I don't think there are other species in Pets More Carrefour

Just now I left Pets More Desa Park City. They have one baby Star. Very lonely. Kesian

I'm interested in the yni, but have not read much about it. Guess I'll spend sometime first before making a move. For it's size, is the RM5k reasonable price or overpriced?

Police recovered five sacks filled with tortoises, they said, adding some of them were Star tortoises, which is a rare species.
How rare are they ?? They have being " exported" out of their country by the thousand for so long !! And you can still see hatchlings being offered

Just go to Jalan Pasar - just a few months ago each store can be seen offering them by the tank-ful( few dozen a tank )

QUOTE
These tortoises are first smuggled to Bengal and from there to countries like Indonesia and Malaysia, where they are sold at exorbitant prices.

How exorbitant are the price
Hatchlings fetching RM 50 a pc retail ( less than USD 15)
3inch RM 100 a pc (USD 30 )

Why dont the article mention countries like USA, EU , JAPAN , Taiwan where Indian star are sold at USD 300 or more

QUOTE
The tortoises fetch big money because they are used in the making of some medicines and also because some people in these countries eat them.
So everyone of you in the forum come clean , which one of you guys / gals buy them to eat LOL

My thoughts when reading such articles ( regarding " endangered" wildlife written elsewhere , locally and with motives ) mostly contain makeup bull shit with only a small portion of facts

5 k is very cheap compared these past months

5 k is end 2006 to early 2007 pricing !!!

How do you think these Yni come into our shores ( CB locally or CITES papered export ) after you posted so many articles regarding their " status" back home in Madagascar , you still intend to support this trade by wanting to get one ? ?

I feel bad about these lovely creatures. I feel that we should no create a glut by purchasing so many it will cause their demand to surge. After all the best place for them is their natural habitat. If you want to raise then i think 1 or 2 is enough.

raise one or two? THAT IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTING FACTORS TO EXTINCTION.

if everyone decides to keep one or two without any captive breeding initiatives, the turtles would die in vain without having any successors to their genes.

only serious keepers which keep many turtles of the same species can help in the cause.

natural habitat is just a sorry excuse for prime harvesting ground, period.

Agree with sam and camillenoir, some people think they should be left alone in the wild but its totally wrong. In fact in the wild their numbers are declining fast because of deforestation etc etc.

Something a friend made for the election fever.

once upon a time ago, leaving them alone in the wild does equate to their survival

but now, leaving them alone is no different than being completely ignorant

just an excuse to not do anything

my personal opinion
