Hey i have a question here. When i set up my internet using my PS3 it said UPnP not available. I want to ask what is UPnP? and there also wrote my router cannot support online gaming or something like that. But i could download games and play.

Hi all,

Anyone here using P1 Wimax for your PS3?

What's your out take on it, and what wireless router being used? Anyone using it to play COD 4 or 5?

Am quite interested on it as my Screamyx is way too slow and getting killed before even seeing the opponent.

Cheers...

I'm using P1 Wimax and currently connecting it directly to PS3 (no routers). It's fast, so far I've managed to play Resistance 2, COD4, CO5, Burnout Paradise, GTA4, MGSO, Rainbow Six and Motorstorm without any problems.

However do take note that the connection is NAT3 and may have some restrictions such as the inability to host games (not all, depending on the game), restrictions to voice functions etc. It very much depends on the requirements of the game.

Keep in mind of the Fair User Policy and the limit it imposes per month according to your subscribed package. Go to their website to find out. For me, as a casual game and net surfer, P1 works just fine. Just make sure that your area has the coverage though.

Yea its pretty frustrating if you are using P1 for gaming. The ping is quite high so you will get the occasional lag plus if its raining u might as well just go to bed because the connection will be horrible. Nat3 sucks... and no amount of port forwading will change that cause its a limitation in ISP. I have written to p1 on numerous ocassion but there is nothing they cna do to change this.

Hi crower75 and Goneraz,

Thanks for your response...sounds like there is good and bad to it, just like screamyx. sigh...

Now I feel like there's no point switching over to Wimax if there's those limitations, might as well stay with screamyx, at least can still get NAT 2.

As for the fair usage thingy is ok la, min 5Gb. Also just heard that screamyx us only giving 3Gb or something like that, dunno how true is it.

On top of all that...What else do you all think, still worth switching over to Wimax?

It really much depends on what you require really. For me, I always travel from Kedah to KL so getting a fixed line internet would not suit me. Plus, both of my places in Kedah and KL have the coverage each within 2km from P1's transmitter. I don't Torrent or upload videos, just for gaming and casual surfing so it suits me just fine. I really don't feel the effects of NAT3 (maybe I'm not the hardcore type), what I'll do is I'll just PM someone who's playing the game and they'll invite me. So far I play and use the headset for games like COD4 , Rainbow Six and MOH with no problems.

I've had no problems during rain (maybe cos I'm close to the transmitter), however the last two days the connection to PSN seems to be terrible, for surfing it's still fast. I've noticed that gamers using Streamyx are having this problem as well.

Cheers..and goodluck

Hey crower75, thanks again for your reply.

The mobility part interest me as i'd be traveling between houses in the future.

Apart from not being able to host games, which is still slow on my current NAT 2. Is it still possible to connect to available games even on a NAT 3? How is the speed like compared to a 1Mb line from streamyx?
