LOL... No idea how much it costs.. I have absolutely no idea where it is situated.

Yea comparatively, HKU campus is much more accessible than CU and UST. Thank god , my department is in BofA Tower, Admiralty and not in Shatin, at least for now. LOL.. actually I prefer being in central, probably it's because I am used to places where things are more reachable and nearby.

So how do you find the quality of teaching over there? Intense or is more like chilled-out for a first year? Has it met your expectation? I mean I would assume 1st year kids are more or less like honey moon year~ LOL... at least thats what I reminisce. I am very much looking forward to a whole new Asian teaching approach.

I know someone who is doing law in CUHK , but she is graduating this year. For sabahan, In hku only me and a girl who is doing dentistry. But for Malaysian, there are like 10-20 of us. Most of them do business related course particularly Econ and Finance and Acc and Finance. For CUHK, it is situated in northern part of New territory, near to Shenzhen. But in terms of environment, UST and CUHK are better compare to HKU because of the campus is bigger and further away from the city. HKU is just too near to central, and hence Lan Kwai Fong. smile.gif and make the land there expensive.

Can you guest, how much is the price of apartment on the top floor of this building cost ?

And this is not the most expensive one.

BOFA tower = Bank of America tower ? I thought that was the place for working ?

For the teaching, the medium is all in English, except linguistic course for sure. When I first came to HK, I thought they will either apply the Western or australia style, which is honeymoon for the 1st year, if not first sem. I tend to expect things to be extremely relax at least for the 1st week of teaching, as we have encounter in most of the Malaysia style teaching. But to my surprise, the lesson start instantly after several brief introduction, and I found difficulties even for the 1st lecture, due to the fact that hk students spend 7 years in high school whereas we only spend 6. There is no honeymoon for engineering students, especially for me who do double degree. All the text book here are from US, and cost around 250 - 300 per book. I am not sure for your case since you are doing law, maybe UK textbook.

For engineering courses, especially those related to math (particularly pure math), you can expect a bored and tiring class, but for business class, there are always in class participation, looking at the stock market inside class, analyzing the market trend, and lots and lots of presentation that will require you to wear in formal. Make sure you bring enough suit for the presentation and high table if you reside in hall.

As far as I know, dentistry in hku is different with the medicine, cause medicine has their own campus which is nearby and supported by queen mary hospital. I can't provide you with much details about dentistry, but you can expect the qualification is recognized throughout the world. And I know one Malaysian from penang studying medicine here, perhaps i can ask him to give u some info.

hi there . I am so glad I found this thread. I am beginning to wonder whether if there is alot malaysians studying in HK before I found this.
I am heading for UST in to do BEng(electronic) in september.. The reason I was attracted to engineering there is because of the Honors Research Option where one will get to study things from postgraduate studies & compulsorily be a paid intern in a world-reknown MNC. I quoted this from the program itself from the EE department website.

So I am just wondering if chen6wei , will you be working in HK after you graduate? Does hk companies discriminate internationals?

What about postgraduate studies? Is HKU any good in postgrad studies for business/finance? Do they offer any scholarship?
Also, is it easy to breakthrough the job market after graduation?

I'm from Sabah too.

Perhaps this is something you guys should proud about. Official news still haven't publish in the official website, but we received the email from vice chancellor, congratulating all for the efforts we put in.

Hk dominates 3 out of 5 places in asia region, and to my surprise, Hku beat tokyo u for the 1st time.

Ah, my friend got accepted for Hong Kong University using STPM results smile.gif

I went to Hong Kong before. You definitely need to equip yourself with Cantonese if you wish to get around.

3A or sometimes 2A not including pengajian am will be sufficient to land business or engineering programme. But if your applying for things like medicine / law / actuarial science. Its best if you have straight.

C-Note, I have no idea about the chinese requirement, as I applied law postgraduate course. Sorry, can't help you on that ...

Actually if you could score 3As , you could pretty much get into any university (Europe, Asia and Australia)

that is if you mean 3As not including pengajian am.
anyway business related courses are more hotly contested there in hk so you need at least 3As to actually stand a strong chance.

hi chen9wei and all,

glad to have someone studying in HK here in this thread. for ur info, I will be accompanying my wife to pursue master in dental surgery at HKU. Got the offer letter a bit late and she is supposed to start by mid of this month so we are a bit rushing to make the necessary preparation. Just applied the visa today.

anyway, hope u can give some advise on:-

1- Accommodation, where's the best place to stay/rent outside campus with reasonable (if not cheap) rental for a small family like us (with 1 kid)
2- am i allowed to work? i heard it's quite difficult to get working permit.
3- What's the most convenient bank to use there?
4- more questions will come...

thanks in advance

p/s i better get cantonese pocket dictionary fast
