Why not use a signal booster like the audio/video showroom uses and drive as many display as you want? tongue.gif

glad i bumped into this thread... i'll face similar situation, one decoder, 2 LCDs.... one LCD in living room & one LCD in bedroom (directly behind living room wall).

Anyways, I plan to connect via S-video to AV receiver & HDMI from AV Receiver to LCD for living room. The problem is for Astro connection to bedroom... my contractor already installed a co-axial wire from living to bedroom (through the wall). My question is :

1) can i connect bedroom LCD to living room decoder with this co-axial cable?
2) PQ & AQ with co-axial is good enough or is the wireless RF link better?
3) what's the best solution for this ?

Thanks.

1. yes you can.
2. how long is the cable, surely there would be signal lost, hence i mentioned a signal booster. RF no cable involved. depending on the quality of the transmission.
3. signal splitter and booster.

Current Astro decoder still use old technology, not even RGB connector is use. There is 3 type use in Astro:

1. S-video (better PQ) - must use this is possible. Still need to have RCA for audio.
2. RCA - most common one - I use this one to transfer pict to my room, might change to S-video later.
3. RF (Coax) - avoid to use this if possible. My friend use 20 meter cable, cannot get any signal.

As advise by the expert, if you have a very good AMP/Receiver which have HDMI to connect to LCD-TV, better to connect Astro to AMP first. Most good AMP/receiver will have an option to upscale the Astro quality, before transfer to TV using HDMI.

too bad my old Amp only have RCA....

Hi all

I change my RF modulation (in astro setting) to 28....
Got a slightly less better than at 21 but no eyestrain......
I guess you could probably go lower at 24-25

I thought at first it was only my eyes but my wife got it too so 28 would be acceptable

My coaxial cable runs about 20M. No problem to get the signal.
My father's coaxial cable even longer. Also no problem. smile.gif

Hi,

My setup is ASTRO is next to my HTPC and bedroom TV.
It want to connect to another TV in the living room.

1. I understand that S-VIDEO will provide the best quality Picture.
However i think 60foot S-VIDEO cable is non-existent or if existent, very very expensive.

2. I am wondering if the 20m coaxial is good enough?

3. And if not, is the following setup better?
ASTRO -> TV TUNER -> HTPC -> CAT5 cable -> another HTPC in living room -> Amp -> Living room TV.
Can it stream over CAT5 from one HTPC to another?
This would mean i don't have to buy any new cables.

What do you think?
