if given to me, i would just get 40d, not worth to upgrade to 450d ler...more or less the same thing...except the digic III for the 450d...that's y i buy it over 400d...else 400d would be sufficient for me..
Did some test on live view again...as mention, it does use focus ring on the lens to focus, while pressing another button for the auto focus...does seems to be useful


overall, i am sure its ok to start with a 450d...another plus is that, its using the sd card, which i can use back my existing cards...

well, after shopping around, found this deal from another shop:

bro, the price u get is very very good price...

IMHO ur gonna need at least a protective filter and a bag unless ur already have those. So if u add all the extras ur still gonna reach about 3 k. which is about the standard price
This offer on the other hand sounds pretty decent. maybe can bargain for filter then settle d.

you can get any better deal than that? look at your list. unless something wrong with the camera

I just got to hold a 450D this afternoon. It's light! The screen looks bigger than my 40D. It looks very much like a 400D actually.

Yeah. VERY VERY alike. from the front almost identical except for the curves near the ViewFinder. I almost couldn't tell them apart while glancing through a camera shop just now. they were side to side. had to read the label to realise which is which.
