wah nice! got hope now....

but it says 95watts, dunno at what distortion, and driving how many ohms speakers.

Why hold out on 605? Is this better in shootout?

Speakers Impedance:-

for 6 ohm setting:-
Front A or B - 4 ohm min
Front A + B - 6 ohm min
others - 8 ohm min

for 8 ohm setting:-
Front A or B - 6 ohm min
Others - 8 ohm min

so for 8 ohm speakers should not be any problem at all ...

and this one got 2 sub-woofer out
so it's a 7.2 channel receiver actually...

There's another latest model from Yammy, RX-V863, around RM3K plus but lacking an Anchor Bay ABT1010 scaler chip (from RX-V1800) but for a few hundred ringgit more, better get RX-V1800 unless you don't need an upscaling thingy.

I found out that Yamaha RX-V1800 / RX-V3800 & Denon AVR-2808 / AVR-3808 are both using Burr-Brown PCM1791 DACs for all channels and not the latest Burr Brown PCM1792 (used in Onkyo SR805) with a signal to noise ration around 123db.

Of course, I'm not saying PCM1791 is inferior lah but potong steam mah when you spend so much and not getting the latest DAC pulak. Of course, my current budget now is for a RX-V1800 the most, can't afford Onkyo SR805 to be honest. Headache.

I'm sure it'll be rated at 8ohms so far haven't seen any mainstream brand AV amps rated at 6ohms unless those HITB or weird ones..

The 3k+ for V863 is list price (same like V861, I get quote from Yamaha direct is RM3,150 but get from outside final price RM2.6k)
FYI, The V661 and 861 also using Burrbrown DAC

US start shipping the V663 mid of March...so I think it will only available here around May/Jun....

actually, most reviews don't bother to check 95W at 8 ohms at how many channels loaded.. if run at 7channels full steam, may not be 95W each (depending on brand and how they rate their amps)..

that 95W tested on 1 channel at 1khz nia....no one tested on full chennal load....

how much is 661 here? lets see if the local shops will sell this 663 at 1.8k? or markup to 2.5k to unsuspecting unker owners..

most good AV amps if rated at 100W per channel 5.1 may be 140-150W at 2 channel load, and at 100W at full 5 channel load..

I would wait for 863 and see how is the pricing. If it is way cheaper than 1800, then might consider it.

Many amps using Burr Brown but we must need to know which Burr Brown DAC, PCM1791, PCM1792 or the latest PCM1796 used in Onkyo 805. That's the problem. Very true, the retail price not accurate, sometimes might be a lot cheaper.

The Onkyo is still the most interesting AV receivers at the moment. But, in time to comes, more and more will flock the market for us to choose.

Wanna add my 2 sen, I am using the oldie but goldie RXV657. I don't think anyone here needs to worry obout manufacturere claims on the 95wpc. Its genuine. And if only 1 channel is being drive, it maxes out at 130watts!!. With stereo its closer to 115wpc. So I have no doubt about the 95wpc claim when all channels driven.

But the best feature is the amps natural sound quality. So far no other receiver that I have listened to comes close. But, buy, buy...

I guess we could see the proper line up of the new gen AV receivers at KLIAV 2008

Hope to see more budget ones as the current next gen AV receivers cost an arm and a leg. Of course, most importantly a problem free blu-ray player at a decent price.

Wondering when PS3 will have a firmware upgrade. Or need to wait til all BD players sorted its problem.

I hope the next firmware update will have DTS HD to decode.

They better do since the PS3 sucks .... very poor game lineup, have not been using my PS3 for gaming lately, it will never match the success of their PS2 console. Luckily, it's a decent blu-ray player, one of its saving grace but for the XBOX 360, it's a good gaming machine but a poor HD-DVD player in terms of PQ and SQ. Terbalik.

Yeah... games coming out from PS3 kind of poor..

the SACD and DVD-A very cheap there....got 2-3 pcs last year at RM10 a piece

As a gaming console, PS3 is a letdown but as a Blu-Ray player, it's fantastic, the start up time is better than the best standalone blu-ray players in the market.

That's cheap, last time I remembered paying RM120 plus for HK singers on SACD and around RM80 plus for Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD-Audio.

RM10 per piece is very cheap indeed. Here is still selling at exorbitant price

I already grab a few in 06 show (I think one lowyat mod kaki also sapu a few titles ) but didnt go the 07 one, nebermind, recharge for 08 show..

That's cheap, I bought my REM Greatest Hits DVD-A from Artist Gallery at RM60 plus after their 11% discount for members.

SACD and DVD-A I only got 15titles..dem hard to come by (and costly 50-80 per title..if buy from music shop)..better wait for AV show..

Assuming if i were to get this RX-V663, what do you guys think for a subwoofer to pair with it?

i use mordaunt-short carnival 9 (RM900-1200)

the LFE output sometimes makes my heart shake as well...

What's ur budget for the subwoofer?

Below RM1K.

There are a few models from Yamaha and Pioneer below RM1K but I'll recommend Nbien, it's around RM1.2K, made in Malaysia also but the sound is quite okay for a budget round, it's less boomy than Yamaha and it goes pretty loud. Nbien won a few awards overseas for their speakers, it's not a 'Cap Ayam' brand but it's no REL or Velodyne killer lah but the sound is acceptable. Hi-Fi Choice Penang has them in stock, I played with them briefly with my own movies and songs. Sound quality is acceptable. Can go there try try lah, dun buy nvm lah, they won't throw you out of the shop. Hahaha.

I don't need it to be loud just boomy will do... (small place only)
