why change your s478 3.0HT for a s775 3.06 (btw, i searched for 3.06 s775, came up only celeron) what is the purpose? In this case, the 3.0GHz HT will be more powerful in term of raw power, FSB of 800 vs 533, also the HT.

Even if u own a new rig, can you list out what r u utilising your rig for? gaming? surfing? watching movies? what else? I have to admit our old skool can't really catch up with newer games, but with newer AGP cards, new games are tolerable. Anyway, not everyone spends time on gaming. Everyone's PC usage habit is different. Most of the thread regulars here are still very satisfied with our current PC and very passionate about our baby. Not everyone can afford a new rig. We basically can do lots of stuff with our PC such as surfing, encoding, almost everything that you guys can do with a newer PC, albeit a little slower on the raw speed.

I don't want to buy a new rig just because it is the greatest and latest, I wanna own one because I need one. be a smart consumer! Hope u guys get the idea.

Ok,let me ask you.Now if you are on Socket T which is using P4 3.06GHz,do you think that your current cpu can run faster than mine or fylon one?Let's compare the processor's benchmark and see if you are so ego with your new Socket T. Why don't you use C2D or C2Q if you are afford?Technology is keeping changing daily,i don't see any need for major upgrade for us if we are not meant to play super high end games like Crysis and FarCry 2.

Calm down already,if he really so proud of his P4 3.06GHz with Socket T.Last question to as him,socket T with P4 is already outdated for long long time,why is he still using that?

Ehe.. Speed doesnt matter as long as not like turtle will do already. Slow by few secs doesnt make any different.

P/s: Oh yea.. Back to my question regarding to linux.. Any good and better OS to intro which is compatible with our system? What i scare is driver issues. Wanna give a try on other system..

Its because ur question are sensitive. *Atleast for me, it sounds like abit look down on my system. Altough maybe u dont meant it but u had hurt the feeling of the old school user at this thread without notice. Thats why everyone stand up to defend their baby.

Just like what edmin says, why we still using it is because it still enough for our use. And we are SATISFIED with the power and performance it gave. Hence i guess u had got the answer for ur question.

P/s: Oh yea.. Until now i guess, S478 still owning its antique value.. Put ur eyes on current system, LG775 based P4 is totally PHASED out and it dont even worth a penny. 775 based P4 proc wont hook up more then RM150 i guess. *from what i can see in garage sales* But for S478, another different story. S478 3.0Ghz proc at least can hook up to RM200. See the antique value. I hope u see it. Old doesnt means out but the value it own are priceless.

bro, if u r doing encoding and decoding like me, dual/quad core vs P4 is not matter of seconds, is MINUTES + HOURS. tried an encoding stuff on a quad, took 6 hours. using my system, need 24 hours!

For linux based systems, u can try ubuntu, user friendly. For me, i would try Suse Linux since it is SMB oriented. Linux driver provides you will all basic features. U want fancy, windows is still the best. Example, xfi/audigy drivers in linux does not sound as good as in windows.

LOL! I dont mean that kind of super heavy duty encoding.. For the type of encoding that u mentioned, it really need the powah of quad to done. Well.. For normal usage like applications / games few secs of delay doesnt make any different right. Ever try do encoding stuf with server based system? Any different with normal desktop?

Woah.. That gonna be hard.. Thought can use my SC on linux.. Ubuntu is the penguin version right? Tested the linux OS in the Asus EEE pc before.. Well not so bad.. Just quite simple. Everything is straight to the point no fancy stuff.

Haha, hope kabu don't mind I answer on his behalf. He uses that rig for:

1. Web surfing, downloads.
2. Light gaming.
3. Movies and anime.
4. MP3.
5. MS Office applications.

Secondary rig of his, so can always have one PC running when the other is down. But most of the time the PC is occupied by his sisters. Sharing is caring, hehe... That socket A also most parts were salvaged and got it cheap (some 2nd hand), because most important thing is that the PC can serve its intended purpose.

Mine is my primary rig, my only PC that got me through my degree studies. Bought a lappy for my sis last year for her university studies, so I have no ownership on that (keluar duit only), no lappy for myself. So poor me still dependant only lovely s478 for...well, u guys already know la, macam macam.

Itu lappy company, not mine. that's my main workstation in the office. Pity the lappy, heavy duty processing of autocad, photoshop, print server, programming platform, video encoding etc. hope company can sponsor me a new dell xps1330 this year lor...wakakaka....
