Oh, gama is old? I see.. Probably more interested in clothes, and food though.

I will be travelling with my folks, so thinking of bringing them to the Tropical Fruit Farm. Is this place worth the time?
*
Komtar is run down and slowly dying.
Gama is old but still ok as a small town dept store.

If your folks likes durian and tropical fruits, next few weeks is the right time to visit Balik Pulau for durian, mangosteen, rambutans and Lemak/Assam Laksa wash down with freshly extract white nutmeg juice. laugh.gif

The new (?) IT centre in Komtar just beside 1st Ave also OK very quiet & lotsa empty stalls too. Is it the largest IT mall in Penang?
*

Nope! And it is not the largest IT Mall in Penang!
Maybe the largest EMPTY IT Mall in Pg.
QUOTE(stimix @ Jun 6 2011, 11:01 AM)
BTW, the list should include Penang Times Square. probably the most nicely designed Malls & condo/ serviced condo in Georgetown? - But too many empty lots inside and dunno why the Sunshine City supermarket located in such a hulu-hulu 4th flr.. For new visitor, finding this supermarket probably a headache haha
*

Sunshine Group got a so called super duper good deal to be there but I dunno how long can they tahan to open without customer!
Penang Times Square - ho kua but boh ho chiak. - nice looking place but can't do business. Very bad accessibility and located in a congested part of town.

balik pulau sounds like a great place to go! Another forumer recommended this place for it's fruit farms too. It seems far flung from the city centre though. Did you drive there yourself, and how long did it take?

And are there many fruit farms there? Any recommendations? searched the web but results were quite generic.
*
There are many fruits farms but very few are open to public or able to entertain tourist.
The fruit farms are not very far most are within half an hour drive from the city (if no jam or landslides or heavy rain) laugh.gif

If you wan to just buy the local fruits, you can go to Balik Pulau market or Anjung Indah.
Currently it is durian season in Balik Pulau, so the Anjung Indah, name of Balik Pulau Lookout point, is having temporary stall selling durian there.

Place you should visit :

Fort Cornwalis (Padang Kota)
Toy Museum (Tanjung Bungah) - not advisable
Penang Hill
Chowrasta Market (Jeruk)
Batu Feringghi (night market)
Hard Rock Cafe
War Museum
Gurney Esplande (hawker stall food) - Tourist trap - expensive and bo ho ciak!
Strait Quay (tanjong tokong)
*
zstan - Google up Penang Heritage and see which site you wan to take picta. Make sure you check 1st can take picta or not. Bring extra batteries and flash. Suggest you visit Penang Nyonya Museum.

Around kek lok si have plenty of choices of food. See my siggy for Penang Food.

If you like durian drive to Balik Pulau in the morning for the local fruits in season. Have Lemak laksa & wash down with fresh white nutmeg juice!

no.. no car .. heard that the traffic in penang is not so good so decided against it.

assam and laksa juice found together? the location's just nice as it's location south of my farm trips.
anything else to see in that town? after travelling down from BF, i'm not sure to head back there, then to Gurney or head northeast to the Kek Lok Si area (then making my way BACK to BF)
if it's the latter, then it will be a rush, no? because if i do that, i'll probably head to penang hill.. they are so close together!

hmm.. or maybe i should head to queensbay area. but it's so far from BF!  hmm.gif

i'm a follower of your thread! are there seafood places recommended there though? looks like i'll have to dig deeper! laugh.gif
*
If no car then how are you getting about in Penang? hmm.gif

assam laksa and juice found together? Yes.
You could also drive to the new Balik Pulau market for food & nutmeg juice plus jeruk (preserved stuff like papaya, nutmeg) and balacan.
In Balik Pulau, no much for the casual tourist to see except some old Nyonya houses. BTW it's now the durian, mangosteen & rambutaan season till the end of the month.
Suggest you leave your hotel before 8am and drive towards Teluk Bahang Dam direction to Titi Kerawang then Balik Pulau for Brunch. From there via Tun Surdon (do stop at the R&R, if time permit) to Jln Paya Terubong and Ayer Itam Kek Lok Si. No worries if you skip Penang Hill. At Ayer Itam you can have late lunch or early dinner.

Seafood Places? wat's your poison? laugh.gif
My concern is your transport, dunno how you get around?
