Cendul at Penang Road - Phua Chu Kang EAT EAT ONWARDS
*
Click here for map and direction for Cendol off Penang Rd

Added on December 28, 2009, 2:02 pmAfter the Wat Chayamankalaram & Dharmikarama Burmese Temple.

Dinner @ Tree Shade Restaurant? << This if I'm not mistaken is opposite the Ferry Terminal & QEII(drinks & disco)

Suggest since you are in the vicinity of Pulau Tikus, after the Burmese Temple, visit the Pulau Tikus Market for the local hawker fare. If you take pork, try the pork satay (plain meat or intestine) with potato sauce. Less than a handful stall serve this sauce. Try it before it vanish into history.
Walk around all the other stalls, before you sit down.

Try Tunes Hotel as mentioned, but I think it may be too late as most Hotel especially the reasonable ones will be fully booked for the CNY period.

Hello, i plan to go penang during CNY too, may i know the traffic situation during CNY?
*
Not mean to be rude but please do NOT come!
CNY and Raya, my family travels to KL to enjoy.
1st: find parking banyak senang liao
2nd: when got parking, go down shop NO need to wait for table
3rd: got table riao when order NO need to wait long long
4th: food very siok!
5th: price although mahal, it is comparable to normal CNY Penang's price..... laugh.gif

QUOTE(stimix @ Jan 10 2010, 11:42 AM)
..FUUUUU..Klang valley that time also got no such pricing!!
*

thumbup.gif

BTW on the way to KL via PLUS, we see the long jams going to Ipoh and Penang. Pity those poor folks paying toll (which may increase), wasting petrol and time stuck in traffic. And to think these folks will be doing the same thing on the return trip. sad.gif

Best is you plan for the March schools holiday, it is more sane.

"My choice is lamb rendang, curry fi$h, $quid and $quid egg."
The last 3 are 'super expensive'
BTW was it ikan bawal?
PS Like your blogg, but how come no feature SP beef soup or steam rice roasted pork place. Think there are many interesting eateries in SP but maybe no more in existence, cos long time ago? hmm.gif
QUOTE(stimix @ Jan 12 2010, 09:32 AM)
Actually Line clear will be my 1st & last liao...Kenot stand the smell of longkang & also the running rats...worst during raining....Nothing great about the food...
*
laugh.gif One man's meat is another man's poison.
Yup don't like the smell, rats, dust and heat, which is why I always have take-away. Mostly fish curry with bendi(2pcs), chicken curry and ayam madu(2pcs). Cost about RM16 which is enough to be share by 4 persons.

Sorry I went there like 20 years ago, so now i also don't know where exactly are these places anymore. Last year went to SP, thought of having lunch at these places but got lost and due to tight schedule went to Prai for dinner instead. Was wondering if these place will be in your blogg?

Beside the Tune Hotel, most budget motel/budget hotel to stay for less than 100 a night are located in the inner city. There are a few scatted else where but not conducive unless you have your own car.
Here are 2 links you can checkout. Call them to confirm the rate as their banner says less than RM100 but their website says more.

Wow such a huge jump from RM99 to RM280 for CNY!!!!

During Chinese New Year, do NOT come to Penang. It is waste of money, time and effort...

Do visit Penang during March School holiday which is just a month after CNYor any other time other than CNY. In March many shops still have the CNY deco up and they have clearance sales for the CNY stuff.

After visiting Bangkok, Penang Oh Chien is nothing! The Oh is too fine already.

Yup that Penang Batu Lancang Market Food Court has many bestest!
Seafood Char Koay Kak
Nyonya Kueh
Chinese Pasembor aka Cheh Hoo in Hokkien
Penang Chee Cheong Fun
Fried Keoy Teow with duck egg
Hua chee & Ham Chim Peng
.......

And at night the Choo Char is cheap and good! (Try fish head wine & kachang botol in sambal with prawns)
Go early on Sat & Sun.

Had diarrhea and vomit after that!
I'm more confident with Bee Hooi's Popiah, Pulau Tikus.

Ayer Itam laksa is a personal preference. Sometime when I missed that fried mini spring roll I will go for the laksa opposite Penang Chinese Girls High school.
Mini Fried spring roll with Laksa soup...mmmmmm sedap nya! laugh.gif

You like nature a lot?  You should visit the Penang National Park, at Teluk Bahang.  There are walking trails to Pantai Kerachut, Muka Head etc.  The latest addition there is the Canopy Walk.

+1 thumbup.gif

You can also arrange for a boat to take you to muka head where the light house is. Don't forget to make arrangement for the return trip, if you are not planning to hike back.
If you are really the adventurous type, you can hike from Moon gate to Balik Pulau! Please get a map and GPS. Travel early morning, stock up correctly and ensure everyone hike together!

Have anyone tried a Thai Restaurant named 'Yellow Dot'. It is in Jalan Fettes on the way to Tg.Bungah via the reservoir road. Many years ago, this was just a semi D house where the wife of this man cooks very authentic Thai dishes for the locals. You have to pre book and order  to dine. I chanced upon it when I heard from the locals but I was served what other guest was having. Nice ! thumbup.gif
A few years back I pass by again and it has turn into a full fledged restaurant with signboard. I wonder if the restaurant is still around, anyone from Penang?
*
Yup still there but never eat there for many moons now, btw it is Yellow Light.

There is a big parking space beside Fort Cornwallis. See the picture. Try parking as close as possible to the clock tower.

Tanjung Bungah food not as good since they change the Chef and GM. But think for a company event it will do.

Have you consider Pearl Island Resort in Sg Ara?

Hi,

Will be going to Penang next weekend, is there any place (prefer Bayan Lepas area, else further also can) with sea side bistro to sit back, relax & chill, having some wine, enjoying the breeze of the wind & listening to the sound of waves?
*
Don't think there is one. The closest to enjoying the breeze of the wind & listening to the sound of waves, right next to a very secluded beach, AND good seafood is Hai Boey, Gertak Sanggul, but bring your own wine or liqueur. laugh.gif

hi to those penang experts,

i need some advise on d road direction.
i coming from taiping & going to gurney drive..
i google online map..advise to turn to Jln Tunku kudin after d jelutong road... Q; can i just ignore it & drive straight using d jelutong expressway (i assume it got based on d map from bookstore)..then till d end baru turn in to those small roads.

cos d last time i been to penang is ages jor...so really appreciated your help. tq!  notworthy.gif
*

Jelutong Xpressway is shorter but if you are unfamiliar with the one way small and congested roads, better use the Greenlane aka Jln mesjid negeri-Scotland Rd-Jln Utama-Jln Gottlieb route.
Once on the Greenlane, you only go straight following the road, go straight thru all traffic light except when to come to the junction of Jln Utama- Jln Gottlieb. This one you turn right and proceed straight till you see Sunrise tower which have Pizza/McD restaurant.
See google map.
