Is good to fold for community. rclxms.gif
@fylon
Well I guess Vista still capable running on our old rig. rclxm9.gif
*
Yup,Vista i guess our old school won't be able to enjoy the 3D dimension icons on the desktop there. sad.gif

@Kahloon
Yea.. Is always capable. brows.gif But the down site is, gaming fps on vista really worse. Tried ProStreet and UT3. Prostreest more or less like >5 fps is dropping and UT3 seems only run on 2D mode. The graphic sucky! shakehead.gif
*
Gaming in Vista?What is the average fps you got in both game? Prostreet is better than UT3? UT3 just able to play in 2D?

@fylon
wa... now you are moving to vista. smile.gif nice move. i wish i go for it. but my p4p800x giving me lots of headache recently. mad.gif i think i better split the 2gb into half, pump more juice to my socket A.

check your pm. wink.gif

kabu,your Asus is it repalced with the correct battery?Regarding your RAM,what's the main problem on it?THe timign issue or dual channel issue?

@fylon and edmin,from both of your feedback seems like our Win XP is giving better performance in gaming. biggrin.gif For the moment i'm still not planning to swtich to Vista as my RAM only 1GB.You all try CnC3 expansion, Kane's Wrath already? brows.gif I guess the most important for vista to support the aero stuff like i mentioned,i guess only part of the GC can support it. I guess my gc doesn't meet the requirement.

with 1GB, winxp is the best choice, no alternatives. your GC will support Vista aero nicely, no problem with a 9550. I tried aero on a 5200 (the lowest end that supports aero), the flip3d lags until the day after tommorow. And through personal experience, I have installed fresh Vista with updated drivers for my GC, and run the games direct for testing (to eliminate possible causes of slowdown by other applications). Confirmed with our rig, gaming on XP delivers a better experience.  wink.gif
*
Well this sounds not that nice for those low end AGP card users. But in future if i get 2GB RAM surely i will give a try on Vista.For gaming better to stick back to XP.

QUOTE(fylon @ Mar 22 2008, 02:47 PM)
@Edmin & Ray
Haha.. Yea! More or less.. On gaming deliver XP is unbeatable in compare with Vista! But as edmin says, for daily application Vista is A rating for overall. laugh.gif

Edmin.. U got the C&C3 expansion already? brows.gif 1GB ram is not really enough for Vista. As the raw vista without any software and AV installed it take roughly 500-600mb of ram. sweat.gif
*
For application so good rating? rclxms.gif I guess for a moderate user like me,i need to balance up in application and gaming. One thing i for sure is my 9550 sure will suffer in Vista for gaming,this couldn't be avoid unless i have a better gc like you all. Last time i asked you regarding the re-image stuff.Can you teach me how it works actually?

@fylon,

Good news to everyone, Windows XP SP3 is coming out sometime next early week, I m guessing 2moro, time to get busy nliting again for me...

Currently the rig with me is P4 3.2 with 9550 on hand. I run C&C 3,CS1.6 and Prostreet Demo only. blush.gif I play little games,i tend to play COD4 but my gc is suffering in SM3.0. My 2.6GHz with 5900 is at my hometown and i let my brother use it. thumbup.gif He uses it to play CS,Fifa08,C&C3 and some light gameslike casino. My old school 1.7Ghz i was using it when i was studying in U,now no more using temporory.Maybe plan to use it to play movie at tv sometime later by using S-vidoe.Hope i clarify your curious with my P4.

@raymond,
thanx, curiousity sickness cured, haha. Rather than CoD4, I think i would recommend u HL2 series to play with your rig, they are great too with graphics that fits your 9550. It's a good thing that all your rig is still working fine, I believe u r taking very good care of your rigs. Thumbs up!
*
HL2 ?Nice for 9550? Then i will try to install the game once i have the installer. Thanks for the recommendation.AWaitibng for your new review on the C&C 3 expension. laugh.gif

@fylon and kabu,yup all my 3 Pcs are P4 base. sweat.gif But one of them is already very very old school.I still haven't play HL2,hehe will give a try after that. Can my 9550 use 1280*1024 to play?

The previous version is still good for me,but recently after i did update for the browser,it will hanged and force to close because of it cannot recognize a .dll from a some webpage. doh.gif Guess they have mess up with the security features on it.

@edmin,why recently you want to do so much review with you lappie? laugh.gif P4M last time was very rock,i did used a Compaq P4M 2.0GHz too,the spec is almost the same with you.GC wise i have forgotten,i think maybe is the same with you too,ATI one.

Just to prove that P4 still can survive in the world of dual core today  brows.gif  Just finished running WinXP installation, posting from it now.

For browser wise, because IE is heavily dependant on the windows explorer itself, therefore I guess once u have problems with windows, your explorer will also go crazy will all sorts of dll and crashes. For me, IE6 and IE7 rocks. Because I take good care of the OS, do not simply install any apps. Just install what is needed and make sure that your OS is in tip top condition, free of adware/spyware. I use IE daily without any problems. I m sticking with it  thumbup.gif

This wasn't happened until i got the lastest windows update.

Talking about eBoost and HDD ? 1GB RAM i think the Vista will lag and slow. Last week i went to the Microsoft Fiesta booth,nothing much special.They are actually "selling" the new products like Microsoft Office 2007 and Windows Vista. Both grpahical are very nice.

Yea.. It might due to ur procs was running on FSB800 with HT on. But i dont proc's w/o HT will work fine when load with vista + gaming thou. Did u disable some of the services/function that is no needed by u?
*
Hehe,fylon nowadays dual core works ideally in vista. At least our virtual dual core can run better than those don't have virtual dual core i bet. Pengster is already yelling on his rig which has no HT and not perform well in Vista.

hey guys,i check the price list on the HDD. Seagate 500GB with 32Mb cache is cheap.LYP there RM310 can get already. fylon and edmin,both of you are short of HDD space right? It's the time to get one of them.

@fylon,i guess you shouldn't take the opty and mobo. Opty is no good in multitasking,even now those low end dual core and beat it easily.I agree to edmin opinion.

barry80,i see in Vista the RAM usage is > 1GB already. Left about 900MB+ ,i'm doubt it's enough for Vista to handle in gaming.

@edmin,your vista slim down and use only 200++MB during start up? This is superb,but i guess Vista if disable too much features on it better use back Win XP.

pengster,the HDD now is dropping the price like crazy. I got my HDD 500GB for RM330 from bulk last time.

kabu,my hometown Asus P4P800-X is also sucks. The mobo itself seems like having issue with sata. End up ,my sata HDD needs to get a coverter to convert it to PATA then only can use. wink.gif Asus cut cost mobo really bad.

@edmin,i guess you are in the right time to get one new HDD.THe 500GB with 32MB cache is waiting for you.I bet the HDD will be about 1x faster in the response compare to 16MB cache models.It won't lag that much in file transferring.
