lately, it felt like izzi is throttling http downloads ...

i've got no signal issues and have been downloading with acceptable speeds for a while.

out of sudden, all http download is below 20KB/s only where i use to get at least 70KB/s from these server i downloads... at first i thought the line might be bz or watever. But based on my monitoring, it seems thats not the case. And its also confirmed that the server I'm downloading from is not bz.

To proof my findings, i did a few speed test just now
1) using izzi speedtest : more than 900kbps download
2) using speedtest.net : below 100kbps download

from those figures, I'm sure my signal is not a problem. It's clear that i can get the claimed 1mb connection back to izzi site, but anything other than izzi i'll get 0.1mb connection.

The problem is izzi is throttling even HTTP download !!!

I think you get it wrong.... using izzi speedtest, its referring to local host. while speedtest.net is not local though they are using the same speedtest program.

For example. A highway with 5 lane comes to a toll and after the toll, its 2 lane which would cause a mass of traffic jam. What izzi could do is to make sure that local host are good but they couldn't control outside host. I hope you understand what i am saying...

Anodize,

You say I'm wrong meaning izzi is not throttling HTTP ?

What I'm saying is I'm not having weak or signal outage symptoms (which means i should be getting fast internet connection because i can connect to izzi host close to 1Mb connection) but however I'm still getting slow downloads.

Based on your reply, if i can connect to izzi at 1Mb (local host) and cannot connect anywhere else to the internet, does it means izzi has fully perform its duty as ISP ?

What good if i'm only able to surf/download from izzi for 1Mb speed and 0.1Mb from ANY other internet site ?

If you read properly, I did mentioned that the server I'm downloading from is not bz which means "the highway to the destination is 5 lane".

Btw, I'm sure you are fully aware that all izzi customer's internet usage will go through izzi infrastructure before reaching the internet. For that, even they cannot control what 'outside host' is doing, its pretty clear that they can control what or how much traffic coming into their 'local host' as u put it smile.gif

It is stated that they provide connection of unlimited usage thus i suppose that means they do not have the right to throttle the speed. However your case, the server may be traffic free. But is your place congested? Cuz places that are congested with users you might not get as high speed though. as for the speedtest with izzi, i do not trust any speedtest. thats why i provide free test run at my customers area before they purchase anything. Right now, for me, i used to get over 900kbps but now i could get around 600-700kbps. however the speed is consistant and i do not do heavy online gaming, so i am happy with my connection.

hi anodize,

don't get me wrong, i'm happy with the connection stability as well and have been using it for a while (only left 100 over days). I'm just here to share my findings which could be true or wrong as well. smile.gif

Apart from that, what leading me to think they are doing some throttling or controlling over http download(in fact, i think is overall bandwidth) is because i can see a pattern on the download speed and the pattern repeat itself everyday. Everyday, at 2am to 6am there will be a sharp increase in speed which is relative to the speedtest result i got from izzi site.

ok let me explain further, let say i start downloading a file at 12 am, it will download very very slow. When it reaches 2am on the dot, it will always go full speed. If the download have not finish by 6am on the dot also, i will see a sharp speed decrease in speed which return the download speed to similar to before 2am. And this happens everyday without fail.

congestion could be a possible reason but i choose not to believe congestion is the root cause based on the above explanation. I don't believe most of the users in my area stop downloading at 2am thus relieving the network congestion and start downloading again a 6am thus causes congestion again smile.gif It just doesn't sound right haha

imho, the most accurate speedtest is to open a few youtube videos & see the rate on iBurst_Modem UTL.

izzi's own speedtest is down now..

Hmm... not really that true... the best is that they themselves test the speed so that they would know if they are satisfied or not.

is me again.
after few week, the problem for me is same..
juz wan to tell the ppl who planning to get izzi..if missing my previous post

at cheras, near taman pertama.
b4 i get the izzi...already borrow the terminal from my friend to run a test for a week...speed very good, even BT also can can more then 100kpbs..very stabil..then i get the izziPro lor..

starting (around Jan 2008) very good..even my friends jealous my internet speed...btw..most of them using streamyx.

but...speed get slow n slow since Jun or July...that time still ok lar...so i thought maybe my pc got spyware or virus..or system problem..
then i format my pc few time....still no change...
til this Aug..start really cannot tahan already...
make a complain...but only asking me to send the speedtest for whole day then only can do something..but i tell them...normally afternoon i'm not in house...but he say maybe afternoon very good speed wor.. smile.gif if wat he say is correct...then y i paid the $$$ but cant enjoy whole day speed...? wan me to change my job to night job then online at afternoon???? funny or not ?

Now...i only get 80-150kpbs..which mean around 18KB/s...10% of it only lar..brother
sometime..IF i lucky..maybe got 200kpbs lar..

i understand mayb lot of ppl using izzi at my area...but y they not upgrade for the place the lot of ppl use ler...
n where is 2mb as promises when i go to the izzi launching tat day ? already a year lor..

so....izzi only know how to get more user ...but they don't know how to jaga the old user...
as i know..now streamyx the speed n service also already increase lor...
3 months to go lar..nvm..i wont make any other complain or buy the attena which wasting more $$$ on tat...

Better use back the Streamyx
and one thing, years ago...my room n my house for Maxis 3G signal is very bad...but now i can use my maxis online n get the 3G connect..even it cant BT..but at least browsing is fast then tis izzi lar...so see all company try to improve their service but izzi some more going back or geting behind...how long this company can survival...??

think carefully b4 get izzi...even after testing the speed ok at ur area..but after few month...the speed 100% slow down..coz they like to doing road show here road show there n get much user as they can BUT without building more BS or getting the service improve...

Take Care urself lar...

i think they are doing some changes to their network (my GUESS , some sort of bandwidth controlling) cuz their user base has grown by a lot.

from the user posts that i gather here, it seems to be affecting area by area ... ..

for me, internet surfing is still fine cuz it doesn't require much bandwidth and lighting responses BUT i'm suffering on the downloads (DD or BT) and online gaming. Dont tell me izzi not suitable for online gaming, cuz i did online gaming (PS3) via izzi before and it was FINE with acceptable ping rate. Now ?? hahhaha

So Anodize, any findings from your side yet ?
