Also the viola uses the alto clef. The middle pitch between bass and treble clef.

QUOTE(yunnie @ Oct 14 2008, 03:50 PM) Hmm.. I'm not very familiar with music notes XD They all look the same. You cannot see the alto clef on the piano score. That's one of the reason why i quit piano a long long time ago.. Now struggling already. Hehee.. But I'm not giving up violin because of this. Need to train myself to recognise them in one look. Don't have to keep refering the scores one note at a time when playing. I think you should study a little of theory and then pick up violin, it will helps your reading a lot. |

Some teachers or music school offer music theory class along with your practical (every instrument) until grade 5. Till then you will need to take a different class to complete until grade 8. You may ask your teacher if he/she offers or not, if it is not, you need another class. I can be your theory teacher if you want to save money.Hmm.. My teacher hasn't given me any work on theory yet.. I don't even have a workbook! QUOTE(icyfawkes @ Oct 14 2008, 04:38 PM) LoL! I do not like books that I read in high school but I love music books a lot. |

QUOTE(yunnie @ Oct 15 2008, 09:05 AM) I will ask her today. I remembered she ordered a book (should be theory?) for me since it has no stock when I first enrolled in her class. Well, I think she forgot about it. Sure, not a problem. Btw thanks for offering to tutor me. Maybe I can ask for your help if I encounter any difficulties in theory? XD QUOTE(icyfawkes @ Oct 15 2008, 09:13 AM) Abnormal, maybe she/he is new in teaching. You should remind her/him.QUOTE(yunnie @ Oct 15 2008, 10:05 AM) BTW is the bridge supposed to be aligned with the middle point of both the sound posts? When I was positioning the bridge (after I dropped my violin *ouch*) the other day, I made it slightly higher up. Does it affect much? It does affect the sound if the bridge position is wrong. The bridge is aligned to the notch of the f-hole:![]() It is better to let your teacher realign it for you. |

QUOTE(yunnie @ Oct 15 2008, 11:45 AM) Will do. I only noticed it after one week. Okay. You will not learn how to tune until grade 5 actually. Tuning is very hard unless if you can catch the note on the piano to the violin. I only copy the way my teacher tunes the violin. She hasn't teach me yet.. Must ask about this also.. I only use the pegs to tune. Not really sure how to use the fine tuners. Btw the strings won't snap that easily right? If you can able to tune it yourself with the peg, then it you will sometimes needed some a little bit adjusting for the pitch to be accurate, that is the time you need to use the fine tuners. Turn it to the right for higher pitch and turn it to the left for lower pitch. Simply as that. The string will not snap if you did not over tighten the string. |

QUOTE(yunnie @ Oct 15 2008, 03:07 PM) Is playing cello harder than any other string instruments? Since its heavy and all.. The strings must be very thick too right? I am minoring in cello. Well, it is bigger obviously and the fingerboard is harder to press because the string is thick (almost the same thickness compare with the electric bass). It is not really heavy after all. To compare which is harder, it is impossible (nothing is easy). Violinist plays a lot of melodies while cellist is like sort of easy on bass notation such as playing the tonic chords but sometimes the cellist does a little bit of melody. After all, do not compare anything because nothing is easy.Well, I am not a lucky guy. I am forced to study other course than music for college (most music student parental problems). Just because the music school in Puchong do not have much violin teacher, I was asked to help and they trained me. Teaching is fun and can be very serious, I found my own reason to be a music teacher forever but there is always pros and cons. Playing in an orchestra is a different experience. And yes, posting on the forum is the time where I can relax for a bit. So icyfawkes, drop your job. Study music and start to enjoy musician life. |

QUOTE(icyfawkes @ Oct 15 2008, 04:34 PM) how i wish i could,im the only guy in the family and the highest earner...so im supposed to support my family I know a lot of full time office workers who work as a music teacher at night. Their work from 9AM to 5PM. 6PM will be start teaching until 9PM.there are also alot factors that binds me to my current work,i do really wish in the future i could change job to be a musician 3 hours work, 6 students. Each student will get about RM60 (just grade 1 student), so RM60 x 6 = RM360 monthly. 4 days in a month, one day in a week. So, you do math for the rest of it. Added on October 15, 2008, 4:41 pm QUOTE(yunnie @ Oct 15 2008, 04:39 PM) For music teacher, as I have post. For performance, each MPO concert for every violinist will get around RM1, 000 at least for a night. For those parents who said music is futureless are really judging the book by it's cover. This post has been edited by Paramore: Oct 15 2008, 04:41 PM |

QUOTE(yunnie @ Oct 15 2008, 04:45 PM) But of course you have to be frigging good to perform right..? QUOTE(icyfawkes @ Oct 15 2008, 04:47 PM) Basically everywhere wants a certified teacher. If you are not, the school can negotiate with you. Example is I know a grade 3 holder who are teaching only grade 1 students (cannot teach grade 2 unless the teacher go higher grade). So, apply anywhere. The best is to find those desperate music school who needs violin teacher. But if you have never teach before, you must go through a training from their principle first. The only desperate school that needs a violin teacher is Mama Treble Clef at Endah Parade SS2 Petaling Jaya. At my place, actually just got enough violin teacher in Puchong for this year but not the past years. The requirement is the same as I have said. QUOTE(icyfawkes @ Oct 15 2008, 04:59 PM) i would like to start early, but what if a kid ask you this question bout theory or song that you dont know? You will learn how to tackle that problem during training. Well as a teacher, you must do research every now and then. Understanding what an adult and a kid wants. That is why when teaching grade 1 but the teacher is only grade 2 it is unacceptable.i would be like:"sorry kiddo,i dont know"omg...ill suicide Music teachers usually spend time on music library searching for books for these people, the songs and all. That is music analysis. |

QUOTE(yunnie @ Oct 15 2008, 09:52 PM) Hmm.. apparently, my teacher doesn't provide theory in her class. She told me to get a book and do it on my own. So you need another class for theory. And only enquire her whenever I don't understand. Aw man.. And I thought I can have theory with her. From what I heard, there isn't much people interested in violin.. Piano is more likely a first choice. How come a lot of people wants to tutor in violin? In every music school at least there is a violin student, so must have a teacher too at least or backup. Worst is cello and viola, totally got no backup. |

QUOTE(icyfawkes @ Oct 16 2008, 11:02 AM) Quoted for Truth.QUOTE(yunnie @ Oct 16 2008, 12:07 PM) Haha.. Oh yeah I can ask paramore to teach me. ^^ But I need to clarify with my teacher which board I'm doing? Tell me after you have made your decision. ===== empire: I used to critic higher grade musician to play without any paper or book. It is a 50/50 thing, some of them are really retard. But the ones who can read well do have pros in them, they will be freaking good playing in an orchestra or preparing last minute performances. For those who are slow readers, they play more expressive than anyone else. That is my experience but it only apply to most musician. Since this subject is mention, so you guys should understand that a good music teacher does not require a certification. Skill and knowledge matters the most. |
