Yes, you can but s-video doesn't carry sound though.

Yes , I've tested and it works

If you want to carry audio , get the spliter , that splits or alternatively use Coax cable (carries both audio and video)

ASTRO -> TV TUNER -> HTPC -> CAT5 cable -> another HTPC in living room -> Amp -> Living room TV.
Can it stream over CAT5 from one HTPC to another?
This would mean i don't have to buy any new cables.

Of course can, since your video when going into a HTPC will be digitized. All you need is a streaming server of sorts. With the right software and a IR blaster you can even setup the HTPC in the bedroom to record programs then call it up on demand using HTPC in living room.

I haven't see myself max connector but I guess no different between other model. So the connection suppose to be the same as we discuss here.

Astro using old legacy connector type.

u can change channel & switch off decoder(control the decoder) from ur room without going to the place where the decoder located.

yes u can find this device(AV Link) at jalan pasar. price is RM300.

It's also sold at Seng Heng. The problem with this device is it is transmitted on the same band as wifi so expect some interference if you have wifi at home.

Use wired type, cost less than 100 and no interferences. But longer cable will degrade the video quality.

Wow..it has been like so long tongue.gif Anyway, i bought this device called AV Link from Jalan Pasar , RM 30 ++ only. Its connected using those old arial cable and its not clear when connected to the lcd tv upstairs sweat.gif The cable is around 10 metres long and could this be the cause of it being blur ( not those pixelated blur, its more to the one u experience during the older days sweat.gif ) One more thing, is there any other devices that allow me to connect to 3 or more tv's ? Thx

PS : RM 300 sounds quite good if it can give a good quality image rolleyes.gif Where is this device available ? Thx

If only use 10 meters now, change to RCA, should be OK. Right now I use 20 meters 3 pair RCA, work fine with LCD.

Wireless is better is you cannot lay the cable nicely and the location is to far to use cable. Or if you have extra money can spent.

If your cable too long, you can reduce the modulation channel in Astro setting menu to improve the transmission. You will have to re-scan the channel on your tv upstair later on.

Is it under the manual configuration menu? Will reducing cause a drop in the image quality for the tv downstairs? Anyway..i cant get into that menu. Lost my astro password. May i know whats the default astro pin code? Thx

PS: I would love to use the wireless one . However, does it have any effect on the WIFI connection in my house?

Try 0000 or 1234. Don't try to many times, your astro will 'lock' temporarily, not sure how long and still can use or not that time.

Or can call astro to reset for you. Just mention to them you forgot it and need to lock some channel.

I have one Astro decoder in my parent's room and the Astro can be connected by four TV (my granny room, parents room, the family area and downstairs). No wireless stuff though, everything just wall-plugged? No add-on peripheral or such.

I check the back of my Astro MAX, you have a few options to split the signals :-

Video :

- S-Video

- composite video ( yellow RCA, analog signal )

Audio :

- SPDIF (Sony Philips Digital InterFace) Orange RCA, stereo, digital signa,l http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S/PDIF

- TOSLink ( digital optical audio ) square connectors, digital signal, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOSLINK

- composite audio ( white RCA, analog signal )
- composite audio ( red RCA, analog signal )

I m currently using video ( S-video, better picture quality ) and composite audio ( white & red RCA ) into my TV.

I am also planning to split a second signal into my planned htpc.

Hope this helps

I split my astro to my tv directly and into my HTPC with a Hauppauge WinTV + IR Blaster so that I can switch the channels / schedule recording .. The Media Center Edition can be program to send IR signal to switch channels on the Astro decoder..
