Morning!

Ok I know this is kinda early.. or maybe too late to ask for suggestions. But yeah.

I'm tryin to get my hands on a lappy that I would use mostly for programming and stuff. However, I would delicately prefer one that can suit the need of designing as well. I'm doing my degree studies for Computer Games Technology so yeah, I assume that I might need that little kick for the graphic support or whatsoever.

Budget wise, well I hate to cap it but max RM3.5k.

Personal Pref:
No specific spec for processor
I hate heat! So yay for any light-heated lappy?
Screen size doesn't matter since I believe you guys wouldn't really recommend me uber small lappy. Fat finger alert!

Any chance to get a decent reply on which models I should look through by daylight? Im thinking of dropping by @ PCFair later on today.

Thanks a bunch guys!

(Oh yeah, kick Acer out of the list)

Edit: I just got thru some talks w my mum and yeah she allowed me to fork another RM1k.. so budget would be laying @ RM4.5k.

Currently I'm looking at Asus' And Dell's.. or perhaps if they hv Gateway booth @ PCFair might drop by for a look.

Anyone for any last dip? Gonna leave home for class in about 30mins and then drop by PCFair.. might get the lappy rightaway x(

okie, abit tricky and troublesome over my case, as myself is a dell's service provider, but sometimes i doubt bout it's quality(i might be bias as i am work for dell and my works is all about fixing faulty/problematic dell's laptop and desktop at customer's site)
my option are :
Sony Vaio CR35G
T8100 aka C2D 2.10Ghz
200GB
ATI Radeon X2300 128MB

3GB RAM (sales person special offer smile.gif)
1 Year International Warranty (Services Center in MV)
Free 1 Carry bag +1 Vaio Backpack + Keyboard Cover + VAIO Mouse
Price : RM4488

versus

Dell Inspiron 1420
T7250 aka C2D 2.0Ghz
250GB
NVidia 8400m 128MB

3GB RAM
3 Years Complete Cover(As most services will be done by myself, which mean repair and services myself sweat.gif)
Free 1 Targus Travel Mouse + Free Upgrade to 3GB Ram + Free Upgrade HDD to 250GB
Price : RM4235

other spec almost the same

i actually plan to get a better quality laptop, i dun really care about services if i buy dell, i also gonna services by myself
(as i most likely know what's the known issue for Inspiron 1420, but i got no idea about Sony VAIO, that's why i need the recommendation over here)

what i need is good quality product > good quality services

actually same price. diff brand.
one is asus(intel)
the other is compaq (amd)

purpose.. light gaming.. uni works for engineering (autocad i think), music, movies, browsing..
no programming or hardcore 3d FPS games

so which is better?

Asus F5VL20DPM
Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology
Inter C2D Processor T5750 (2.0 MGz, 2M L2, 667MHz)
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945BG Network Connection
15.4" WXGA (colorshine), ATI Radeon X2300 VRAM 128MB,
384M (hyper memory) Max 1920 with 4G RAM
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
DD2 667MHz 3GB, SATA 200GB, DVD-S-Multi, 8 in 1 Card Reader
Bluetooth V2.0+EDR, Built in 1.3M pixel webcam

Got it for RM3049. Basic price was RM2999 so I add up another RM50 for another 2GB Ram.

The Turion if you don't mind short battery life....

the T2370 is slightly a bit behind....unless it is the T5xxx or the T7xxx, then i wont choose the AMD... icon_rolleyes.gif

Owh ok...but at RM3049 i would rather go for the Acer 4920...Same proc,2GB rams, slightly teeneywinne screen wideness, no need the ATi X2300 because it wouldnt be as much diffrent than the Intel GMA X3100 but at least got some 'braggin rights'....Other components around the same...Price RM:2599...and get free AIA insurance RM10,000 Coverage, plus a three years warranty limited warranty international and local warranty...included in the free gift is a Face detection prgram which will be a bonus for your laptop security...

i need a com for student use and perhaps fps gaming if possible,

it doesnt have to be light or small or have long batt life,

it needs good wifi and internet stuff.

and it needs some international warranty if possible

my budget would be about 2- 3.5k. tell me if there are none in that range

with almost same price and almost same performance (i know Geforce 8400M GS >> Radeon X2300)
for me i will take Vaio CR35G. you will get cool looking laptop and thrust me you won't regret in the future. laptop design also very important factor.
1420 just looks too bland and boring.

and one more thing vaio screen is beautiful!

My pointers:
1) CPU benchmark
T8100 (Penryn 45nm) > T7250 (Merom 65nm) --> Sony wins

2) GPU benchmark
From the link http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphi...List.844.0.html
Nvidia 8400M GS (Position 57) > ATI Radeon X2300 (Position 67) --> Dell wins

3) HDD
250GB > 200GB --> Dell wins (but it depends on what HDD model offered by them: Personally, I prefer Seagate laptop HDD models)

4) Memory
Both are equal (but it depends on what RAM model offered by them)

5) Style (Aesthetic value)
Sony CR35G > Dell 1420 --> Sony wins

6) Screen size
Both are equal 14.1" (Sony does not have issue with laptop LCD yet; the so-called "LCD light leakage/backlight bleed")

7) Weight (with a standard battery)
Both are equal --> Sony 2.50 kg = Dell 2.50 kg

8) Price
RM4235 < RM4488 --> Dell wins

9) Warranty
3 Years Complete Cover > 1 Year International Warranty --> Dells wins (there is nothing great with "International" warranty if you don't travel that much. You should opt for 3-year extended warranty from Sony)
