any suggestions for the hotels near the beach?

yes, i will drive there..

2 nights..
but as dark nite said that penang will be badly congested, might change plan to the next coming week  doh.gif
*
If you stay at Batu Ferringhi beach area, you will be crawling all the way for your re-union dinner reach there at 9pm then crawl all the way back to your hotel, reaching at 1am! rclxub.gif
So if you came, just eat & play nearby.

.... Penang is still using the coin parking meter and if I park at a lot then realize that the coin meter is not working.  Should I just leave it or find a lot with a workable coin meter.  Will I get a parking fine if the coin meter is not working?
*

You must have strike lottery to be able find a meter not working. Usually these highly sought-after spots are already reserved by the kiam siap locals.
By law you can't park, but then the locals give the council kaw kaw till it is not enforceable. laugh.gif

Hello,

I am planning to have my pre-wedding photography, taken in Penang. I need advise on hotel selection, mainly for photography purpose. Convert the hotel room to a studio.

My hotel list so far include the following:
1- Eastern & Oriental (E&O)
2- Lone Pine

What do you think?
If you have alternative or suggestion, I will like to hear.
*
Would pick E&O cos of its rich heritage and ambiance. Nearby Heritage building and scenery are awesome too. You have 100 year old Churches, Fort Cornwallis, the Victoria Clock Tower, Ancient Chinese mansion, Chinese temples, Indian Temples and Fabulous Kapitan Keling, etc.
I have seen couples posing at 1am at these places!!! sweat.gif

The Botanic gardens and Penang Bridge are great for pre-wedding photography also.

10 Islands to See Before You Die
Number 7 : PENANG: Treat yourself to Malaysia's unique fusion of cultures and flavors
Start your food crawl at stalls that crowd the streets of Georgetown, Penang's largest city and Malaysia's food capital.

The delectable fare on offer memorably mingles Malaysian, Chinese, Indian, and European flavors. Foodies in search of supreme bliss should head to the marketplace Ayer Itam—adjacent to Kek Lok Si (the Temple of Supreme Bliss)—to dine on a variety of dishes based on rice, noodles, fish, shellfish, chicken, pork, vegetables, eggs, and coconut.

Look for lor bak (deep-fried marinated minced pork served with a chili sauce); lok-lok (skewered seafood, meats, and vegetables); and ikan bakar (grilled or barbecued fish marinated in spices and coconut milk, wrapped inside banana leaves, and grilled over hot coals).

The same fusion of cultures is evident in the local architecture, which ranges from modern high-rises to buildings built by 19th-century British colonialists. Add to the mix beach resorts, preserved mangroves, small fishing villages, and a share of temples, mosques, and churches.

Kek Lok Si best exemplifies this coexistence. At seven stories, it's the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia, and it reflects the shared values of Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism—designed with a Chinese octagonal base, a Thai-accented middle tier, and a Burmese-style peak.

Try go to Pantai Kerachut in Penang National park, Teluk Bahang. The beach there is prettier, cleaner, less people/pollution, no dogs, no beach rempit and no need scared been hit by jetski. tongue.gif and if you're in the right season, you might saw some turtle and the meromictic lake full with water, very special with 2 layer of hot/warm water at bottom and cold water on top.

*the only way to get there is by boat or hiking.
*
Best and most fun is hike there with your camp gear. Just make arrangements for the boat to take you back plus all your trash.

Baru Ferringhi not for penang people go one, only those who never see beach before in their life will go there.

Dear Guys,
How is TuneHotel in Penang? Any review on this? Hows the parking over there? Was it strategically located on some special makan spot or tourist spot nearby?

It is located beside New World Park.

Yup yup the famous New World Park for the many special makan and ABC (ais batu kacang). thumbup.gif

Walk across, to the opposite site of Burmah Road into Lorong Selamat for that infamous CKT or further along the Macalister road for many famous makan spots. Be warn, certain coffee shop in New Lane is super expensive! sad.gif

Hi, I have few question bout Penang, actually I've been there twice, but this time my grandmother and my auntie will come for medical check up,
so im confused lhaaa.

1. Which one better: Gleaneagles or Adventist - for medical checkup
2. I will stay for 5 nights, can give me any suggestion for apartment that fit for 5, I heard about aurora, but kinda afraid.
The place look kinda dirty, old, and creepy. Anyone have review on it? I want to stay in the city.
3. I want to rent a car either I drive my self or with the driver (preferable) looking for the cheap one, any information?

Thanks in advance  biggrin.gif
*
1. I prefer Adventist cos much cheaper and they keep the knives in the scabbard and not simply take them out!
2. City difficult to find apartment for 5 nights better you try Tune Hotel or other budget hotel.
3. Rental car plenty you can googlr them up for their rates.
