Hi I will travel to Penang by bus. Is Gurney Drive within walking distance from Tune Hotels? Thanks
*
The distance is about 2km to Gurney Drive. And a further 2km to the Gurney Drive Hawker center or Gurney Plaza shopping center.

I expect jam packed crowd in Penang this weekend.
Most hotels are fully booked for the weekend.
Don't know what's the reason.

Could it be cos Monday August 1st is Awal Ramadhan? hmm.gif

1. Can anyone recommend hotel that is around the capital city?
Somemore budget around rm60-150?
Preferably 3-4 star as we just a student?
*
No have you budget at 3-4 star. At your budget mostly 1-2 Star in the Georgetown.

5 ppl difficult to travel in taxi unless really small size. Any budget for car rental ...any valid license to drive? Public transport ok is you dun mind waiting and long duration of travel.

What are you/your ppl interest? Halal or not?

But we don't know the budget of the car rental....we have valid license to drive, but we don't know the roads in Penang...
We are interest in sigh-seeing, shopping and eating....
We prefer non-Halal....smile.gif

Can u suggest more recommendation?

StarCandy / (Dackson) Car rental is about RM140 per day inclusive of insurance. If have garmin GPS then very easy.
What time you arrived in Penang? by Bus or flight?
You check-in 1st or wat? If early after check in you do the heritage walk then lunch - Nasi kandar there?

Wat you wan to shop in Penang? Biscuit, belacan or local preserved nutmeg? laugh.gif

Wat time must you leave Penang?

*
do the Georgetown heritage trail in the morning.
Drop by the Straits quay in the evening for very nice dinning if you like crispy pork knuckle + Hoegaarden. if not you can skip this place. No worries!

After 9pm, a bit further down Chulia St., near the junction of Carnarvon street, opposite 7Eleven, there are a few hawkers selling CKT, Penang won ton mee and Penang Curry Mee on the road side.
Note it is very crowded, if you dun mind waiting.

There are night spots that are drinking (teh tarik and alcohol), socializing and dancing.
There are night clubs gambling and GRO types.

For the former you can try Upper Penang Road around Hotel Continental(see map on post #1905).
The other type I dunno. laugh.gif

Is Holiday Inn a good place to stay for its price or is there one with better value? Saw at Agoda the rates are about RM320 per night and have searched at various sites for reviews and many are giving thumbs up for its cleanliness and comfort.

However Hydro Hotel caught my attention at much cheaper rates but reviews are also saying that a lot of old furniture and prepare to expect some musky smell also.

Help anyone? hmm.gif

Quite true. If book holiday inn try get the sea front building.
