang site seem pretty complicated :sweat :
and taxi are rare in those areas?
other than that relatively inaccessible location that is Balik Pulau, i think getting around in Georgetown is pretty convenient..

I kinda planned out my route for the the hawker food mentioned here .. generally it stretches from Jalan Burma and into Jalan Penang.. main mode of transport would be on foot..

As for seafood, Sea Pearl Lagoon Seafood came up in the food forum. That seems pretty good.. and near Batu F too..

If time is not an issue, take bus, BF to Teluk Bahang[101/102], Teluk Bahang to Balik Pulau[501]. Choice of
return via Georgetown, take bus Balik Pulau to Pengkalan Weld[401], then back to BF[101].

Otherwise, hire a taxi, the rate is RM25/hour, including waiting time, minimum 4hrs.

Yes, time will be of no issue. I will be here for 6 days  rclxm9.gif
Where exactly will the bus stop at Balik Pulau? I guessing that once there, cabs will be few and far in between .. am i right?

QUOTE(,Jun 20 2011, 10:33 PM)

I'm doubt that there'll be taxi at Balik Pulau, you could walk around the town easily. Ask the bus driver to let you alight at the pekan- basically, it's just one main street where the laksa/nutmeg juice is, and a row of old shophouses, and the small roundabout. The bus terminal itself, is at Jalan Tun Sardon, 5.351350, 100.239703, next to it, is the Market Complex where you can buy local products like belachan, shrimp paste, nutmeg oil, keropok and jeruk. If you alight at the bus terminal, it's about 450m to walk back to the main Jalan Balik Pulau.

I'd suggest that you get hold of the Rapid Penang customer service's phone number, you could call and ask when is the next bus coming if you waited too long.

Without car, you could probably just cover the Balik Pulau town, and not the rural area. Btw, the laksa stall that is next to the Old Market closes on Wednestday.
