hi dudes, i need some help/guidance on the below

I bought a wireless router Buffalo AirStation WHR-G300N (802.11n, 2.4GHz) at Low Yat just now for RM169, and even after connecting it correctly to my laptop (which is my only PC), the setup program still says got connection error. i can only connect to streamyx when I set the (ON/OFF/AUTO) switch to OFF.

I want to connect my PS3 to go online, so far after Scan it can detect the SSID of the router and displays its serial number, but after that i don't know what settings to use for

- WLan Security Setting (I selected None)
- IP Address Setting (I selected Automatic, or should I select PPPoE to enter my streamyx login and password?)
- DCHP host name (I selected Do Not Set)
- DNS Setting (I selected Automatic)
- MTU (I selected Automatic)
- Proxy Server (I selected Do Not Use)
- UNnP - (I selected Enable)

then saved, went to test connection and it failed to obtain IP Address..

hope you guys can help me.... thanks

what is your modem model/brand?

if i were you, i'd set up the current modem as bridge-only, and use the buffalo to dial to streamyx (pppoe).

failing to obtain ip address means that the dhcp server in the buffalo (or your modem) isnt assigning a new ip to the ps3. it might be caused by conflicting dhcp servers or the wep/wpa keys are wrong or the ps3 mac address is not in the whitelist/allowed list.

my modem is the streamyx asdl modem DB102 2/2+.

however, during the setup of the Buffalo, the instructions was to have both the streamyx modem and buffalo router in the system.

would really appreciate how to get this to work, otherwise will regret paying for such a wireless router....

if both are functioning as routers, there will be some complications for nat type and or port-forwarding/dmz/firewall etc. it is advised to only have one router to simplify things.

db102 is a riger modem/router

1) connect directly to the db102 first
2) set it to bridge mode -> http://www.riger.com.my/SmartConfig.pdf (follow until page 3 only)

next, connect to the buffalo (this time you can connect the buffalo & riger together)

1) set the buffalo switch to ON (page 19, on = router mode on) http://www.buffalotech.com/support/getfile..._Manual_web.pdf
2) set the buffalo to connect to pppoe (enter your streamyx setting), sorry couldnt find exact page in pdf but i saw it as an option.

set up wireless accordingly whether you want to use wep, wpa, aoss etc and make sure to use the same setting for ps3.

if you want an alternative setting, use the riger as router (page 11 in pdf) and set the buffalo to "OFF" (AP mode)

I had a similar error with PS3 fail to obtain IP address, but no problem with connection to laptop. The problem I had was posted in this thread last week.

The problem I has is with the WEP encryption, but it works with WPA encryption. So I don't care as long as its connected smile.gif Another prob I had is the lag in online games... I not sure if its my modem setting of streamyx prob

yes, I am curious if maxis/celcom broadband is a better alternative?

Btw, DiGi 3G broadband is coming up, offering to be a more stable and consistent service than its competitors.

mobile network broadbands...can they work with PS3? I thought you need to install a special software while using their modem to connect? I don't think you can install those software into the PS3...

Added on March 22, 2009, 4:15 pmneed someone to recommend a good router...D-Link, Belkin, or Linksys? Pls respond =.=

guys, is there a speed difference for ADSL modems? I mean the speed difference for wireless LAN connection. I think streaming using Media Server can be faster if wireless LAN can be faster. Sorry for my noob question
