thanks bro! i now officially own the 663!!! =)

btw, which is more superior/preferred? Coax OR Optical for audio?? DVDP --> 663
had some head cracking yesterday trying to set the system up myself. forgotten about the audio cables
so i had to do with the composite for a start. (meaning i dont get digital audio am i right?)

i couldn't get the video to show though, thru component cable. my pv80h has not arrived so i tested it with
my crt.

this is my setup, pls advise... anyone smile.gif

DVDP component out --> component in 663 --> composite video out (yellow) --> CRT = OK

i tried this but no video
DVDP composite out --> composite in 663 --> component out --> component in CRT = X

got my component cable from Giant... was holding the optical audio in my hand.. but then when i asked one of the
sales person, he said component can do both video and audio... =.= so i left the optical at the store.

i suppose when i get the pv80 with hdmi, i can dump the current composite cable from 663 to tv and replace it with
the hdmi cable?

cheers! thanks

Welcome to the Yammy club bro! rclxms.gif

For a DVDP component for video and coaxial for audio will suffice.

When you have blu-ray player later on, you'll need HDMI to carry the the high-bandwidth lossless audio.

couldn't wait for the stock.. so i got mine for a little above 1800 elsewhere.. hurhur...
setting up wasn't that difficult lol.. just an hour or so.

now... where do i plug in my PS2?

and if i have a PC with composite audio out.. where do i plug it in the 663?

changed my audio composite cable to optical... can't really tell the difference yet anyway smile.gif
it shows as PCM?

tested with casino royale dvd... the sound seems unbalance (loud-soft-loud) especially when
background music is playing... pirated dvd maybe? haha

Yup, thread starter should rename this thread. I think we should rename it to a general Yamaha AVR thread. biggrin.gif

Just plug it into any composite and audio input of 663.

PC composite audio out? You mean analog audio is it? Same as above.

Guys a quick question. Been looking around the forums and couldnt find my answer. If I were to buy the 663, can I use the speakers from the HTIB that I wrongly bought which is the Pioneer HTZ363DVD. At the back of the speakers it says 4 ohms. Please advise and thanks in advance.

Only for fronts bro, and you have to set the AVR to 6 ohm. It's not recommended to use speakers with too low impedance. Your AVR could overheat.

I suggest you sell the whole set, and start again. Sorry bro, I know that's not easy.

Acctually, the 663 can drive 4ohms all round. the Total PO is 945W distributing 7chs.
In your case if you wish to drive 4ohms speakers you'll be drawing 195W max if you were to run them 5ch then it's just slightly on the limits.
But for sure you wont have a SUB.

Aiman, Correct me if i'm wrong. But i've considered about taking the Onkyo 606, it's claimed to drive 4ohms/6/8/16. I guess it should be fine.

althosmk,
But this is no way to go for stretch period. electronics tends to degrade throughout time. so I bet you'll need to upgrade your speakers asap. PSB LCR are real good for a start and many ways sound better than the HTiB, I saw in MidValley today going for 1350 before discount .. i think can get 10~20% .. so if you wish to upgrade I guess around 4.5K should be good. Any Active subs are better than the HTiBs. you can still use your fronts then get center + surround .. & sub.
